As an Alberta local, the habitats in this area are quite familiar, but it's set up well. There's a trailhead with a public washroom in a nearby subdivision, and it's well marked and easy to find. The walking on these boardwalks is very easy and flat, and I think it would be good if you had limited mobility issues. When we visited we didn't see anything other than a couple of ducks, I think dawn or dusk is the best time to see beavers in action. We did find that a significant number of the boardwalks were submerged underwater or damaged, and the trails close to the water were closed. The maps could have also been a little bit better, so this left us looking at people across a body of water on an area that we couldn't figure out how to get to a number of times. Overall, a nice nature walk, and hopefully the volunteer association that built the area is able to get some funding to shore up all the areas that have been collapsed or submerged.

I don't know when was the last time I was in such a beautiful man-made place that was meant to put us in touch with nature. We got lucky because in addition to seeing cool birds, fish, frogs and bugs, we also saw beavers very actively doing their thing (this was middle of July). If you want to see them, your best bet is to come in the afternoon around sunset time. Bring a camera and your curiosity. If you're come and see a piece of trash while walking around, please pick it up, it's such a wonderful place.

They had lakes of all shapes and sizes. There was a roadside lake that I stopped at that was turquoise in color. We visited Maligne Lake with its azure colored waters. Unfortunately, we arrived too late to the lake to get tickets to their boat ride to Spirit Island. Animals weren't seen until my last day there when I spotted bighorn sheep. The town of Jasper was the major hub in the park with lots of shops, restaurant and a nice visitor center. You could buy all the souvenirs that want. There was a recent wildfire that burned part of the town in Jasper and some of the sites. Maligne Canyon was still closed. This is an beautiful place to visit if you like the outdoors.

In the three days we were here, we hiked Valley of Five Lakes, Maligne Canyon, Path of Glaciers at Edith Cavell, Bald Hills at Maligne Lake, and Sulphur Skyline. My favorite was Sulphur Skyline followed by Bald Hills. Both were more challenging hikes, but the views were definitely worth it. Maligne Canyon was pretty, but because it was easy, it was very crowded. We didn't see any wildlife while hiking, but we did see a lot while driving, especially on our way back from Maligne Lake. I thought the views were just as good in Jasper as they were in Banff. The lakes are prettier in Banff, but there were great mountain views everywhere you looked. This is definitely a must stop national park in the Canadian Rockies.

And it's true. Jasper National Park is a damn national treasure, possibly a damn global treasure. Is that a saying? During the brief respite in Canada from full-on lockdown this summer, my family made a calculated (very masked, very recently Covid-19-tested) risk and retreated into the mountains. We have been to Banff and Lake Louise on multiple occasions, but this was our first time in Jasper. The extra three hour drive always seemed extreme, especially with small children. The drive across glaciers and through the mountains itself is a thing of beauty. Not to be catty, but Jasper made Banff look kind of ugly. It's peaceful, pure and so stunning it's hard to explain in words. If you have the opportunity, visit this unparalleled national park.

A little bit farther and a little bit more of a work out, the lower falls offer a crowd-free experience. My husband and I visited shortly after visiting Athabasca falls and pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. It was an overcast day, but that did not take away from the beauty of everything we saw. There is plenty of parking as well as a public restroom when you get to Sunwapta Falls.

You turn there and go less than a half mile to a loop / parking area near the falls. When we went (early afternoon on a Monday in the summer), it was a bit challenging to find a parking space. Overflow appeared to be along the approach road. We did find a space that was being vacated by another car, but later it appeared this was likely a less-than-legitimate parking space. Oh well. The falls are quite close to the parking area (maybe 100 yards?). There are actually two falls connected by a narrow / deep canyon of about 100 feet in length. There are several viewing areas and it pays to visit all 3 - 4 of them, to get the best overview of both falls. I'd recommend visiting in the afternoon for better lighting. Also, if you are visiting both, I'd recommend coming here *before* going to Athabasca Falls (which is further along the road towards Jasper), as the latter is more impressive. That is not to say that Sunwapta is not worthwhile; I just think you'll be more impressed with it if you see it first and are not comparing it at the time with Athabasca. The trails to overlooks are fairly short. Seeing the whole place took on the order of 30 - 45 minutes, for us. YMMV. Definitely a worthwhile stop, though.

I guess maybe if you're a local of the area...it's a fine place to come and hang out. But, I would say for tourists (which Jasper receives plenty of especially during summer times) who are interested in exploring the Canadian Rockies...I would suggest you skip Lake Annette. And coinciding with Lake Annette within one park is Lake Edith as well. Tourist-wise, it pales in comparison to the rest of the sights and surroundings near Jasper and the world famous Icefields Parkway. If you decide to come and spend time here, I'd just temper expectations. I found the lake to be not so colorful and there were barely visible snowcapped mountains set in the distance. Though, this lake could be good for a picnic and hanging around outside appreciating the fresh air...that's for sure. For myself who had just journeyed from Banff all the way north to Jasper...I'd stopped on by for a few moments, took a few pictures, and then went on my way towards the next attraction. I'm not sure why I had Lake Annette (and Lake Edith for that matter) as a place I'd find worthwhile. I believe just, during my research about how to best and efficiently enjoy Jasper, these lakes were mentioned. In the end...it's no big deal. At least I got to see what Lake Annette is about so I have no regrets. And Lake Annette is situated about 10 - 15 kilometers outside of downtown Jasper so I barely had to drive here. Finally, for tourists who have traveled a long ways to arrive in Jasper, I'd suggest skipping Lake Annette. For those folks who live in the area...Lake Annette is a fine spot to come and leisurely enjoy nature.
