I wish they had a mini fridge you could actually use instead of a minibar, there was nowhere to fit in leftovers when we went out to dinner. It is super nice and convenient that they have a concierge to help you with tourism ideas and reservations, but the line can get so long you might have to wait a very long time for your turn to even talk to them. The staff at the desk was also very helpful with suggestions on places, and I got some great ideas of what to do from them, Benoit being a rockstar for recommendations! It's a steep driveway up to the entrance which can be challenging for accessibility and for attempting to order Uber/Lyft. We had a few never find us despite being on the street below. The shower had absolutely no pressure, and the first night had no hot water. By the second night we had a trickle of warm water and just sufficed with that. I thought that kind of water pressure was maybe just a Canadian thing, but as I moved on in my travels no other showers had that problem. Overall, we were well taken care of and had a great experience.

Disappointing stay for a premium hotel…read more The feather pillows were too bulky and uncomfortable, and we could not sleep well. The hotel's pillow menu listed memory foam pillows, but after I requested one from the front desk, it was never delivered. Housekeeping failed to refill the tissue box for two days, the refrigerator had an unknown liquid leak that made all beverages sticky, and the shower hot water took about three minutes to come through. Valet parking was also unavailable, even though it was shown when I booked. After I complained, the manager, Eric, "generously" waived about $15 per day in taxes/fees on my rooms. Given the number of issues, this felt like a very minimal service recovery. Overall, not the standard I expected from Sofitel.

While the rooms are very small, the hotel is stunning and feels very decedent otherwise. It was cold with a few inches of snow and we had a snow blizzard on one of the days. However, the weather was beautiful because the sun came back right after. The hotel is adjacent to another Marriott hotel, the Residence Inn. It's funny that the two hotels are connected like a square box. So we walked to our room, the last Courtyard's room on the floor. We could keep walking if we wanted, but the next room was the Residence Inn. The only difference is the outside light for each Courtyard and the Residence Inn's room. If we keep walking past our room and use the other elevator, we will take the elevator down to the lobby of the Residence Inn. OK, enough with the floor plan. This architectural speech makes me sound so smart! Only sound, don't worry, I'm not smart. My parents thought I was smart once, then I don't know what happened LOL! The room was very nice and clean. The carpet looked old but clean. The room was fully equipped with a microwave, a small fridge, and a safe. The hotel has an indoor pool that accommodates guests from the Courtyard and the Residence Inn, but it's never crowded, and almost no one uses it. Also, we had a chance to use the sauna. Avi from the Front Office was nice enough to show us how to get to the swimming pool because it was hidden on the mezzanine floor. We dined at the hotel a few times because the food was great. They had a nice avocado and eggs, steaks, wings, etc. We enjoyed the night at the lobby and talked to the staff members when they were not busy. They're so lovely. The woman at the Front Desk was very sweet, Zayeda? The coffee maker at the lobby was tricky at first. Hubby and I tried to make coffee and saw that it kept charging, but no coffee. The night manager, Michael, explained that we don't have to worry because the charges would disappear if we didn't get coffee until we pressed the last button "make my coffee." There are a lot of steps, so you may think you finish after you pay, but no, keep going. He was right lol! Who invented this crazy machine ha! We need to talk! We had a great time staying here and will stay here again if we return to Montreal. The location is great and the price is affordable. Highly Recommended!

The Business Centre is functional with communal tables and 2 individual work stations with computers. The room I stayed in was quite spacious and well layout. The room size was more than adequate and the overhead shower was heaven; we really enjoyed the bathroom setup and ease of finding light switches and outlets, and the fridge and TV helped us settle in a little more during down time and post-meal. There was a nice but slightly-obstructed courtyard view, for privacy purposes, that encouraged you to find new ways to enter the stone walking path that weaves throughout the pond and garden area. We had breakfast (not usually included) one morning and the buffet was the way to go. Valet parking and elevators directly to the tenth floor lobby made things easier than most major city hotel stays, and staff at the front desk were extremely accommodating and simplified things for a quick check-in and any needs during our stay (convenience bar has a quality variety of drinks, snacks and sandwiches). What impressed us the most was the rooftop terrace featuring a pool, two hot tubs, a sauna and bar (drinks, apps and entrees available throughout their lengthy pool hours) but also many large trees. I didn't ask about their root structure or how they vaulted them up ten floors, but it's neat and totally sets the stage for a resort-style vibe atop an iconic city highrise.

