Came for a dental cleaning - they examined me and told me I have a ton of cavities and gingivitis. I was shocked because I've never had a cavity, and I take really good care of my dental hygiene. They showed me a treatment plan which was over $1,500 to get all the work done after insurance. I had a bad feeling about them, so I went to another dentist - turns out I have no cavities at all and I do not have gingivitis! Totally a scam They also left me alone for over half an hour while they left to see if someone was available do my cleaning (I had specifically booked a cleaning appointment), and then ultimately they said they couldn't do it that that day and tried to get me to rebook. Not to mention I had to wait a half hour after my appointment started in the lobby even though I got there early. read more

My biggest concern with this practice is the repeated surprise charges at checkout. I was charged $50 for a cancer screening that I knew nothing about until after the appointment. Nobody mentioned that it was being performed or explained the results. I was also charged $30 for "dental education/knowledge." What exactly was that charge for, and why wasn't it explained beforehand? These experiences make it seem like the goal is to upcharge and hope patients don't ask questions. Patients deserve to understand what services are being performed, why they are recommended, and what they will cost before agreeing to them. I am also concerned that I may have been billed for twice-yearly dental examinations without actually being examined by a dentist. Was a dentist reviewing and signing off on the hygienist's findings without personally examining me? I would like clarification about what was billed to my insurance and who performed those services. I have been coming here for about a year and only recently learned that Simon is a hygienist, not a dentist. He is very kind and knowledgeable, and because he developed and implemented my care plan, I assumed he was the dentist. While I appreciate his kindness, that does not resolve the lack of clarity about who was providing my care or the additional charges afterward. I will be going elsewhere. read more

Please do your research and find an actual dentist who knows what they're doing. The "luxury" does not outweigh the level of care you will get from a good family dentist. Places like this tend to upcharge and take advantage of patients. Just from my own experience, I brush twice a day and floss daily. At a six month checkup they told me I needed a deep cleaning because my gums were "bad." That didn't sit right with me so I got a second opinion. The second dentist said my teeth and gums were completely fine. It felt like they were just trying to charge me for something I didn't need. And don't even get me started on the crown that broke after only a year and a half. When I went back, they would not do anything to help or replace it. read more

I highly (!) recommend getting a second opinion before getting dental work done at this place. Everyone is nice, accommodating, and explain things throughout. However, I was told I needed crowns, I had periodontis, I had 6+ cavities. I was left with a quote of over $1200. Something didn't feel right--I went to a different dentist for a second opinion and I'm glad I did. He did not agree with Pure Dental Spa. I'm inclined to believe the person is who isn't trying to make a profit, but rather care about the person who is in the chair. read more

My boyfriend had an unprofessional experience. Dentist told him he needed a crown for a tooth. This involved an initial appointment, a temporary crown and the actual crown, so three appointments total and roughly ~1500 dollars. Between the temporary and actual crown, he experienced tooth pain and communicated that to the dentist. After the crown, the pain increased. He went back to the dentist a week after the crown to address the pain, and the dentist said he needed a root canal, and should have had a root canal to start with. The dentist said it was my boyfriends fault for not expressing how bad the pain was. This has been such a frustrating experience. My boyfriend has to go back for a 4th time for the root canal, a 5th time for a new temp crown and a 6th time for the final crown, and ~3000 dollars total. The dentist should have known if he needed a root canal initially, AND the dentist blamed my boyfriend for the whole situation. Soooo much time and money wasted. read more

The staff was so welcoming and did a great job explaining what we would do and the results or findings of the exam. They were great at also talking through costs and alternative paths forward with treatment. I never enjoy going to the dentist but I think this experience might change that in the future. read more

You're going to read this review and think "this is weird, there's no way anyone actually enjoyed a dental visit," and that makes sense. BUT I'm absolutely blown away by this place. The space was clean and inviting. The front desk was very nice and very helpful. The wait was nonexistent. Simon was awesome and knowledgable and his passion shines through in the work he does. Dr. Lee went above and beyond at every step. The exam was easy and made all the easier by AMENITIES AT THE DENTIST? Come on. It's hard to say whether I've just exclusively seen bad dentists in the past and this team is just good, but I have a feeling that I have seen pretty good dentists and this team is amazing. I was originally at the West Loop location (which is also great) but switched to the Lincoln Park location as soon as it opened as it's closer to my home. Had my first visit with Simon and Dr. Lee. They were great! I was seen for TMJ issues and my annual cleaning. Simon walked me through the entire exam and explained what he was checking for in each step. Then he pulled up the pictures of my teeth to explain any issues. I've never had anyone do that before. It was so helpful and clear! Dr. Lee was also very nice and explained things well. The office also contacted my insurance beforehand and showed me the breakdown of my plan and estimated costs for that visit and future ones. Everything was so clear. Recently switched dentist as I am still working remotely and I am so glad I did so. Pure Dental Spa is HIGHLY recommended. The staff was absolutely delightful and they really made me feel comfortable. They stay true to their name and the look of the office is not clinical at all and they offer awesome complimentary services. It's like getting two deals for one. My visit was for a general cleaning and Dr. Patel and her staff made me feel comfortable (never thought I would genuinely say this for a dentist appointment) and explained every steps to me along the way. Pure Dental Spa has a wonderful office, very clean and is aesthetically pleasing. The location is easy to get and very convenient if you live downtown. Dr. Lee explained in great detail what the issues were with my teeth and the solutions. I was never in the dark about what needed to be done to return my teeth to some sort of normalcy. No call. It's been a week now with nobody reaching out. So, I found a different dentist. I used to go to their West Loop location, but I moved, so I switched to this location. It's conveniently near the L, and I was easily able to find parking on the street during the day. They were so nice and welcoming. I love the extra perks, like a paraffin hand wax, water, tea, etc. Dr. Lee was great and so was my hygienist. They walked me through what I needed to do to improve my dental health, what any additional costs might be for other procedures, and answered any questions I had. I love that they present you with the costs upfront, so you aren't stuck with any surprise bills that insurance doesn't cover. I'll definitely stick with them! read more

I have been going to this dental office since it first opened. Simon the hygienist is quick and efficient and a good conversationalist. I almost look forward to going to the dentist. Because I am fortunate to have great teeth, I haven't had too much interaction with Dr. Lee but she and all the staff have been attentive and caring. I don't have dental insurance yet this practice has been affordable (and they have their own plans you can purchase to cover the basics to save you a little bit on your cleanings, X-rays, etc). They have not tried to sell me things I don't need whereas another dentist I saw insisted I was in immediate need of gum surgery. Like any business they will offer you extras (such as a fluoride treatment) but just decline anything you don't think you need. Highly recommended. read more

Historically, I have HATED going to the dentist, but this experience was nothing but positive. Dr. Lee and Nina were exceptional as well as the two kind women at the front desk.
