Well, amongst the many unofficial options like Coors Canyon, my mom's backyard, and the rock piles - there are a few *official* options, such as The Fairgrounds and The Elks Lodge. I recently attended a high school reunion at the Elks Lodge. Now, despite being a resident of Blythe for many years, I never had the luxury of being invited to an event so fancy that it'd be at the Elks Lodge. I know you think that sentence is laced with sarcasm, but I promise you - it's not. It's a true statement. The only parties I attended were ones I threw (in the aforementioned mom's backyard) and ones at, well, Coors Canyon. Turns out I was missing out, big time. The Elks Lodge is a surprisingly decent to above decent place to throw a shindig in good ol' B-Town. I think they've raised their prices for rental quite a bit over the past couple of years, and you've gotta use their bar - but with ice cold beers at $4 a pop (for a cash bar), it ain't too shabby at all. One could do worse as far as Blythe parties go.

How did I never know about this…read more.. The road is super easy, but you do have to walk a little (not far) as they have the road lined with cable on both sides. This place was awesome. I wad the only one out there and it was simply amazing. Crazy to think that ancient man did that with rocks scraping the earth. If you're in Blythe, stop by for sure, it's worth it. Don't climb over the fence or deface any of it. You can see where it was damaged before it was protected.

When I woke up on Saturday I was excited because I was heading to the Quartzsite QIA Gem & Mineral Pow-Wow to buy mineral specimens for our mineral collection for our geology department at Caltech. I arrived about 10 am and found a good parking spot on the street. One of our Caltech grad students told me about the Pow-Pow so I was hopeful I would find some good samples. With my dog Frankie in tow we ventured into the show. I spent a little over 2 hours walking around the whole show. There was fossils, brand new lapidary machines, opals, cool fossilized Megalodon teeth, hand made knives with blades that were made out of obsidian, turquoise, jade and gold for sale. While I was their I found a great mineral dealer where I bought 12 minerals for our collection. Most of the Yelp Pow-Wow reviews are talking about what they bought at Quartzsite in general not at the Pow-Pow. This years Pow-Wow was only for 5 days Jan 21-25 and next years will be Jan 20 thru 24, 2027. I look forward to coming to next years show.

The menu was basic and simple, but has something for everyone. I got a veggie burger and my husband and two kids got hot dogs. We all enjoyed the meal. The service was very nice and friendly and the two dogs there were very kind to the kids. Clean restrooms. The music, provided by one man live was country like and calming. It feels like a desert experience. We will return if we ever come out this way again. The owner said it's only open from November til April.

It took us quite a while to find it because Yelp showed it further down the road (address now fixed). Once we found it after driving past it several times on Main St we were rewarded with tons of historical information inside and some outside of this partially restored building. The docents were very knowledgeable and ready to talk your ears off about the history of that area of Arizona. Lots of old books and newspaper clippings to read in a couple of the rooms. There is no admission fee but a couple of donation jars and some books for sale to help support the place. We both tossed some money in the jar. It may be small but it is well worth the time to stop by if you are in to history.

It brings back fun memories. Plus the people at the festival are salt of the earth people. I completely love that. Also the vendors were really nice. I got a great burger to eat while I listened. He learned a trade in the service and he always put his hand on his heart when the National Anthem was played. He was 100% patriotic and that's how I was raised. In driving from Sedona to Quartsite last Sunday to spend the night and do a day of shopping, I called the VFW and asked if I could get dinner there. The gruff woman with the smokers voice told me NO(!). I wasn't a member so I couldn't have dinner there. The next afternoon, when leaving, I stopped at a lovely local diner to get a meal for the road. The local newspaper had an ad for the VFW lodge which indicated all were welcome to grab a meal there. I'm confused. Was the woman who answered the phone with the VFW lodge just rude or has policy changed. If all are still welcome then I'm very disappointed in her rude behavior. My dad served proudly and my son-in-law is serving proudly. There is no place for rudeness in treating those who stand and who support our brothers and sisters in the service.
