The rooms and facilities are clean, modern, and well maintained. Special pluses for a big bathroom with a non-slip floor and lots of grab bars everywhere. Room and bed are comfortable and it is not very expensive compared with the hotels we are used to. Lots of plugs and electronics hook ups. There is the usual small fridge, microwave, tv and coffee maker. There is an iron and ironing board. The usual complaints, no elevators, only one chair in each room, skimpy on soap, tp, etc. As is getting more common, your room is not picked up every day and if you want something, you have to go to the front desk. The one big complaint is that there is no closet, no hangers, and only two hooks for your clothes. What is with that? We asked for hangers at the desk and they went into panic mode and stole 2 from the laundry room. They need at least one comfortable chair. The desk chair they provide is not very comfortable. We had to drag the shower chair out of the bathroom and put 2 pillows on it. Stay away from the rooms with a "hot tub" unless you really plan to use it. It takes space away from the bathroom and costs a lot more. Skip the hotel breakfast unless you are really pressed for time. There is a Huddle House right across the Interstate, and for a little more drive (about 25 minutes) go to Bob Evans.

No problem my card was ran I paid and upon arrival checked in. Reception area was the first clue upon checking in I was told I did not have a reseevasion. So I presented my email receipt. Hang on let me check again. Ok here ya go. So I asked if I could get 2 forks I had purchased 2 salads and there was no silverware. I was told, the owners said we are bit to give out anything. OK whatever I'll go to the dollar store. So we get into the room tired from the drive decide to get into the hot tub. With the hot tub doesn't work the plug is broken. The motor doesn't work. So off to the front desk and she said oh yeah the hot tub doesn't work. So we're like that's why we got the room so we're gonna go ahead and check out and find another place. And she said well I'm sorry I already checked in, so we're not gonna give you a refund. And I said so you're gonna force us to stay here? She said you already checked in. I demanded a manager. Owner was called. During this process she thru the F bomb and this only inflamed this situation. Long story short refund was said to be issued, mmmmmm we shall see. So we crossed the highway and stayed at Surestay! Beautiful reception area with a tv, fruit bowl, coffee maker, hot chocolate and treats for children. There is a nice swimming pool. The staff are very attentive and courteous.

The free hot breakfast was cheese omelets that taste like water with cheddar, and turkey sausage patties. Very minimal and low class for a Hampton Inn. Granted that Ashland, Ky. Is not a popular tourist town with lots of sites and things, or even hotels to draw anyone. This hotel had mostly out of town contractors and construction workers, and weary travelers that pulled off the highway to stay somewhere. It has a Walmart right next to it, and an old broken down long since closed car wash on the other side of it. It's on the outskirts from downtown Ashland, right off I-64. I have stayed at some very nice Hampton Inns over the years, and I will still consider them in the future, but this is an old one that is in need of a complete renovation, but based on where it is, it probably would not be beneficial to spend the money doing it.

Added disadvantage was there is no elevator. It's only two stories but when you have luggage that's a huge inconvenience. We were told the entire first level was full so my almost 73 year old mother had to go up two flights of stairs. I happened to be with her when she checked in so I carried her luggage along with mine. Unfortunately there's not much to choose from and the Super 8 was booked. This place is a health hazard.

Had I not had the safety catch slipped over, they would have succeeded. It was terrifying, and I did not sleep the rest of the night. I later discovered the employee has a varied criminal history - with an arrest as recent as 10/03/2025. To make matters worse, despite multiple attempts at contact, the hotel has refused to deal with the issue (aside from a $25 credit to my bill - with no conversation beforehand). I've contacted Best Western Corporate. They continue to give the hotel time to respond. So after two weeks of trying to make sure this is handled and does not happen to anybody else, I thought I could at least do my part to spread the word to other travelers that Best Western does not consider customer safety a concern, let alone a priority. (Tried to leave a no star review, but had to at least give it a one.)

Plenty of parking can accommodate buses. From US Route 60, it is tricky to get to even though it is on the highway. The hotel is a steep driveway from the road. The really big sign with the name is not illuminated and the road sign (tiny) is hard to see when approaching from the west (an eastern approach is only marginally better). Even if using the east Mall Road exit from I-64, it is not obvious where the entrance is. There is a bar and restaurant which are seat yourself affairs. The bar is warm and inviting. The limited menu, also available at the bar, includes an incredible sandwich: Salmon BLT with Bacon. Good grief this little gem is great. It is served on buttered and lightly grilled Focaccia bread. The salmon was firm and tasty with a light creamy sauce. Added flavor was provided by several substantial pieces of center cut bacon. There was also lettuce and tomato. It comes with a side. Skip the fries and go with the in-house made potato chips! Excellent! The bar maybe small but well stocked. There were two locally made micro brews on tap.

I think that is cool that the owner kept the original (I would have never known because it was probably like this prior to me being born). When I made a reservation, it was efficient and so no issues there and the same with check in. I then had to go up the elevator and found the first issue, no inspection certificate. Are these not supposed to be posted for the public to view? I see them in all elevators. The room is nice and spacious with the king bed. They have teas, decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee that I found in the room (good selection). The cable they have is OUTSTANDING. They have 140 channels, complete with Travel and Discovery Family. Travel is great for Paranormal Caught on Camera and Ghost Adventures. On Discovery Family, I have found a show called My Cat From Hell. It is so hard find hotels that have Travel and Discovery Family was totally unknown to me since My Cat From Hell was on Discovery in the mornings. The breakfast was okay: baked goods, biscuits, gravy, bacon, eggs (I think real because they have the yolk as well as the egg whites), and hash rounds. They also have apples as well. Compared to other hotels I have been to in Kentucky, this hotel would rank above ones that just have packaged baked goods (and that is all those hotels offer for breakfast) and below ones that have choices of two meats (sausage patties: sometimes I have seen turkey and pork, bacon, etc.). I have yet to see a hotel that serves cold cut ham (but I guess that is only in Europe, one way to make your hotel look upscale..wink wink). One definitely will not feel full unless they bulk up on carbs (which I tend to like protein more than carbs to feel full). One may not feel full on this kind of breakfast.
