The…read moreBest Western was by far the least sketchy place to stay here, as a lot of the other lodging we looked at were older motels. At least Best Western does have the name behind it. They have one EV plug in here that is free to use but slower for charging. The guy that checked us into the hotel didn't really seem all there. This hotel is dog friendly and we had 2 pooches with us. It seems like they put most of the dogs on the first floor. The lobby had a microwave out there for common use and free coffee was laid out here in the morning. They have a restaurant here called Bishop's Landing that does all meals. As for the room, it was comfortable. It definitely could have been cleaner. There were rogue hairs everywhere in the bathroom, particularly the shower. For example, there were ones under the bathmat that waved hello as the water ran under it. The hotel is located right next to the marina and there are paths that you can take for a scenic stroll at sunset. Not the best stay but for one night, this would probably still be my go to place to stay in Owen Sound.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in & will never stay in a Travelodge again…read more All hotels in Owen Sound are way overpriced-double the price in July & August! This place was $308.95 & was disgusting. Front desk staff were not there on arrival & when she finally showed up, was rude. This place is dirty-huge piles of laundry were stacked in the breakfast area when we arrived late in the evening. The hall smelled musty & room as well. Bedside lamp was broken & other lamp had a shade that was beat up & stained. The lamp was brought to the front desk for a replacement & we were told they didn't think there was another one to replace it-no one ever came with another lamp. None of the plug ins anywhere in the room work-everything was plugged into 2 power bars. Walls were dirty, especially in the bathroom, wallpaper peeling & a few unpatched holes in walls. Small holes in curtains-basically disintegrating. Hairs in tub & on bed sheets. Pillows were flat & uncomfortable. Heater/air conditioner was filthy & had a sign stating it would be shut off during the day & they would come into your room to shut it off even if you had a DND sign on the door. Food or vomit on the carpet beside the bed. TV turned on, but remote was stuck on 1 channel & stuck on loud-unable to change channel or control volume. Breakfast was dismal. Don't stay here!

If you're looking for accommodations in the Owen Sound, Ontario area, or if you're just travelling…read morethrough and need a place to stay, I highly recommend The Highland Manor. I spent four nights there, and I couldn't have asked for a nicer place or a more congenial host. I was in town for a wedding, and after looking at the listings for some of the hotels, including the highly rated Best Western Inn on the Bay, I decided to stay at The Highland Manor. I liked the idea of staying in a home-like setting, with fewer rooms than a hotel and more personalized service. The Inn is historic in architecture and design and the decorations evoke a time period from the past. I stayed in The Moore room, as I was travelling with my cousin and we wanted a room with two beds. The room was immaculate, spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. We were given clean soft fluffy bathroom towels daily, a far cry from hotel towels. I had an opportunity to look in the other rooms after guests had checked out, and they were all beautiful. Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. The food was freshly prepared, depending on when we came down to eat, rather than being pre-cooked and waiting for us at a certain hour. We had seasonal fruit each morning of our stay, and our various breakfasts consisted of items such as pancakes (some of the best I've ever had), baked eggs and French toast. The portions were plentiful. One day, we also had a delicious cheese bread, made specifically for the inn by a local baker. Linda, our host, was personable and friendly and had a wealth of knowledge of the area. She was extremely helpful regarding our needs or questions, and she made a point of asking if we had any special dietary restrictions or allergies, in addition to asking if there was anything we needed during our stay. It was so nice to chat with her. The inn, which is also her personal home, is beautifully appointed with period pieces We enjoyed sitting in the grand parlor/library where the TV is located, as well as the outdoor covered porch. The Highland Manor is located in a nice, quiet residential area. We enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. When we went to the Best Western for wedding activities, we noticed it was in a more industrial area, and while it was located on Georgian Bay, we would not have felt comfortable walking outside the hotel perimeter in the evening. I'm looking forward to my next stay in Owen Sound, and the Highland Manor will be the first place I call.

I am one of those people that, a…read moremotel/hotel room is just a place to rest my head, so I don't go for the most expensive/lavish hotels and usually don't stay at chains. So when this chance to travel came up, I jumped at it and immediately headed to Expedia to find a motel. I chanced upon Travellers as it was offering a deal in its' "New Wing" and I took it. I arrived on Monday, May 30, 2016, earlier than the expected 3pm check in that Expedia kept alerting me to. I had to wait 15 minutes for the desk to finish cleaning a room but that is fine with me, rather a clean room than a dirty one.. especially if it might be my rental next. :) Anyways, she had been having trouble with the credit card machine (it looks like the New Wing isn't the only new thing, as the office and the entire building appeared new) so she asked someone to come out to the lobby and help her. Once we got the credit card straightened out, I was given and RIFD/NFC room card (not a key, but a key card) to my room and given instructions on where to park and where to enter the building at (interior hallways on this wing). The new paint on this wing is grey and the walls an off blue it looks like, with white doors and black numbers, but it still looks respectable. They paint and work is still going on, so there was the smell of fresh paint in the office and the hall. When I got to the room, it was very nicely done for what I would call a budget motel (they advertise the lowest rates in town), with a brand new bathroom, bed, decor and flat screen TV. The ONLY drawback to the room for me, is that I have a CPAP machine (for obstructive sleep apnea) and there was no power supply in the wall near the bed (on either side) and in fact, I had to unplug the table lamp to get an available power supply at all. If you are in Owen Sound and want a nice room at a reasonable rate, I would suggest Travellers Motel. I will add pictures in the next day or so, once I take them.

It's still ~$50 cheaper than the other hotels. So I guess the price point is on par with everything else. It's just surprising how expensive basic rooms are in the area. My first impression coming into the motel wasn't that great. Considering the outside gives you the "kidnap and murder vibe". All jokes aside, I was pleasantly surprised with how clean the room was. There wasn't any weird smells or stains on the sheets. There was even a fridge, microwave and coffee machine. For amenities, there were your typical cheap shampoo and soaps in those plastic packs. The beds and pillows weren't as comfortable but if you're staying here for 1 night you'll have a pretty nice sleep. Otherwise I'd suggest you bring your own pillow and amenities if you're staying for an extended period. In short, it's a nice place for a short stay. I'd definitely recommend this inn for those on a budget.

The other hotels in Owen Sound (Comfort in and Days in) were charging $150 a night for a room. I thought I would just have to settle and pay up but then I stumbled on the Owen Sound Inn while browsing places on-line. It had really good reviews, and had been recently renovated. At like, $70 a night I thought I would give them a shot. I would usually not expect much from a place charging $70 a night but based on the reviews I felt hopeful. It was a really nice place. If you can, ask to get a room in the back, there's a nice forest to look at outside. The place was very clean, new carpets, fresh paint, smelled very nice (almost too nice- like they had something to hide). The rooms were big, one bed was comfortable, the other wasn't as comfortable and was noisy but no big deal. The bathroom was a decent size and very clean. No rust anywhere, the floors were clean, the towels smelled good, etc... The room came with a microwave and bar fridge (but a decent size, bigger than a usual mini fridge), wire-less internet. and a free breakfast. We slept in late every day so I didn't see what the breakfast was but I'm sure it was standard. I mean, it's not the Hilton, but I'd come here again if I ever needed a place to stay in the area.
