Some of us pretend to be stars (every resident here is a big TALKER), but some of us actually are…read more Enter me: I model, I act. I do it for fun versus my true career calling. Today though, I got to tape a TV show for the Game Show Network. I legally can't disclose any more details but I'll just say that Jerry Springer is the show's host (he's a DOLL), the entire episode revolved around ME, and that I was dubbed the "Slutty Rocker Chick". Anyway, the Game Show Network has leased space for current production at Saticoy Studios in Van Nuys. Owned by Hollywood Mobile Systems whom also manage Hayvenhurst Studios, Saticoy Studios was built in 2006. A full sound stage building consists of four floors of dressing rooms (some with showers), productions offices, catering/craft services area, stage elevators, catwalks, and a 12,000 ampage system. The exterior has a sort of New York apartment meets 1800s Charles Dickens feel to provide that essential element to exterior shots as opposed to the Wild West Saloon theme of the exterior of Hayvenhurst Studios. Although not the "prettiest" in interior aesthetics, the layout is perfect for production. The makeup/wardrobe rooms are spacious, large mirrors, with a HUGE wardrobe area, while the dressing rooms have a "living room" area with a couch and then your personal changing/closet area. I felt like the starlet I rightfully am. The actual stage area is LARGE, with a medium-sized arena style audience seating, and ample office areas off stage. Large or small productions can rent space for use and prices are reasonable. It may not be the swankiest studio but it gets the job done and well. Especially when a big network like the Game Show Network is in play and then you get treated like royalty. So go ahead, be a star. Maybe you will end up on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I can't compare with what it used to be, but this current studio was just fine. They had brought in a porta potty station with 5 stalls as well as one large porta potty. Down the street is a top massage and also an im burger joint. The studio was pretty cold inside, so bring a jacket.

The paint is also cracked and wrinkled out of the box as if they have already been in use. The only thing I'm more disappointed about was their response to the problem... customer service literally said that "they are meant for stunts and not for cosplay", basically excusing themselves for the finishing job being hap hazard. Also, the only remedy they offered me was to send the props back to them at my own expense. Terrible product and worse handling of the situation.

Typically their SPFX props are custom made to order from scratch so they need time to make them for you-so keep this in mind. However, in record time and many calls on my part later they were able to accommodate me and it worked out very well for our production. I ordered breakaway glass (beer bottles & two different kind of vases) I would recommend ordering several of the same prop as you obviously can only smash the product once, so consider ordering bulk for multiple shots for your scenes. They delivered exactly as they said they would and I got my order next day air with an hour to spare before filming the scenes that I needed them for. Additionally, I ordered fake shattered glass pieces that looked amazing on camera as well as a syringe prop & scalpel prop that draws blood. Everything looked and felt great for the scenes and my actors were able to use them all with ease! The customer service was top notch, very polite & accommodating for all of my questions and needs. Thanks again New Rule FX!

From a design perspective, Ave. Six offers me the ability to created unique designs for my clients by providing what I call a "great foundation" to build on. For example, the wood plank floor in the East Stage would cost $1000's of dollars to install in a raw stage. By installing sets on this ready made floor, I can put my clients art budget towards other design elements more critical to their project. This also holds true for larger sets when I need to incorporate their standing set walls into my designs. Ave Six has great logistics (location, parking, truck space, easy load-in) They also have an exceptionally accommodating and wonderful staff whose goal is to help productions in their work, not hinder them. For example, on my last shoot there I was allowed to use Ave. Six backdrops in my designs from one of their stages not rented by the production company because it wasn't booked by anyone else. Ave. Six Studios is a great, unique stage facility and an invaluable resource for Art Directors looking to deliver the most for their clients. I would (and have many times) recommended them without reservation.
