Had a chance to stay here during the 4th of July weekend this year. Nestled near many Sequoia groves of the Sequoia National Forest, but outside the National Park boundaries, there are many places to explore around here. In addition to the nearby Sequoia groves, there are places like Dome Rock (the one place with cell reception in the area), Nobe Young Falls, Trail of 100 Giants, Needles Lookout, etc. It's also not too far from the Kern River. Being at high elevation, it's going to be colder than some of the other campgrounds in the National Forest. The camp host was so welcoming, he took me on a personal tour of the campground on his cart and offered other vacant sites if I didn't like mine. I stuck with the site I booked, but maybe I should've taken up on his offer because I ended up having really loud and talkative neighbors, haha. There are several trails to explore within and also a little creek that you can dip your feet in to cool off. There's also a little "village" called Ponderosa nearby that might be worth checking out, if you are looking for a store. read more

Quaking Aspen Cabin was the perfect weekend getaway and honestly even better than we expected. The cabin was very clean, cozy, and comfortable. No bugs and no bears, which made it extra relaxing. Visited here in Oct during a long weekend and it was the perfect way to disconnect and recharge. The campsites are clean and the host Tim is the best! He's so friendly and talks to everyone and sells firewood by the bundle. Bring cash if you want to get some. Definitely fuel up and get your supplies before hand -- there aren't any grocery stores or gas stations nearby. Last place to fuel up is in Springville. Pro Tip: make sure to get your campfire permit and print it out beforehand read more

The camp host Tim went above and beyond in helping us select the best site, offering local tips and mapping out directions to a few places we never would've known about. This Labor Day weekend was insanely hot. The temps coming from Orange County was no less than 105 and up to 118 driving to the campsite. We were very worried about the temps, but miraculously, just 5-10 mins before we arrived to the campsite, the temp dropped almost 5-10 degrees! Very pleasantly surprised. We were also surprised by the amount of greenery around the campsite, despite seeing a whole lot of yellow and burned tree trunks almost all the way up the mountain. We had group site B, which is nice and spacious. We were charged $8 extra per day per car, over 4 cars. We had access to 3 bathrooms and each had running water outside of them where we could wash our dishes and ourselves (no showers). The vault toilets did have a lot of flies and bees during the day, but that was to be expected. Group site A had to walk through our site which wasn't ideal, but not a deal breaker. We visited the rock slides (Upper and Lower Coffee Camp) about 45 mins down the mountain (very, very windy road). Very crowded and limited parking, but we were able to make it work. Nice place to cool down. There was a supply store on the way where we could buy fishing supplies, food, medicine and there is a restaurant there as well, but we did not eat there. The people were nice and there is wifi there is you need it. Nobody had cell service at the camp site across most of the providers, Verizon included. Fishing at the rock slides didn't work since there were so many people. We ended up near Camp Nelson / Coy Flatt, in Belknap Creek which was nice but no fish to be seen. We couldn't find any decent fishing spots near the campground at all. The other camps didn't have any luck either. read more

Stayed at Quaking Aspen in June 2023 for a few nights at a tent campsite. The campground is run by a concessionaire for the NFS. I did not see a camp host the entire time we were there. It is tucked in off of the Western Divide Hwy in Sequoia National Forest. The campground has a single ring of family campsites and 2 large group campsites across the meadow. There are several sites that have yurts which can be reserved/ rented for your stay. These sites had bear lockers. The more primitive site did not have a bear locker. That was disappointing. An adjacent campsite was instructed to put food in your car at night and activate your car alarm if a bear comes around. Not ideal in my opinion. The primitive site have a fire ring and picnic table. For site 09, the fire ring was in bad shape and the picnic was bent down on both sides. There are vault toilets and water spigots around the campground. Toilets were clean and stocked. Since the camp host was nonexistent, we went to the Ponderosa general store to get firewood. Unfortunately, it burned down recently. Ended up getting firewood at the campground next to the Trail of 100 giants and foraging in the forest. Plenty of hiking in the area. Overall, decent campground with some shortcomings. read more