If I attract the cost of the rental car based on what it would have cost me to rent for the same length of time directly, the hotel stay was a screaming deal. However I sort of wonder if these customers get the rooms that are more run down because I definitely didn't feel the area of the hotel that I was in was in the best state of repair. Just walking down the hall towards the room you could see the woodwork was banged up and everything just seemed a little run down. Same thing once we got to the room. There was some discoloration in the caulk in the bathroom shower, the floor of which was a little slippery and required a towel to be laid down on the shower floor for traction. The location of the shower head in relation to the shower door resulted in water coming out onto the bathroom floor no matter how hard you try to avoid it and you could see the impact of this over time. The room had a funky smell to it and every time I was in the room my sinuses went crazy, the one night I slept with an n95. The refrigerator on my previous day wasn't very cold at all but this time it was so cold that my energy drink was slush the next morning and so I was very happy with that. The TV as far as I could see only work if you hook it to your telephone and stream your own video, or log on to YouTube as a guest. The safe is nice put your passport and other valuables and is very simple to figure out. There was a clock radio that provided a night light but unfortunately it circulated through all colors which I found kind of annoying at night. A lot of these devices have a setting where you can just choose one color and have it steady instead of circulating and messing with your sleep but there was no instructions. I had to leave it on so my traveling partner would have a night light, if that's an issue for you bring a sleep mask. We had a nice view of the garden from our room. I was walking by some other rooms when the door was open one day and I could see that they just had a view of concrete building across the street so we locked out on that. The wing of the hotel we were in and the room itself have dark carpeting and dark walls and so it can be very hard to see. Traveling with a visually impaired family member this was definitely a problem and something to keep in mind if you decide to book here. In fact there is a set of steps going down to where our room was and the lighting is poor. Even though the steps aren't steep my mom almost fell due to the poor lighting. I feel like they could easily install some lights along the edges of the step, or paint the edge of the step bright yellow. I actually told them at the front desk about this and the gentleman that I talked to indicated me that he just didn't care. It could be lack of training but I definitely didn't hear "oh I'm so sorry to hear that", or "I'll let someone know to get eyes on that" etc. Honestly! And then of course absolutely no sympathy for the funky smell in the room. I later heard from one of the staff that someone who actually fell on those steps the day before so it's not just us. The parking is a little expensive and you only get one in and out per day but if you're coming from states remember it's in Canadian dollars. We were supposed to have two free drinks from The Kube restaurant included in our package but every time we walked past that restaurant we could smell a strong fragrance and so we were not tempted to eat in the restaurant one bit. The first night walked by there we thought it was someone with perfume but it was consistent every night and then we realized it must be some sort of air freshener for the restaurant? It was just weird. Everyone else we encountered in the hotel were extremely kind and helpful, five stars for all of them! Perhaps the one person I talked to at the front desk that one evening should take lessons from the maintenance personnel, the doorman or the housekeeper.

As it turned out the schools were on break and we saw many groups going into the Cathedral. We found a perfect little shop that we got our room supplies at and went there twice to stock up. I'm not one to buy the offerings they had in the room. I was surprised that there were 2 bottles of wine, nuts and other snacks. The room was overlooking the street and like I mentioned the area was hopping well into the night but we didn't mind the noise stopped around 11 p.m. We then realized what a great location this was and wandered around the neighborhood endlessly. For most of the trip we walked and didn't use many Ubers, and we got a rental car for the trip. The room itself was very nice and clean but the maids needed to be more attentive with the garbage removal. I always try to connect with the housekeepers when I stay at a property and tip them right off the bat and let them know my room number, this usually helps a great deal with the level of service provided. But the garbage started to pile up so I emptied it myself.

The view is overlooking a service road and highway, nothing interesting. Wifi requires an access code which is on the sleeve of your room key, however the network security is open. As it is a building standing by itself, I don't understand why the access code is required, or at least put a password so that WiFi usage is encrypted. COVID breakfast consisted of a blueberry muffin, Oikos yogurt, and orange juice box, overall rather disappointing of a breakfast. It would have been nice if there was a large water dispenser in the lobby, since it is difficult to fill water bottles in the bathroom sink. There is a luggage scale available in the lobby. As far as I can tell, the hotel is no longer used as a quarantine hotel, so it would seem like those reviews no longer apply.
