My husband ordered a "cibo big breakfast", I ordered the "pasta of the day". We also bought a…read moremushroom bruschetta, and a chocolate brownie which were already made and presented appetisingly in the front counter window. The girl who served us wasn't rude, but she wasn't kind either; she made no eye contact with us at all. We sat at a table just outside the door and waited for our food... for 34 minutes. When the food finally came we were sorely disappointed in both the quality of the food, and the portion sizes. For over $21 you'd expect a decent sized plate of pasta but not at cibo cafe. The fettuccine was overcooked, the salmon almost like the dehydrated food they feed astronauts in space, and the scallops were so rubbery I could have used them to erase pencil on paper. Even my husband's scrambled eggs looked sad - they were cold! And the "sautéed" mushroom looked like they were dry-fried. The mushroom bruschetta wasn't much better, it was lacklustre and in dire need of flavour! The brownie was also a complete let down, it was more like a dry cake. To top off the crap cake with poop icing and sprinkles, the entire time we were eating we had to swat away the flies that were attacking our plates, water glasses, and table. We were disgusted because we could tell that it was the sticky, unwashed tables that were attracting the entire community of flies to the alfresco dining area. If we are ever back in Whangarei, we will sooner eat cold pies from a dairy than to spend money at cibo cafe again. From the furniture setup to the food to the customer service, this place is trash.