Quaking Aspen is a super nice campground. It is kept really clean and is great for families. We got spot 8 which also had a yurt that comfortably slept our family at four. There is potable water near every site and plenty of pit toilets. We chose the spot due to its proximity to the Ponderosa General Store. Unfortunately, and very sad to report, the store burned down in February. We were counting on the store for some provisions. Luckily, the camp host had firewood and ice on the weekends. The campground is wooded but all of the hikes surrounding have burned down in recent years. We were here on a really hot day and we found a little swimming hole about a mile and a half down the road on the left near another camp road. It was exactly what we needed to cool off on a hot day. read more

A review for the anxious camper (like myself): First of all, this is a great campsite. I went June 27-29, 2022, and honestly, there was nothing to complain about. Everyone was nice, my neighbors were quiet, the place was in a beautiful area, and I got to see some Giant Sequoias just a quick drive away! I stayed at campsite #15 and it was a GREAT location. I walked around the campground my second day and noticed that a lot of the sites differ from each other, so each one is unique in its own way. But I recommend #15 for solo or 2-3 tents! Some tips: - buy your firewood before heading up. I read that people bought bundles on site, but that wasn't a thing when I went. You CAN drive a few minutes to Ponderosa and ask for firewood. The guy at the lodge charged me 10$ to grab as many logs as I wanted. (I'd say visit Ponderosa anyways because said lodge is a really cute place to buy supplies, food, drinks, etc.) - you CAN forage for wood as well - I'm not sure if it was because I was near the bathrooms, but I had some of the most persistent flies following me around during the day. So make sure you bring fly repellant or something!! - GETTING THERE: it says on Apple Maps that the road is closed a little before the campsite... that is NOT TRUE. use google maps or just follow highway 190 East from Porterville through Springville. No closed roads. - there is a lot of dirt around, so be ready to get dusty clothes & shoes (I brought baby wipes to help that). - there's a nice hiking trail beside campsite #23 - at the "Trail of 100 Giants" (which is about 13ish miles away from camp), it's 12$ cash to park and go on the trail. Definitely worth it. Anyways... overall I had a great time. Definitely a nice campground if you don't want to go all the way into the national park but still want to experience the giant sequoia trees/sequoia national forest. :) P.S.: I drove an EV car, and was able to make the trip nicely! I topped up in Porterville (that charger was okay... better ones in Bakersfield) and left with 240 miles. Got to the campsite with 120mi (uphill driving!), but on the way back down I was back up to about 190mi. I took the 190 highway through springville there, and went back down past California Hot Springs. read more

Just had a weekend here and it was excellent! Tim the camp host was the hero of the day after a two separate incidents that we were stupidly unprepared for. He saved us with a first aid kit and then jump leads the day after so it was an eventful time let's say! The camp itself is basic as we knew, pit toilets and no cell phone reception. Tim let us use his line to call AAA. He went beyond to make sure we safe. He's dedicated to keeping the place clean and well organized. There's amazing bike trails opposite the campsite and out the back of it also. I would advise taking cash for fire wood. Thanks again Tim for all your assistance. read more

Quaking Aspen Campground is a pretty campground in Sequoia National Forest. All sites, including the yurts are primitive meaning no electricity and no plumbing. Yurts have a full sized futon and a twin-over-full sized bunk bed. You must bring your own bedding. Toilets are vault and are well maintained. There are no sinks, there are spigots only. The camp host is there Thursday-Sunday and most of the time has wood bundles for $8. He is a friendly and informative host who keeps Quaking Aspen nice and clean. You should come fully prepared for your stay before heading up. The closest store is 45min away so stock up on ice, wood and other necessities before passing Camp Nelson (on route 190). Bring bug spray- there is a pretty meadow along the campground but that means water which equates to mosquitos and other bugs. I enjoyed my stay here. It was quiet and relatively small (I think about 30 sites). read more

