Wow what a place!
I reluctantly type this review only because I don't want this secret hideaway to be revealed. This is a special place where old and I mean old Florida comes alive before your eyes.
I wanted to do something different for my birthday and I have been wanting to go here for awhile. The concept is simple, It's an hunting lodge with a sporting clay facility a mile up the street. They have one bedroom cabins to rent which look similar to the ones at Fort Wilderness in Disney. The log cabins have a seperate bedroom, ours had two twin beds, sleeper futon in living room and a loft that is great for kids (9 to older ages) to sleep in. They have a full frig, small stove, flat screen TV and free WIFI. It has a nice front porch to sit and relax and watch the world turn. The also have a cabin the houses 8 rooms with king-size beds. The entire facility is dog friendly.
They have a huge Hunting Lodge which also serves as a official meeting place of guests/hunters and also houses the dining room (see pics). This lodge has darts, a card table, pool table, a bar type shuffle board game (all free), a huge fireplace, and tons of mounted animals. There is a fire-pit right outside the side entrance (see pic) and on one night a family was cooking their own steaks over this pit. It was pretty cool to watch.
Talking about food, they have their own chefs and you pick your dinner from a set menu. On the first night we had rib eyes with mash potatoes, a vegetable medley served with a salad, garlic rolls, and for dessert a chocolate mousse. The second night we had Shrimp Scampi, Salmon with a dill butter and cheese burgers which my son said they were as good as Charm City. All of entries were served with a Cesar salad, sourdough rolls, mash potatoes, corn on the cob, and for dessert a creme brulle (see pics). Breakfast is all you can eat southern fare, eggs, bacon. sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy (best that I have had), cheese grits, Belgium waffles, juice, cereal, coffee, tea, hmmmmm did I leave anything out...lol. oh yeah toast, and english muffins All the food was excellent. The prices for breakfast run about 12 and change and dinner is 25 to 35 dollars depending on what you order. Gratuity is extra. Lunch is served at the Clay Shooting area and it costs around 7 and change. On the days we were there, they had burgers, hot-dogs, chicken salad sandwiches, BBQ beef brisket sandwiches, fries, and a watermelon salad. The brisket and the watermelon salad were pretty tasty.
Oh yeah, they don't serve alcohol at any of the facilities so it's BYOB and there is no corking fee. From what I hear a saloon maybe in the works:)
Now the skeet/clay shooting area is pretty interesting. They have two courses set up and you can rent shotguns and buy the ammo. They track how many clays you shoot by a key you insert at each station. 100 clays cost around 42 dollars. You can also rent a golf cart or just walk to each shooting station. I am the only person in my family that has ever shot a shotgun. To my surprise, my wife and daughter wanted to shoot so we rented two shotguns a 28 gage for the girls and 20 for me and my son. They hooked us up with a guide who explained the course, the rules, how to load and shoot the shotguns. He stayed with us for 3 shooting stations, there are 14, coaching my family and answering our questions. Everyone had a great time and we shot on both days.
Lastly, they have a swamp buggy tour that is complementary to guests. They take you on a tour of the plantation which is 4000 acres plus. I took two pics on the tour which reminded me of some of the old Florida pictures that the Sun-Sentinel have been running for Ft. Lauderdale's 100th birthday. We didn't see any deer, just some cows and a black turtle...lol but the ride was pretty cool. You would need to get rates on the quail, deer, and turkey hunts.
Damn this is longest review ever LOL. So much to do and not do , if you wish, at Quail Creek. It's about and hour and 45 minutes drive north from Coral Springs and we will be back for sure. Remember to tell Maria, her husband Fred, Debbie, Chef Nat, Hunting guide Bill, his wife Maria, and most importantly the owner Whit Hudson and his wife Gwen that Dan sent you and stay Hungry! read more
