Even before this review, I've already recommended Acker to friends who are thinking about building and/or who asked about my building experience. My review will be lengthy, so I will divide it into sections. BUILDING EXPERIENCE: Our experience with Acker Builders began in summer 2014. My husband and I went to the Madison Parade of Homes at Kilkenny Farms and toured Acker Builders' parade home as well as several other builders' parade homes. After the parade, I sent an email inquiry to Acker Builders. Jenny Acker was very thorough in her response, and we set up a meeting. She was also very professional and detailed during our initial in-person consultation, and we were impressed, so we moved forward! Jenny and all of the staff at Acker Builders were wonderful during the building process. If we had questions, concerns, changes, or just some thoughts/brainstorming, we were able to very easily contact someone at Acker Builders and get an answer quickly. The "door was always open" when it came to contacting Acker Builders. I actually felt like my husband and I were the one and only clients of Acker Builders; we knew this was not the case -- they just treat clients extremely well! We worked with Acker Builders' interior designer Jennie Herbrand with our selections for exterior stone, garage door styles, cabinets and counters, flooring and carpeting, lighting fixtures, and the list goes on. Jennie was full of suggestions and information, and we now have an incredibly beautiful home with transitional decor, thanks to her! POST-BUILDING EXPERIENCE: Acker Builders does not "disappear" after the home is finished. During our first week at home, for example, we noticed some water on the floor by our washing machine on a Thursday night. Friday morning at 7:00 a.m., Joey was at our house, ready to fix the problem. The open communication is still there with Acker Builders even after the client moves in and the home is finished. "WORD ON THE STREET": At our initial meeting, Acker Builders gave us a list of references with about 10-12 homeowners. Instead of contacting those references, we drove around various neighborhoods where we knew Acker Builders had built homes. We found people walking their dogs or doing yardwork and struck up conversations with them about builders in/around the Waunakee area. Out of all of these homeowners/complete strangers we talked to about their homes and/or what they knew about local builders, every single one of them had positive things to say about Acker Builders. SUMMARY: As stated earlier, throughout the whole process, we've had a great experience with Acker Builders. Acker Builders is really on the ball and have their ducks in a row. Despite being from the area, I took a 35-year hiatus and was not familiar with Willow RIdge Design Build. Little by little I was won over with the progress and outcome of my new home. I love this place! Great workmanship, a great location, and Molli and Matt are friendly and easy to work with. I did experience a few challenges along the way. As a result, I have a small bit of unsolicited advice: When you select something that you like in the way of fixtures, tile, etc., you may want to order those items right away. By the time some things were ready to be installed, a few of my selections had been discontinued. While Willow RIdge has vendors it works with, don't be afraid to expand your choices. I think that Molli and Matt can get you about anything you want despite the source. I think it's a question worth asking. Here are some comments about Classic's results/performance in several key areas: Quality: This may be where Classic made the greatest impression with us. Brian and the entire team set very high standards for quality, and it shows in their results. This includes high quality materials and craftsmanship, and valuable consultation with decisions. On numerous occasions, they helped steer us towards great style and other decisions that will ensure our long term satisfaction. We regularly receive compliments from friends and family about our home, and Classic deserves a lot of the credit. Communication: We had a true sense of partnership with Classic, and they did a great job keeping us updated along the way. Like many people in our situation, we were nervous and had lots of questions. Classic was responsive and consistently put our minds at ease. Cost/Budget: The process of putting together bids and cost estimates was very easy, and Classic provided accuracy and transparency throughout. The final cost was exactly what we expected, and it was less than the initial bids we had received from other builders. Schedule: Classic did a great job adhering to the planned schedule (which they shared with us along the way), and our home was completed in less than 4 months. Not only that, but we needed a place to live during construction (our previous house sold quicker than expected), and Classic provided us with a flexible arrangement at one of their rental properties. Standing Behind Their Work: In any construction project project, there will be things that didn't quite go as planned or that need follow-up work. A good measure of a service provider is how they handle these occurrences. We had a couple minor things (quality of work from a couple of the sub-contractors) that needed attention and Brian took care of everything quickly and at no extra cost. All in all, we were (and still are) extremely satisfied with our decision to have Classic build our home. We would definitely build with them again, and recommend them to anyone we know who is thinking about building a new home.

We built a Classic Custom Homes (CCH) house in the Lake Wisconsin area that was started in the fall…read moreof 2016 and finished in early 2017. We actually live in Maryland, and went back-and-forth to Wisconsin during the design and building of our home. We selected CCH after due diligence involving the opinions of local real estate agents, looking at an in-progress CCH home and asking questions of the future owners, attending the Madison area Parade of Homes, and checking out a completed spec home with Jennie (the builder's wife) in the Kilkenny Farms development just outside of Waunakee. Jennie really helped us decide on CCH, as she just seemed confident, knowledgeable, and above all, credible. The design process went well, as Brandon was both talented and easy to work with. Building a home is never stress-free, and this house was no exception. 2016 was the wettest year in Wisconsin history, and so the job site was extremely muddy. This made everything more difficult, starting with the ground and driveway being too soft for a cement truck to drive on. With the cement truck having to stay on the main road, cement for the foundation was delivered via "pump" system, which delivers cement via a series of long pipes. The "pump" system was a cost overrun, but given the operating environment, it was unavoidable. When the home was completed, it was not difficult to have the few "punch list" items corrected. Our completed house is everything we had hoped for: beautiful, well-made, and energy-efficient. We still live in Maryland, but plan to move to Wisconsin soon. We were away this past winter, and when we got to our CCH house this summer for the first time in about 8-9 months, we had a wet basement. Thus was likely due to a particularly brutal winter, with heavy snow and then a sudden thaw, and compounded by our not being here to keep snow away from the house. With our insurance company ruling that this was caused by "ground water", our claim was dismissed. However, Bryan of CCH has helped out a lot, first sending out a crew to remove wet carpeting, drywall, and trim, and then scheduling a crew for final remediation. Since our house was completed over two years ago, and we were absent for the entire winter, we are more than grateful for the assistance of CCH. Bryan can be blunt, it is true, but in my view he is also honest and helpful. We are at an age where we may never build another house, but if we do, it will be with Classic Custom Homes. Without reservation, I recommend this builder to anyone.

Liked Perry (Heiser) from the start--he helped make my vision a reality (I had a couple non-typical requests). My choice of Heiser was reinforced by the people in building permits and my designer who all said good things about the quality of his and his crew's work over the years.