Very quiet campground (after we left lol); Mark the camp attendant was amazing but had very little information about the area trails as he had been there only for 3 months. We asked about bears and he mentioned that was not an issue there; so we slept with our toiletries inside our test (WHICH I LOVED!!!!) Our group rented site B; a 25 person; 4 car site ($7 or an additional vehicle) I wouldn't recommend this site for 2 reasons: most of the cleared ground is in an incline; second, site A has to walk through the site to get to the bathroom and parking lot so it can get annoying to hear people walk by your tent all all hrs of the night not to mention the brightness from their flashlights. Site A is too far from the bathrooms and you'll get the sticky eye for walking through site B. Best group site in my opinio is C-- semi-secluded with tons of sitting area and pretty close to the bathroom. Yes, it's a 50 person site but at the very least you'll have plenty of space for your group of 25 or more. My selling point was seeing the wood benches carved out of pine trees around the fire pit. I'm giving this campground 5*s based on our experience and activities around here-- oh, and lack of bears lol the only animal you have to worry about are the mosquitoes on late evenings. There's an easy hike that starts behind campsite #23 that goes all the way to Quaker Meadow. I would recommend Freeman CreeksTrail (a 2-3 min drive from here). It's beautiful, it has shade, lots of trees, bridges and in some parts it runs parallel to a creek. Also, there's Dome Rock-- the views from here are breathtaking and more so during the night. I would suggest you go around 7 p.m. or around sunset for a beautiful view of the whole valley below and for you to scout a sitting area to go back and stargaze around 10 p.m. This was legit the highlight for me. This spot is a 10 min drive from the campsite. The dirt road could be rough so use caution if you're driving a small vehicle. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at campsite 7 which was pretty nice. We had some trouble setting up our tent since the ground was on a bit of an incline but overall the space worked out. Campsite 8 is very close, almost adjacent while campsite 6 was very secluded. Since no one was reserved next to us until the last day it was pretty great but just know number 8 is super close to 7. The quaking aspen campground as a whole was very beautiful and quiet , not crowded before forth of July. There is a path next to the meadow going two ways to hike near campsite 24(i don't know exact number) with two paths, one going to a hiking trail into the forest and the other next to a creek with a tiny waterfall which i recommend exploring. If you drive past the campsite a few miles on the main road you will find Ponderosa which has a general store and bed and breakfast. A few minutes past that there is a really cool view you should check out called dome mountain or something. If you turn left onto a dirt path you will find an amazing view of the whole forest on top of a giant smooth rock peak. It was the highlight of our trip. read more

Site 25 was beautiful, right on the meadow and away from most of the campground. The trick is, regardless of what it says on recreation.com, this site is nearly impossible to get into with a trailer! You have to pull off a hairpin turn in reverse! That aside, the host was friendly enough and helped solved a huge noise problem with our neighbors. Hiking trails are tricky to find. Print maps in advance, there is no cell service at all in the area. read more

Great place to go camping! Brought our family, ages range from newborn baby to grandparents in their 50s/60s. We renting the yurt this time! Very cool! The yurts were very clean and spacious. This place is within an hour from the Trail of 100 Giants! Many other trails and spots were still closed due to the fires from last year. However, everything we did snd saw was great. This property was clean. Plenty of trash cans. Some spots have bear boxes. Ok to put food in car , but never in tents or yurts. We actually spotted some bears around 5pm away from the campground at other spots. Rey good location. read more

Stayed here over Memorial weekend '12. Place is beautiful with fairly large sites. We ended up leaving a day earlier than anticipated because it was so freakishly cold. Nearby Porterville was 70 degrees, and Quaking was 32 degrees when we arrived just 1hr later. Immediately after we arrived, it started snowing. I give this place 4 stars because it is a very nice site, however, heed my warnings below. Warnings: Elevation is 7000ft. Expect colder temperatures than any nearby cities or campsites. Take Camp Nelson's temp and minus an additional 10 degrees. Altitude may be a factor as well. Weather.com is wrong! At least it was for us. It was about 15 degrees off. The drive from Porterville is extremely windy and there is no shoulder. I'm certain many have met their makers on this road. Be rested before you try this 24 mile stretch of windy road. Port-a-potties stink badly. Not sure if we got their between changings, but I was amazed how bad it stunk. It was so cold that I expected the sh*t to freeze and not stink, but no such luck. There is fallen trees everywhere, but you may want to bring some of your own wood. Porterville Home Depot and Lowes did not readily stock firewood. This local guy made me feel real stupid when I asked him where to buy wood. "the forest is full of fallen trees...". However, most are small to medium size branches with bark. Unless you want to shuck all of the bark off, the wood creates a lot of smoke. read more

