On Saturday I received a copy of the Good Food Guide 2011 - and to my surprise there was a restaurant from Leek in there. I could not believe such a prestigious guide would even consider a restaurant from Staffordshire let alone the Moorlands. I could not wait to try it. Unfortunately they were fully booked on Saturday so ended up going there on Sunday instead. I read their menu online from their impressive website (the best I have seen for any restaurant) and made my choices. The descriptions in the menu are well thought out and explain to a tee what is in them. I went for a coconut and beetroot Somosa starter (strange combo) - tasted great, my son had the Qarma fish - superb. For mains I had the Bangladeshi lamb - lamb shanks bangladeshi style and my son went for the Mashur Chicken - a spicy minty concoction that really hits the spot. Both were superb and the service just right friendly but not overbearing, not too quick so that the dishes are served immediately one after the other. One thing that I noticed was a sign - Our meals are prepared fresh therefore take longer to prepare - yes admittedly it took a bit longer than what I am used to but the food was immense, the ambience was superb - and waiting an extra ten minutes for food like that is worth every second. I would strongly recommend this place as I found out when I was there - they are going to Westminster to participate in another award (Tiffin Cup) as they were voted the best in Staffordshire by the people of Staffordshire- so Tiffin Cup, Good Food Guide 2011 - only the AA and Michelin to reward these guys with the recognition they undoubtedly deserve!! read more
