She tied a band around my good leg, my good foot, held it tight and told me to turn my ankle without turning my leg, I told her it was hurting all the way up to my thigh. She said that's OK. You're using muscles. You haven't used before. She continued to do this regardless of me telling her it was uncomfortable and I was getting a Charlie horse in my upper thigh. We did this for one minute One Direction one minute the other direction pulling against that band that she was holding tight. When I left and went to get in my car, my knee was bothering me to step up into my car by that afternoon. My knee was aching and by that night, I could hardly walk. I have an appointment this morning with the orthopedic surgeon as it has kept me awake at night and I can't walk my dog. She's done something to my good knee that didn't have a thing wrong with it before I came in would never recommend this place!

Hearing that, from your doctor that you've seen over and over again and after doing physical therapy, can leave you with a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. But after going here I realize that all that anxiety was wasted and I'm so glad that my doctor referred me to this specialist. I was scheduled for an EMG test which is basically a nerve test. It shows if you have misfiring in your nerves because of a pinched nerve and other things. This office does do other neurological tests from what I understand, but this is what I went in for. Now this test I knew nothing about until my doctor's office told me (when they gave me the referral). They told me there were needles and electricity involved and I really got freaked out. Then when I called and I made my appointment they were so kind, and said anything you may have heard about this test most of that doesn't happen here. They explained the procedure but I still googled it. That was a bad mistake. Do yourself a favor ask your doctor questions and don't ever look anything up. People post the worst stories and yes, they might have had a bad experience, but everything that I did read online about this procedure was kind of outdated. The needles that were used for my procedure were almost like an acupuncture pin. If you look it up online and there are long probes that are as thick as a safety pin and as long as your middle finger. That's why I had anxiety all day When I came in and I met Dr. Brennan he knew almost immediately what my issue was just by touching my thumb. That's what a sharp mind and 30 years of experience will do for you. Everything I told him he said was completely textbook and I was so easy and he made me feel so much better. To have an accurate diagnosis that now and MRI will confirm exactly how to treat I know that I will be better sooner than later. I'm going to keep Dr. Brennan in mind if I need to go back for any more physical therapy or any more tests and I will specifically ask for him if the occasion comes up. Hopefully I'll never have to go back or not until much much later in life.... but now that I know that all of us who do any bending twisting and lifting can have these problems, there is a solution and you will feel better.

My fears were put at ease as soon as I met Dr. Pellerito. He has a calming personality and is very patient and easy to talk to. I'm going through treatment now and I've already had success. It took a while to decide what I wanted to do and he understood my concerns and let me steer my own ship as far as what choices I had. His office staff is pleasant to interact with and the waiting room is large. Yes there are many doctors at this practice but there is still plenty of seating. I was fortunate to have my friend recommend Dr. Pellerito and it's reassuring to know that such a kind and caring doctor has my best interests in mind.