Stayed in site #9, near the office and bathroom (luckily it didn't smell bad when we were there) Out of all the sites, this one did not have a bear box. Other Yelpers were correct; the ranger that we encountered was an idiot. After explaining something, all he said was "Huuuu?" He answers our questions with vague answers, and he is so awkward just looking at us all the time. Luckily, we met the lady that works in the office. She was very helpful and informative, and gave us a copy of a map. Ponderosa is a general store two miles on the right from the highway. She mentioned the top places near Quaking Aspen: The Needles Fire Lookout, Dome Rock, Natural Waterslides and Trails of 100 Giants. The next day we were in the campground, it was only us around the site. It was really quiet, and there was a deer near our site. The day we were leaving the place, the bathroom started smelling--it was unbearable. Overall, great campground: it was clean, but we couldn't use the fire pit and must have a permit to use portable stoves. We were also near a faucet but it was closed due to drought. Pet-friendly, and there's an additional charge of $7 for extra car. read more

Quaking Aspen Campground lies in a meadow. We reserved the largest group campsite ( Site A - for 50 people). The meadow was filled with wild flowers of yellow pinks and blues. We took our trip in late July and it rained. . thunder and lightning. Eventually, the rain pooled into a little stream that lead staight to our campsite and underneath my brother's tent. Not a good place to be when it's raining. Toilets don't flush. I'm not a fan of that-at all and almost canceled the trip when I learned about the toilets. But, when we got there, they weren't as bad as I pictured them on that Friday. However, by Saturday afternoon, the smell became worse. It made sense since this toilet was surrounded by 3 group sites. Duh. Beside the toilet, the walk from our cars to our site (site A) was way too far especially for the largest group site. It was probably 50-80 yds that we had to make multiple trips to get all our stuff from the car to our camp. Summary- don't go when it's raining. Don't do group site A. Be prepared for stinky but reasonably clean toilets. It really was beautiful otherwise. read more

We came across this campground by chance and so glad we did! The fees are $22/night. There is a "camp host/ranger" on site. Wood is available for purchase through him at $7/bundle. The toilets are vault toilets which obviously smell pretty foul but that is a given. Toilet paper was available in the stalls during our entire stay however, if you need to use them from 10am-4pm you will have to battle the swarm of flies who take them over. My kids refused to use them because they were too afraid so if you're traveling with someone squeamish then beware. We stayed in site 11 and loved it. We had a picnic table, bear box and a fire ring with a grill. The site was fairly close to the sites on both sides however, the surrounding trees and bushes gave us a lot of privacy and shade! The view from this site was gorgeous..definitely a treat to wake up to. My only complain is that the large trash bins are right in front of this site and are pretty loud when people use them. The campground is close to Dome Rock and some natural water slides. We will definitely be back! read more

This was my third time staying here. My campsite had a lot of yellow jackets and black ants. The ground of my site was riddled with nests and hills of all kinds. The mosquitos and bugs were immense because of all the rain this year. The two trees provided enough shade in the morning and at lunch time but the rest of the day was in the sun. It was number 13. We also rented 14,15 for our group. The campground is quiet. There's plenty of privacy between sites. The host was a busy body acting as a gate keeper as we came in but maybe some people appreciate that. There are some good things to see nearby like the Trail of 100 Giants and the George HW Bush tree or the Natural Slides and tubs. And Peppermint Falls. Lots of trails nearby. We take Hwy 190 from the 99 through Porterville. The last 10 - 15 miles is treacherous prepare to go slow through the switchbacks. read more

