We could not be happier with our decision, and we could not be happier with ECOcentrix as our solar company. The system Aaron designed is working perfectly. Throughout the process, Aaron was very clear about what was going on, what the next steps would be, and what we should expect, and was diligent in making sure that everything was done properly. When any snags or issues came up at any point in the process, Aaron made sure that they were resolved and that we were aware of everything important. Before our solar installation went live, our electricity service was not nearly as reliable as we needed it to be, with power outages at least once a year, in some cases lasting for several hours. Since our system was activated, we've had two occasions when we lost grid power, and in both cases we were only aware of the interruption because our Enphase system notified us that it had happened. It brings amazing peace of mind to know that we're not at risk of an extended outage every time a storm with high winds sweeps through the area. And it's also very satisfying to have an electric bill of $10 to $15 per month!

I recently had the pleasure of having Hampel Plumbing swap out my hot water heater, a job that took…read moreroughly 3 hours. This was not an emergency, I did not need to do it immediately, and I was more than happy to let them pick the day and time for the job. The heater itself was covered under warranty, so that cost was zero. The labor cost however, was a staggering $1600 for 3 hours. Now, I'll be transparent: I did not ask for a quote beforehand, as I did not expect a heater swap to be so highly priced, and Hampel did not offer a quote. For reference, plumbers in the St. Louis area typically charge $35-$130 per hour (source: Angi). At 3 hours, that's roughly $105-$390 for the job. Home Depot charges approximately $325 for basic water heater installation labor. Lowe's comes in around $200-$400. I paid $1,600. To their credit, after I raised the issue, Hampel did offer a $200 discount, bringing my total down to a still-impressive $1,400 for a 3-hour labor-only job. That's roughly $467/hour. The work itself was excellent. The water is hot. I have no complaints about the plumbing. Only about the invoice. If you use Hampel, and plenty of people do, I would simply suggest asking for a written quote before work begins that breaks down every single line item. A small step that, in my case, would have saved me approximately $1,200. --- Sources for average labor costs of water heaters in my area. * Angi - St. Louis plumber hourly rates ($35-$130/hr): https://www.angi.com/articles/how-much-does-it-cost-repair-water-heater/mo/st-louis * HomeAdvisor - Average water heater labor costs nationally ($150-$450 for standard tank swap): https://www.homeadvisor.com/cost/plumbing/install-a-water-heater/ * Home Depot installation labor (~$325): https://www.thepricer.org/home-depot-water-heater-installation-cost/ * Lowe's installation labor ($200-$400): https://smartwatersource.com/lowes-vs-home-depot-water-heater-installation/

We finally came across an issue that, we believed, was serious enough for a professional. We called Ed Bellm, who have served our area for well over 50 years. Upon our original consultation, things weren't looking good--it seemed our plumbing concern (a corroded copper water stack) was going to cost us a great deal of money. When Chris, the company's owner, came out to give us an estimate for the work, he found that our water stack was not affected, but we simply need to attend to some atypical piping from the home's previous owners. He fixed us up right there and charged us nothing for his visit. The company could have went ahead with their original estimated work, made a hefty profit from us, and moved on--but they chose to be honest and have now earned our trust and business for the rest of the time we'll own this home. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend their business.
