My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night recently. The parking light is spacious and well lit at night. We arrived later in the evening but check in was quick and easy. The gentleman at the front desk was very pleasant as well. The inside of the hotel seemed nice and our room was on the ground level not far from the entrance. We were given two key cards for our room and had no issues with them. Upon entering the room we were a little confused as there is no overhead lights. Just lamps and a small light over the sink. The sink was located immediately to your right when we entered the room. I found that to be a lot better than it being crammed into the smaller sized rest rooms, as some hotels do. It was noticeably damp and humid in the room too. We turned on the AC immediately to try to cool the room off. I noticed a couple small black ants on the AC unit and some along the wall by a chair. Thankfully we didn't see anymore after that. There were some stains on the bedspread and the sheets. They didn't seem to be unlaundered though, they had possibly seen better days. The bed was really comfortable though. The flat screen tv was nice and the mini fridge seemed to be working well. The humidity and the dampness in the room was horrible though. It was incredibly difficult to sleep that night. The lady at the front desk who did our check out was very friendly and got us out quickly the next afternoon. For the price this hotel is much better than others that offer less or might not be in as good condition. Maybe in the fall and winter they don't have so many issues with the humidity, but late spring/early summer it is awful. Other than that the staff is friendly and the location seems safe.

Nothing says "attention to detail" like a well-placed notice on the door

Clean rooms, nice beds but an older hotel that still needs some attention. Door to our room scraped the floor do it wouldn't open all the way, and the toilet was loose on the floor - a rocking chair toilet! No breakfast, I'm assuming because of Covid. Horrible coffee.

The rooms are all spacious and nicely appointed. Comfortable beds and a decent shower. Coffee station with mini fridge and a microwave. Work station, Flat screen and ample storage for an extended stay. Device plug ins and usb ports in multiple locations within the room as well. The breakfast is actually better than most. Eggs a few ways, a couple breakfast meats, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, along with a variety of cereals, coffees and juices. The area is clean and organized and there is always staff on hand during that time. There are also a dozen different eateries within a short distance of this hotel that make eating dinner or lunch in the area simple, as most of them are very good. All of the valet team are professional, courteous and timely each went above and beyond for us. Very comfortable accommodations. We stayed in a king room the first time for a weekend and a king suite for the weeks stay. Both are comfortable, the suite's size and separate seating area definitely make it worth the difference if your stay is extended. King bed, very comfortable, quality linens, very quiet soundproofing with high ceilings and heavy drapery with modern minimalist wall decor. The bathrooms in both are nice the suite, another level of comfort. Walk in large shower with a vessel tub within the shower enclosure. This was a special event, and the dinner menu is not quite yet solidified, but I want to a) talk about the delicious food, b) the beauty of the inn, and c) the hospitable and friendly staff at the Inn/Restaurant. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious. I am so looking forward to another trip back to Founder's! I absolutely can't wait to try brunch!

Chosen family- John has been family to the brides side since before she was born. We arrived at 3pm on a cool, fall Saturday in November. The grounds beg to be explored, the history of the house has secrets in her stairwells and rooms. The architecture breathtaking. We waited by the koi pond until it was time to take our seats in the lower garden for the ceremony. Cocktail hour was outside as well and the temperature was dropping. We couldn't wait to get inside for dinner. Well- it wasn't much warmer indoors. The dining area was split between two rooms, one of which was a sun room- all glass doors around the room. The interior room had a giant fireplace blazing in the center. We sat in the outer room- my shawl stayed on throughout dinner. I wore fleece leggings under my gown because I am always cold, but even that wasn't enough. The staff! They wowed me- from escorting guest to the powder rooms (clear on the other side of the house), to the bartenders making drinks the whole night, to the servers working our side of the dining room. Every member of the staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Amanda and Katherine worked the bar & were fantastic! And the servers I encountered all hustled while helping the guests- Christian, Dylan & Kelton were on our dining room team. Special shout out to all of them, they made a great impression. Food- fresh salad and warm dinner rolls were set down first. Wine glasses filled & water glass too. John and I both opted for steak as our main- cooked perfectly and I know that's not easy when catering an event. The whipped potatoes and green beans perfection. The table were set beautifully. The dance floor was in the pool room, the put the floor down right over it! Which was comical because of the bounce in the floors once the dancing began. Being cold the whole time, I couldn't wait for the dj to turn it up. They had the doors open for the dance floor room leading out to the lower gardens where the nuptials were earlier. At this point the sun had set and all of the guest were cold. That was my only complaint- we needed heat for cocktail hour and definitely heat for dinner. Once the dancing began, I warmed up quickly & even had to take 10 outside, without my shawl, to cool down! The festivities were to go on till 10:30pm, but some of us more seasoned guests departed before that. I really hope to come back and explore the estate in the future.