Stayed at site# 14 and would not recommend it at all. There are no trees to provide shade. Luckily, we had our canopy. It is also a very small site. We had 3 tents set up (4-person tents), and didn't have much room to walk. I guess that's why they require a maximum of 6 per site. This site also does not have a bear box! We didn't see or come across any bears though. Other than the camp hosts being a couple of jackasses, the campground is really nice, well maintained, and super quiet at night. The restrooms were also right across from us. Ponderosa Lodge (General Store) is literally 1 mile down the road in case you need ice, wood, or beers. You can't beat the location of this campground because it's next to everything. Dome Rock (10 mins), Trail of 100 Giants (30 mins), Needles Lookout Point (5-8 mins). Natural Water Slides (40ish mins). ill definitely be back! but at a different site. read more

I went with a large group last year (about 50 people) and campsite A was large enough to accommodate. The only con would be that you have to carry all your gear from the parking lot THRU campsite B to get to campsite A, which is easier typed than carried out. The VAULT toilets (2) were always clean and they have a parking lot specifically for group sites A B C D. I would probably rent campsite C next time but A had a cool meadow, however all the grass was yellow because of the drought. NO FIRE was allowed when we went but we used a lantern which was fine and sad. The most we could complain would be the park ranger Sally, who was quite crass with discriminatory undertones in her address to our group. I understand its a camp ground and we have to respect quiet time but we were literally the only campsite booked, we checked. She gave us one warning, which is all it took but she literally said, " If YOU PEOPLE don't be quiet I'm going to send you back to where you came from." Mind you our group was predominately 30 adults maybe, and the rest children. She also gave us directions for a natural water slide but didn't warn us of the pretty hazardous "road" we'd have to take to get their. Its very steep and one of the cars in our group slid down the dirt road.(imagine a road with a 45 degree angle). All in all, in the end of the day, the people you're with is what shapes the experience and Sally didn't deter our family trip's success. I would go back but i do not know if I would get a group consensus to return. Maybe if I make sure Sally wont be there it might turn some votes. We never made it to Trail of 100 giants because we spent the whole day lost looking for the water slide place so the kids could swim. We did end up finding it and it was a small stream because of the drought but it was wet enough for everyone to slide and land in the water pool. Freezing. Highly recommend. PS. the river on the site map, i really gambled that we'd go swimming because the site map shows a huge pool of water but we could not find it. PPS the drive up is wind-ee? and always fuel up when you can, gas stations are sparse. Its so beautiful up there and the nights are COLD, especially without a fire. read more

Awesome campground - I probably should say the opposite, to keep it easier for me to make reservations. As per the other review complaining about the 80 yard walk, I have a feeling they were in the continuous site B, not A. You can unload your vehicles directly in front of the entrance to the campsite, then park your car 30 seconds away in the group parking lot. My recommendation: book A and B, and you'll have your own piece of paradise, completely separated from the rest of the campground. Group site B requires walking through site A. So if you don't want people walking through your group site, get both sites. Of the other groups sites, C is a bit sloped by large, while D is surrounded by a thicket of trees and plant life. There are also many individual family sites, about half of which can be booked in advance. Almost every family site is comfortable and large enough not to feel that you're on top of another campsite. When reserving, check out the map if you want more than one site, and you can most likely choose continuous campsites. Favored family campsites are those along the meadow, on the south side of the campground. Some campsites on the southwest corner of the campground are down a few log-hewn steps that provide additional privacy. Nearby: the Freeman Grove of Giant Sequoias is reached by an easy trail - see http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sequoia/gsnm/gsnm-freeman-creek-grove.html About 11 miles south, along the highway, is the Walk of the 100 Giants, with many more Sequoias and an even easier walk than the Freeman and the not-to-be-missed Needles Fire Lookout (google it), open during summer months. Most awesome: the Needles Fire Lookout, open during summer months. Google it. Three miles south of the campground: a rustic little store/bar/restaurant/gas station - the Ponderosa Lodge. To reach the campground: come up from Porterville, CA, in the Central Valley of California. The last 25 miles are extremely survey. Or one up from Highway 65, a dozen or so miles south of Porterville, at the little town of Ducor, which involves a few turns, but is far less winding. You'll also pass an old resort, California Hot Springs, along this route, good especially at the end of your trip, for a shower and plunge into the huge swimming pool (as well as enjoying an ice cream cone). read more

