Our main course was crispy cod tails on lemon risotto topped with a terrific sauce of caramelized corn. The sauce was spicy and made the dish. For desert we had a lovely blueberry concoction with the unappealing name of "blueberry grunt"! This wasn't foodie food but super fresh ingredients prepared simply and beautifully. After dinner we moved into the main dining room for a terrific musician playing mostly NS folk music. All in all it was a great evening. Great food, great music, friendly people. If you're in Truro, don't miss the Nook.

We were keeping a close eye on time. At 6:48 we asked about the order and we were told it had only been 20 mins. Not true! At 7:10- still no sign of food - so at 7:13 we decided to get it all to go. We left a 10% tip despite slow service. The other table of four had been served, had eaten, and left by 7:05. I ordered fish and chips. Batter bit thick so uncooked inner dough in few places but fish was delicious. The chips??? I'm just going to post a picture showing total - quantity minus one chip - couldn't eat them! Cole slaw delicious. If you go before a show give them two hours! I honestly think the order was held up. Maybe lots of orders ahead?? but that other table had plenty of time! And they were literally less than 5 minutes at most ahead of us!

It makes for a nice pitstop if you are driving to/from New Brunswick. They make their own maple syrup and specialize in all things maple. If you don't like pancakes, this probably isn't the place for you. Everything on the menu is made with maple. If you have the time, there is a nice mountain trail just out the front door that apparently a lot of folks hike before eating. We couldn't fit it in but I bet it would have made the experience even better. My pancakes with maple roasted pecans were good, not mind blowing, but good. My coffee with maple whipped cream was good but I typically take it black and wasn't a fan of all the sweetness. They do feature some non-pancake items like maple baked Mac n' cheese that was apparently recently on the Food Network. Also, some kind of French toast. But we all went for the pancakes. Service on our visit was not super fast but everyone was very nice and the place was very busy. They have a store with syrup, their own maple porter, and other wares. Overall we enjoyed our visit to this picturesque spot.

The add-on of blueberry compote could be a bigger scoop and I would happily pay another dollar to get more. If you go hiking on the trails in the area the breakfast is welcome stop before or after. You can buy syrup straight from the farm (or next door) here. The tour is fun for kids and might be more interesting if you go during the spring season.

Located in its quaint space at the south end of Provost, it has a bright colour palette, with school bus yellow leading the chromatic charge to your retinas. Ordering is done at the counter, where you have your choice of a handful each of sweet and savoury waffles, smoothies and salads. On my first time there, my wife and I were grabbing a late lunch, and it being the weekend, I was feeling brunch-y, so I went with their B.E.A.S.T. - Bacon, Egg, Aioli, Spinach and Tomato (and also cheese, but that didn't fit the acronym, I guess). My wife, seeing that they had a gluten-free waffle option (+$2), took the opportunity to get something that she is rarely able to - get a donair. The B.E.A.S.T. was a solid breakfast-ized version of the BLT, with the egg adding some more protein and the lightly sweet and crisp waffle bringing more to the show than your typical bread. Wrapped handily in compostable paper, it was apparent from this and some signs around the waste bins that WBS is making an effort to be as low-impact on the environment as possible. My wife's donair waffle was stuffed with generous layers of Mr. Donair-brand meat, so while the meat itself wasn't all that special, it was cool that the GF waffle allowed my wife to have a donair. As for the waffle itself, it was a bit more crumbly than its full-gluten brethren, but had a nice flavour. On our return visit, we both went with the daily specials - me the breakfast scramble and the bruschetta for my other half. I really enjoyed my breakfast scramble. The mix of lightly sweet ham, layers of richness from the meat, eggs and hollandaise, and pops of heat from the banana peppers made for a delight for my taste buds. Lightly crisp and sweet bits of waffle made sure that not a drop of hollandaise went to waste. The bruschetta waffle was a cool dish. Big flavours of pesto and garlic butter, with some acidic brightness of cherry tomatoes and some heft from the chicken. Topped with melted mozza and feta, this was a definite winner. Waffle Bus Stop is a fun, tasty spot that helps anchor Provost Street and adds a creative angle to the restaurant scene in the county.

However, the service was good and the ambiance was "sandwich shop." The sandwich was a surprise. What they should do is use the waffles as the inventor intended; turn the waffled sides inside to hold more mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc.

The last time I was there, my jaw actually dropped at the size of the two over easy eggs on my plate! I'm sure they come from a local supplier - these wouldn't fit into the normal grocery store egg categories. Hashbrowns are also phenomenal. And, I don't know another local diner in the area that gives you a breakfast plate with homemade, thick cut toast, dripping in butter along with breakfast meat that will go above and beyond any other diner's attempt to satisfy. Trust me, this plate of awesomeness is not for the faint of heart, but it's bar none the best breakfast in all of Pictou County. Opt for the sausages - you won't be disappointed. And then make sure who ever is with you gets the bacon. Cause you'll obviously want to try a strip of that, too. Service is laid back. Coffee is fine - it's diner quality, and that's fine by me. The floors creak and the locals pretty much have assigned seating. Tables are small and the ceilings are low, but it's all part of the atmosphere, folks! Don't forget to pick up a few baked goods from the general store. Pies, rolls, breads and other yummy items are always fresh baked and are completely drool-worthy. Enjoy!
