The reason for my rating is that it was kind of expensive. I know I was alone eating by myself but i had to keep asking for simple things like water, or a drink compared to the rest of the people that had groups. I wasn't even offered a glass of port or a refill on my alcohol. I highly enjoyed the singers and music. They played a good amount of sets. The food: appetizers and entree were good. However, was disappointed in the dessert choices. I asked for a banana and caramel thing. However, it literally was just a piece of banana. This place was alright, just pretty pricey.

I'm sure it's paid for with the seventy euros that I paid for. Anything additional is obviously extra. I ordered pork ribs, which were sooooooooo good. The simple and lightly glazed of honey mustard was perfect. The meat came off the bone easily. After the main course, one of the employees later came back and asked what I wanted for dessert. I couldn't decide between two options, so he served me both. Thank you! One was a Portuguese dessert which consisted of sugar and eggs. I was hesitant, but I was willing to try something new and eat what the locals eat. I am not a fan of cinnamon, which was sprinkled on top, but it was ok. It paired well together. The second dessert was rice pudding! It was probably one of the best rice pudding I've ever tasted. Not too bland and not too sweet. It was perfection. Now, let the show begin! The first performer was amazing. Her voice was incredible! Unfortunately, I after the first performer because there were several people talking in the back and it totally killed the mood and performances. The disappointing thing was that none of the staff told them to stop during the performance. People kept shushing but the people talking and they didn't stop. It was disruptivannoying. I decided to leave and not deal with the rude and inconsiderate people. For a better customer satisfaction, before the performance start, I suggest taking time to remind the diners to not speak when the performer is singing. It totally ruined the what-could have been an amazing event.

The inside is very charming and cozy. The fado show was incredible. The singers and instrumentalists did a fantastic job and although I couldn't understand the words, it was still quite beautiful and moving. I understand that if you are looking for a more "authentic" experience the Chiado and Bairro Alto are a better place to seek that out. That said-- we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and fado here even though we were prepared for it to feel kitschy and touristy. We arrived around 8 pm for the 8:30 show and were able to get in with no reservation for a table of 6. No idea if that is the norm or not. The next thing you need to know is that the menu here is more sharing plates than entree style meals. Oddly, we had a hard time getting our server to take the order from our whole table of 6. He would take one or two items and then dash off. I am unsure if this is because their kitchen is tiny or what. That said-- the food we ordered was all delicious. The tuna steak and polenta/cheese dish particularly got high marks. Fado is enjoyed in silence. Some in our group were initially a little put-off by the "lecture" at the front door to be silent during the show. But, honestly, the show itself was so captivating, I don't think anyone was tempted to chat. But, on the topic of silence, the restaurant will only take/serve orders during breaks in the show. The cadence is 20 minutes of music and then a 20 minute break. I think there were 3-4 "sets" during the evening. Most people left before the end but as we were waiting for our final orders we ended up staying for the whole show.

This looks to be a popular restaurant for some locals and tourists. The menu is pretty straight forward and serving up the most popular Portuguese and Lisbon fare. Some of the staff do not speak English. The food took some time to come out due to miscommunication with the older server who didn't speak English. The other server was able to resolve our issue and fix up our order. The prices here are very reasonable and the portions are huge. I wish I found this place sooner because every dish that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. As for our steaks, my Tbone had nice flavour and was juicy. The only critique would be the cooking consistency of the steak. There some parts medium rare and other parts well done. The steak was served with fries. You can add additional side of rice or salad for additional cost. The steak with Portuguese sauce was served with egg on top and gravy. The steak was well done instead of medium rare which we would prefer. The fries were served on the side so they won't get soggy from the gravy. Next time we will try the cod fish which comes fried, grilled or boiled. I saw alot of patrons ordering the fried sausage and the cow steak with chips, rice and egg. I recommend coming here early and prepare to wait if you are larger party. The prices are really reasonable and the portions were generous. The beers here were ice cold and smooth. The desserts are good too and we will try this place again before we leave Lisbon.

I ordered the grilled cod and I hope they don't get tired of me if I'm here everyday for my 5 day trip. I dipped the bread in the garlic butter remains after the cod and potatoes dish. I ate while others were standing at the door waiting to get in for a table. I felt so lucky but a little bad because they got there a little late for dinner, so come exactly at 7pm if you want a good seat for dinner. The locals all ordered the steak, so that's my choice for tomorrow. Yes, I know there are other places that might be fancier, but I chose quality protein with food that does not require extra salt and pepper. No salt and pepper at each table =a confident chef. My highest recommendation for the first day when you are slightly jet lagged and need a consistent, solid protein boost from your flight. It also respects your budget for those who have other splurges to invest in during your trip.

I've had so many fantastic and memorable meals they are too numerous to list (even on a spreadsheet). But, I've never had a "WTF" meal ever, until tonight. Tonight's dinner at Canponesa in Lisbon, Portugal slammed me like Mac Truck. Camponesa is this amazing restaurant that does not take reservations, is cash only and a 90 minute wait is normal to secure a table. But what you get, if your patient and tenacious, is a 5 Star dinner that not only astound you, but will blow your mind, like it did mine. Their menu is on a portable blackboard your server brings to your table and explains each dish they offer. Everything, I repeat everything they offer sounds stupendous. We chose four: * A whole squid cooked in a way that the texture is indescribable. It's firm but not crunchy and it's in a onion warm sauce. I've never had squid done so unusually, and it was fantastic! * Whole Unshelled Prawns in a spicy sauce that was so good it made my liver quiver. Just amazing! * A raw beef dish that was ever so slightly seared with pickled onions, raw celery root with an olive oil base. It was so unique you won't find a match to this dish anywhere on this planet. * Like these three dishes weren't enough, our fourth and final dish was as mind blowing as any psychedelic drug known to man - a Charred Veal Rib that will certainly go down as "The Best Thing I Ever Ate In My Life"!!!!! It was so good, I cannot put into words how honestly exquisite and well prepared a "food" can be / get / happen / transpire or come about. Out of the thousands and thousands of things I've eaten (since that Lobster Thermador at 7 years old), this one, large veal rib was my pièce de résistance bite ever - and there is "No" second place - "Period"! The service was stellar, the ambiance is "old school" comfortable Cafe style and the wine list represents Portuguese wine at it's best. My experience here is as good as any meal can get! If I'm within 1,000 miles of Lisbon, Portugal, I will travel here just for one more world class dinner these nice people create.

Dishes were served family style to each table and included a variety of Portuguese specialities. Wine and beer was also included. The show began with two musicians/singers and they were fantastic. Later our server joined in and then the cook! What a fantastic performance! Fado is often referred to as Portuguese blues with haunting ballads.