Just stayed here over Labor Day weekend. This was a small, well kept, attractive camp site. We stayed with a group of fifteen in sites 15, 16 and 17, and were really especially fond of site 15. It had some very level, secluded spots for the tent and was butted up against the wilderness in such a way that it was not crowded by surrounding sites. A few of the other sites were arranged very closely to their neighbors and we were glad for the privacy provided by ours. Sites 16 and 17 were arranged so closely together that, had there been two separate camping groups staying in them, it might have been a bit too close for comfort, but, since we were together, it served as a good, joint spot. As for amenities, the ground provided clean water near the sites, pit toilets throughout( not half bad, for pits. There was toilet paper provided throughout the weekend), wood for sale(though with an axe and dedication, you can find your own), fire pits, and wooden tables. When we arrived, we were surprised to find that there weren't bear boxes, but the ranger assured us that there hadn't been any bear activity in the area for some time. This is in direct contradiction with what the NPS website advised, but we made it through the weekend without any bear related issues and stored our food in the car. Trail heads for some interesting hiking are nearby, just up the road a mile or so. There is a meadow and tiny stream on the edge of the grounds. We found that previous reviews mentioning the weather would be significantly colder than forecasted in surrounding areas were true. Also, be prepared for a very winding ascent up the mountain, coming from either direction. The drive tested the stomach and resolve of many of our campers. In short, be prepared for cold, don't freak out about bears and do your best to reserve site 15. read more

I hadn't been camping in almost 10 years when we headed up for this last minute trip with some friends so please keep that in consideration when reading this review. We got here early on a weekend with some rain so we were able to walk through all the campsites and evaluate them without anyone around. Some are smaller than others, but all are clean and well kept. Some have bonus features like giant benches carved out of tree stumps. All have picnic tables, bear boxes, and fire rings/pits. It looks like they are making a lot of improvements to the grounds, building new yurts and revitalizing some of the smaller campgrounds. You would never know California was in a drought by looking at this place, tall, full, green trees, shrubs EVERYWHERE! We stayed at campsite 10 and loved the seclusion compared to some of the others. Tons of areas to explore, great trails, very small stream, lots of rock formations etc. If you are a geocacher, there are a couple of those within the campsite, however we didn't get around to hunting any down. There are plenty of outhouses, they were clean, but smelt like an outhouse (what are you gonna do? It is what it is) Plenty of water (hose bibs) around the sites, just yards away from most campsites. No showers. We got there the first weekend of the season so there wasn't any firewood so we had to drive to Ponderosa and get some for $2 a stick (YIKES!) The campground eventually got some for about $4-$6 a bundle I beleive) Staff was very friendly and helpful with directions, information etc. Worthwhile sightseeing opportunities are Dome Rock about 10 minutes away and Trail of 100 Trees about 20 minutes away. Ponderosa is about 2 miles away and has a restaurant/bar. Staff was ok, not super friendly. There was a chili cook off and bbq going on in the parking lot that was a lot of fun with good, cheap food. Restaurant was a little pricey but your options are limited. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, highly recommended! Would have given it 5 stars but with my limited camping experience lately don't feel I have the knowledge to give it such a high rating. read more