The team here are experts in the field of osteopathy, orthopedic, and sports medicine. My connection with this well known practice, is four(4) different doctors since 2015. My parents (RIP) were also patients of Dr. Andrew Ajluni for my Mother's fractured hips after falling, then my Father for his broken wrist with Dr. Michael Demers in the past 10 years at the St. Clair Shores office. Therefore = (1st & 2nd Doctors ) I became a patient of Dr. James Bookout (#3) for my left knee in early December 2018. After x-rays and a scan, it was concluded I have lack of cartilage in both my knees, left worse. The easy term is called "bone on bone" which causes swelling at the end of my busy days. In order to prolong surgery, he suggested a orthopedic knee brace for 2 months which helped greatly to re-enforce my left knee for up to 10 hours.( brace bought at Dick's sporting store with discount from Dr.) I may use the sleeve brace when kneeling for long periods of time, but not on a daily basis since the 4 gel shots have helped after 2 weeks of final appointment and injection. After 6 months he suggested an office treatment with 4 weekly 5cc gel shots back in July 2019. I will warn: It's a painful shot and needle "Sharp hit the bone" injection. I was light headed afterwards due to the excitement? NOT... my anxiety. Then 1 day of a soft ice pack 3x a day for my re-balancing. After 3 days, I was happy with my walking and enjoy my daily exercise workouts without pain or stiffness plus easy kneeling mobility. Dr. Bookout was very polite, patient with my questions and he explains in details about the knee with alternative treatments. I hope I will NOT need any future surgery but if so, he will be my choice to repair my bone loss. I am also a patient with Dr. Matthew Brewster (#4) a foot surgeon for a right bone spur which was diagnosed in November 2019. (Thanks Mom same foot she had back in 1997). Dr. Brewster has not rushed surgery and has recommended other alternative medical treatments to use. I was put on a 10 day steroid medication to help the pain and I'm using "Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel 2x a day for inflammation which has helped like liquid Advil to subsidize my pain. My last appointment was on Tuesday, March 3rd to "give in" for a 3cc shot (small needle) of cortisone into the joint area of my right big toe. It helped to get me back walking without pain and to prolong my needed foot surgery till summer time. I hope the shot will last long, but I will follow up with Dr. Brewster in late May to decide. He is so kind and helpful to ease my mind. My walking has been pain-free both inside and outside the house. I also bought a pair of special charcoal orthotic inserts from Hanson's shoes to help with my 5000/ 6000 steps daily. I highly recommend these dedicated quality surgeons in this orthopedic medical practice. The office atmosphere and staff is welcoming and the exam rooms are hygienic and private. The doctors are attentive and professional to all patients. FYI: The business card which is attached and my photos will show many other professional doctors who also practice here as well. Example: Shoulder, Hand, Knee, Foot, Hips... The receptionists at check-in are very pleasant. The assistant to the medical doctors in exam rooms are caring and attentive like the doctors. At check-out the employees are polite to conclude my appointment promptly. The practice has a great team of passionate and professionals along with staff. They are equipped with the technical medical equipment so no need to go elsewhere for radiology. They offer 2 offices in Shelby Township and St. Clair Shores. I was also pleased to get a Yelp tip from an Elite friend, who is also a patient here. Therefore As I always say and I am true in my personal opinion: "Yelpers are Helpers!" I was told my one orthopedic surgeon that I would need surgery before I would be "normal" again. I had another tell me that we could see what Physical Therapy could do in 8 weeks, and revisit the situation with surgery being on the agenda to return to normal. I write this, 6 months later, having made a tremendous recovery WITHOUT surgical intervention. With the dedication Andy and Gunnar, and the support of the entire team, they made me believe in myself, trust my body, and achieve my goal of recovering without surgery! It wasn't easy, and there were times I wanted to give up because it seemed impossible, but every time I walked through those doors, I was met with such a positive and encouraging environment that helped press forward. Andy and Gunnar were both extremely kind and charismatic, listened to what my goals were, and made sure my program would help me achieve them. I can say in some ways, I am even stronger than before my injury now. They were fantastic to work with, and I'll miss seeing them every week. I worked with most all of the techs on the team since I was there 3x a week, but Scott and Joe were who I worked most frequently with. Coming in at a pain level in my lower back at 1000+...it was (WAS) that bad. When I left after learning exercises to work at home with, my pain level was about a 5! Not bad after my first visit of therapy. I am now at my 6th session, pain level 0.5! I rate it that because I am still learning to 'empowering' myself. Raj, Reenu, Lindsay, & Barb are wonderful therapists. They really want to know HOW you feel, what your pain level is, and also ask you if you would like to try different exercises or pain therapy (such as Dry Needling). I have had dry needling, and it really helps my personal situation. The therapists will ask if you are afraid of needles. Since I am not, I can tell you, Dry Needling is not painful but very helpful. They are not really 'needles' but very fine filaments that I had inserted into my lower back. It has helped break up the stiffness in my lower back. I must say though, that if you mention another pain, they will try to ease the pain. I mentioned that I couldn't turn my neck much, Raj came in and worked wonders on my whole back (it's all connected, you know), well, I can stand straight, turn my neck. With that therapy, even my lumbar back has eased my pain to a 0! If you need physical therapy, I highly recommend the Metro Parkway site to visit for your back pain. And I say this place 'Empowers You;? I have learned good, gentle exercises to do at home. That is "YOUR" Empowerment. I would rate zero stars if I could. I hadn't even made it to the office to meet any providers recommended to me by my PCP, who told me at the time the doctor was the best in the area and specialized in the field . I had almost forgotten to leave my honest review this week but I believe it deserves to be said that after playing phone tag for three days, having my appointment rescheduled with out my permission or confirmation I had to beg to speak to the office manager Lisa-who is about as condescending as the people who work for her. What is best for the scheduling staff is what dictates when you will be seen and who you will be seeing for any life threatening procedures. Luckily after letting my general physician know of how I had been treated, I was able to a schedule to meet with a qualified surgeon who likely has less years of experience but is readily available to meet with someone who according to Lisa, doesn't present enough of an emergency for the surgeon to consult with. Lisa and her staff prevented me from meeting with Dr.McIntosh and his esteemed colleague Dr.Martinovski. When I worked as an assistant in a providers office back when I was in my early twenties, telling a patient that they will be seen when it is 'best for the office staff' or dictating who and when they should see the doctor...would get me fired on the spot. These providers happen to be surgeons and provide life saving care for the local community and based on a few bad interactions with their dispensable staff likely drives business away and mars the rapport between patients and practice. I can't imagine how disorganized the clerical staff is after having experienced their sheer disregard for my health. Who's to know how the quality of medical care will be?If you have blue care network ppo or hmo I implore you to not be discouraged - don't play phone tag and make sure you shop around. There are other practices who hire lots of better quality staff to consult with in the area. To who it may concern, I'm going to be alright thank goodness as someone who needed this procedure done soon - I will be meeting with a surgeon soon! No thanks to James, Lisa or Marina. Go ahead and try to sched an appt - the staff won't soon improve the quality of customer service they provide and I can only imagine what billing services is like after the fact.