Even though I always check in digitally, I like to have a physical key, and they had it ready with no hassle. There was no acknowledgment of my Hilton Gold status, but that's not a big deal. What stood out more was that nothing was mentioned about hotel amenities--no information about breakfast or dinner, no mention of the bar (which I could clearly see), and not even a quick note on which direction the elevators were, though that part was easy enough to figure out. Still, it's a basic courtesy that sets the tone for the stay. The property looks pretty good overall. The hallways were clean and had some character. The room has a little foyer area with an ironing board, iron, shelving, drawers, and a luggage rack. The bathroom is to the right--clean, with a hair dryer, bar soap, extra toilet paper, decent-sized towels, and towel racks on both the door and wall. There's even a night light built into the bathroom outlet that you can toggle, which was a nice touch. Across from the bathroom is a coffee/microwave/fridge station. The Keurig coffee maker came with two Maxwell House house blend pods, one decaf (not Maxwell House), and one generic tea pod. There were also sugar packs, some fake creamer, and a plastic stir stick. The coffee maker wasn't filthy, but it had visible coffee residue in the brew chamber and around the needle area. The tray it sat on had a little debris, and the microwave had stuck-on food on the tray and interior walls--not freshly cleaned. Room lighting is well thought out, with various overhead and lamp sources, including USB ports at the desk and between the beds. The built-in shelving under the TV was a nice touch for organizing things, and I liked the little table and soft chair in the corner. Unfortunately, cleanliness fell short in high places. Thick dust had built up on the top edges of picture frames over the bed and desk, on the bathroom picture, and above the closet area. You could rake it into piles--clearly untouched for many months. The most concerning issue was the bathroom ceiling. Overnight, something degraded or broke loose above the tub--a large circular stain or repair area started shedding debris into the tub. I reported it to the front desk, who were apologetic and professional. Since I was checking out the next day, I declined maintenance but asked them to flag the room before re-renting it. Another small maintenance note--the bottom edge of the bathroom door shows clear signs of moisture damage. They might consider installing one of those protective slide-on door bottoms to prolong the door's life and appearance. Despite these issues, the overall room cleanliness was decent. The bathroom corners were clean, floors swept and mopped--clearly the room gets regular maintenance. The dust above the 5 1/2-foot level is the biggest oversight. There is a bar and restaurant area downstairs, but I didn't try anything. I believe there's a dinner setup of some kind, but it's unclear--no one told me, and the hotel website is frustratingly unhelpful. It doesn't mention food offerings or amenities accurately, and the Wi-Fi splash page should really be updated to reflect what's available. There wasn't even any information in the room about food or bar offerings--just a vague "buffet" sign downstairs with a price. Guests should be informed at check-in about breakfast, dinner, and other amenities, especially when they're not listed online or easily found in the room. At checkout, the front desk was once again super friendly and professional. As it happened, the maintenance man was standing nearby, so I brought up my earlier request about the issue in the bathroom. Turns out there was no record of it--he'd checked the log that morning and found nothing, and the front desk agent couldn't find anything either. I explained that the night before, I had reported it to the young man at the desk, who took out a piece of paper and started writing it down--but apparently the ball got dropped somewhere. On the plus side, they do offer complimentary coffee in the lobby, which is always appreciated. Their snack and beverage area is well-stocked with a wide selection, including some healthier options--refreshing to see. They also have a full bar and a food area, but I still have no idea what food they actually serve. It seems like they're not really promoting their food offerings at all.