We just stayed here Friday, July 12 - July 14 for our family camping trip. The campground is beautiful. We stayed on site 21 which was on a shared "area" with the next site but luckily no one showed so we got a huge site to ourselves. Regardless of the somewhat shared space, the site was pretty big. There is a trail you can hike that starts at one meadow and goes to another. Otherwise, you can take a LONG hike to get to the main hikes nearby that lead to Sequoia groves - or just drive there. We also did some creek fishing just passed Ponderosa in Peppermint Creek. We caught two small ones - nothing big - but enjoyable for the fishermen in our party. We have a 2 1/2 year old son and this was the perfect site for him. Some sites are closer to the downhill slope leading to the river (more like a creek) and others are right along a meadow. Our site was in the center surrounded by trees. This site would get 5 stars if it wasn't for the bathrooms. I'm not a fan of non flushing toilets though... they smelled pretty horrible and in the day are covered in flies. they were not nearly as bad as the ones in Peppermint but still. I gagged coming out of them. The weather was warm during the day. (80 ish?) and the nights were pretty chilly. they wouldn't have been nearly as we could've had a campfire but there was a campfire ban in effect for all Sequoia National Park - not unbearable if you bring the right clothes. I think someone near the meadow saw a bear because we heard them slamming pots and pans shooing him away for a minute but I could be wrong. They just installed bear boxes for some of the campsites. Ours did not have one. In short - bad bathrooms but beautiful campground, very calm, not many trails near it, but beautiful regardless. read more

I have mixed reviews about this campground. We had originally reserved campsite G, which was booked as a small group campsite, suitable for up to 12 people. When I arrived I laughed out loud. Not only was the campsite small but it was completely sloped, even the picnic tables were at an angle. There was one small level site good for one tent. I spoke to the host and they were kind enough to give us two other available campsites to make up for it. The host said almost no one ever complains about that site which I have a difficult time believing. We the moved to site 23 which was right on the meadow. It was wonderful. So much for the kids to do, lots of butterflies in the meadow, a small stream and rocks to climb on and trails to hike. They had a wonderful time. The sites are inconsistent, some have faucets and bear boxes, others don't. We had to walk to the bathroom for a faucet. The vault toilets really started stinking by Sunday but were pretty clean. Be warned the road getting up there is extremely windy. Everyone got car sick, it also took about 30 minutes longer than MapQuest or Waze predicted. read more

We were 2 families that stayed at sites 16 & 17. They are close together so I'm glad we knew each other, would not recommend site 16 alone as it had little shade. Site 17 was better since it was bigger and had shade on the picnic table and log chairs around the fire pit. The toilets are very close and certainly smelt worse as the day went on. Firewood can be bought at the camp site. Would stay here again as there are a few trails within walking distance (freeman creek trail highly recommend) but some sites are certainly better than others. read more

Great, clean campground with an attached hiking trail. Only problem was the number of people driving through late at night and the road noise from the cattle guard on the road that runs past the campgrounds. Was there in late August and had maybe 2 or 3 others in the campground for the 2 nights were stayed. read more

We booked a yurt in this campground and it had water facility too. Inside we had one bunker bed and another normal bed. Totally 5 adults were able to sleep comfortably. Please carry blankets and some bedsheets if you don't wanna sleep on the plastic cover of the new beds. I guess the Yurts were built recently. We did camping for a day and there was a store in like less than 2 miles where we got our wood logs. One bundle was like 2$. We got some drinks too. It was a great camping experience overall. No showers so plan your trip accordingly read more

Quaking Aspen Campsite Cabin - This cabin was nostalgic! You feel like you are a forest ranger stepping back into the 1940's. Outside your door is wonderful trees that have seen more history than your great, great grandparents. The cabin is surrounded by meadows filled with wild flowers and a quaint stream. The Forest Rangers were friendly & helpful but respect your privacy. The cabin is close enough to the individual campground spots that you can go as a group and stay in the cabin but be part of the nightly campfires. (we were 4 families - and the cabin was a 5 minute walk on the paved camp site road) Hot showers, flush toliet, oven and fridge - the best of both worlds. The cabin would not pass Anthony Melchiorri (hotel impossible tv host) clean test - but compared to sleeping in a tent in the dirt - it was clean enough. read more

We stayed in camsite #9. It had a bear box which we used. It was very level.The campground was very well taken care of. The campground host does a very good job in taking care of this little gem. The price was $26.00 a night. We will definitely go back. read more
