This is what, when we were teenagers, we called an "old man's bar." Now, I more than qualify for that category so I did not feel the least bit out of place or awkward when I entered at mid-afternoon on a Tuesday. It was a cloudy day outside, yet my eyes still had to adjust to the darkness of the interior when I entered - I guess that is MY aging problem. The room is narrow so that all the tables lining the wall opposite the bar are high two-tops.
There are at least 15 TVs, most of them over the bar, each one tuned to a different channel, and yet I don't think a single one was tuned to a game. But most of the wall decorations were sports related. The piped in music is Country. There were just over a half dozen "older" men sitting at the bar and I was probably at the higher end of the age scale.
There is no draft beer available, but plenty of hard liquor. The closest beer to a dark craft brew was a bottle of Sam Adams Ale ($4.50). While I enjoyed my Sam and downloaded 20 app updates to my phone over the 4G Verizon signal (no wifi is available), I noticed that many of the customers were addressed by the barkeep by their first name, indicating that they were regulars. Some of those who were already there didn't even have to ask for an another drink. The bartender automatically provided it as soon as he saw their glass was empty. And new patrons coming in never needed to even say what they wanted to drink, the barkeep knew exactly what to pour as he greeted them.
There is also no food available in spite of the sign outside stating "Food & Drink." However, the barkeep informed me that they are more than happy to let you bring in food from the restaurant next door - Mama Mia's. I'm surprised that they didn't have one of the menus available to show me, but the regulars probably already know what they like. The barkeep was a friendly enough fellow, checking to see that I was satisfied with my Sam. Who knows? Maybe at a different hour or on a different day the atmosphere and clientele are totally different! After all, the small, and only window at the front of the establishment with the Budweiser sign, is decorated with red and pink hearts for Valentine's Day.
Cheers! I'd give another half-star if I could. read more
