The duck gizzar confit with caramelized onions and grilled tomato sauce was great. The eggs carbonara on bread with pork belly was well executed. The crispy octopus with potato salad, smoked pork belly and beak chili vinaigrette was mediocre at best; the octopus was overcooked and the dish did not come together for us. The rib-eye steak with pure butter zest, roasted vegetables and roasted country corn meal was delicious and we would return for this lovely rendition. read more

My things when I'm traveling is to try Michelin rated restaurants because they're cheaper than trying one in New York. I was traveling solo in Rio and decided to try Puro because the prices were great and I can dine by myself and not look like my date stood me up. This place has two floors and outdoor seating. I chose outdoor because that's just always my go to lol. The place is still kind of small and intimate with little seating due to the space. Not many people spoke good English unfortunately. I had to use my translate app to communicate which wasn't an issue for me since I am in THEIR country. I ordered their shrimp and squash and it was delicious, nothing to completely brag and rave about but it was really good. I order their coffee mousse for dessert and had to send it back. It was too strong for my liking. Luckily, they did swap it out because sometimes in foreign countries they do not allow you to swap. If you don't like it you still have to pay. So I got their caramel cake which I lovedddd and I can rave about that. I wanted some of the meals I saw on here (from the pics) but they said they weren't available . I had a great time here and even with the language barrier I felt welcomed and would definitely recommend. Sorry I didn't take a pic of the menu but I'll say for my soft drink, entree and dessert everything came up to $26.83 usd so that's a win!! And they accept AMEX =] read more

We wanted to check out a true brasilian restaurant and found a real gem right next to the botanical garden in a great upscale neighborhood. Puro offered fantastic meat dishes (we did not try the fish courses) and were amazed by the taste of all the appetizers, starters and entrees we tried. Local side dishes and touches made the already tasty courses even better. Cool and cozy athmosphere with friendly staff. Highly recommended. read more

This lovely little restaurant sits on a busy corner which makes drop off or pick up a little trickier. It's a popular place but we were able to get seated for an early dinner without a problem. They took us up to the third floor which I imagine wouldn't be possible for the elderly. You pass by the bar, the kitchen with an open window to the staircase, and finally at the top there is indoor and a outside patio seating. We opted for the enclosed patio because the air was fresh and we weren't fans of the over-air conditioning. Since it rained early, the covers were drawn but the lighting was nice and it was a little quieter outside. There was only one guy in his phone the whole time, but at least he wasn't too loud. The menus came rubber banded to a bamboo board with their name laser carved in it. We heard about the stuffed pão de queijo and wanted to try that as an appetizer. It definitely lived up to its reputation- absolutely delicious. Tender pulled pork with soft pao de queijo is an excellent combination. They also have an assortment of drinks. The Brasilera was delicious (a combination of local fruit juices and vodka) and also comes with the option of non-alcoholic. They have Jeffrey's beer available and an extensive wine list with plenty to chose from by the glass. The grilled octopus was amazing, grilled to a crispy perfection with bacon potato and a light salsa of diced tomatoes. The potatoes were underwhelming but the presentation of the dish was impressive and the rest was quite filling. The artisanal burger was also quite tasty, with a grilled bun that was unfortunately too soft of a bread to hold together to eat the burger. Other then that, the flavor was delicious. The service was good, they attempted to adjust the air conditioning to suit everyone's needs (which they ended up turning off in the end) and it's a great place for a romantic date or a fancy meal. read more

My husband and I celebrated our first year anniversary at Puro and had a wonderful experience. The waitstaff was attentive and the food was delicious. The octopus was the best dish of the night. (You know how sometimes you order octopus but instead served a rubbery garden hose? Well, the octopus at Puro is nothing like that.) I also loved the cocktails. The flavors were mild and after a year of sharp caipirinhas, a nice change of pace. And although we were celebrating, other tables were more casual. An older couple splitting appetizers and an entree. A trio of young adults with MacBooks talking over drinks. Side note: the chef, Pedro Siqueira, just won chef revelação of Veja magazine's annual COMER & BEBER 2016 awards. I'm not sure what chef revelação means (translates to revelation chef?) but it's probably a good thing. :) read more

This brand new restaurant in JB is quite promising. Nice ambiance in an attractive three storied house. Service was very attentive and quick, a rare thing here in RIO. Our appetizers were quite good, we ordered the rice croquettes and the varied roots chips with cheese. For a main dish I ordered the matured steak with baroa potato, simple dish but quite good and flavorful. The only major drawback are the desserts, none are inviting. We ordered two to share, the pão de mel with chocolate and the sweetened rice with dulce de leche. Expensive and small, the chocolate desert was hard and uninspired and the sweetened rice was bland, heavy on the clove, dry and very cold ... there was barely any dulce de leche, the only actual sweet thing in the dish. This one we sent back, it was basically inedible. But all in all it was a pleasant experience, will be back ... I just won't order any desserts. read more

We stumbled by this gem after a trip to jardim botanico - and when I say stumbled I mean yelped, and when I say after a trip to jardim botanico I mean I meant to go, but right before crossing the gates realized I was too hungry and skipped to the meal. hashtagpriorities. Anyhow, we found this place on yelp when deciding to forego the gardens for an al fresco lunch, and as we saw it from the outside we knew this was the right decision. The place is adorbs. There are two outside tables in this quaint little patio and little did we know, but this little oasis was going to serve us some food that was absolutely divine. We started with a grilled ravioli that looked like 4 little pamonhas (or tamales, which by the way are pretty darn similar if you haven't noticed, but I digress). They were filled with fresh mushrooms and I wish I could have had ten. Instead I had one and moved onto the main course. The duck for two comfortably serves three, and although succulent and delicious, I did not expect it to be served cooked in a Dutch oven (la creuset style). As a result it didn't have that nice sear that I've come to love, but it did have flavor, and it was served with scrumptious sides that were adorably served in baby Dutch ovens. Dessert, in the form of dark chocolate mousse with olive oil and fleur de sel, was likely my favorite course. Added to flawless service by waiters that clearly aim to please, it was such a great meal I forgot about the gardens altogether (the easy drinking wine didn't help in that dept either, but that's neither here nor there).
