I love Pure Barre. Yes its expensive, but its a fun class that goes by super quick, with great music, and you get great results. I've been going since September anywhere from 2-4 times a week depending on the package I have at the time. The instructors are great. My favorites are Noelle, Marissa, and Rori. The warm-up is typically the same besides when they switched it up in January. It's a lot of core work. Then you go through a set of exercises for your arms, thighs, seat, and abs, with stretching in between. I've noticed the biggest difference in my arms and abs. Just posted pictures on fb from vacation, and I got multiple comments about how good my arms looked. I've also definitely lost inches from my thighs. I do a lot of cardio, and this is the perfect way for me to mix in some toning work without having to just lift weights at the gym. There are about 7 or 8 women from my office that go to PB classes pretty religiously, and we all love it. The noon class is especially nice for getting a break from the office.

I'm borderline obsessed with Pure Barre. I bought the socks, a bag and a nalgene. I've started a pinterest board of poses and I just about talk about Pure Barre at any time I can fit it into conversation with friends. Maybe I'm not so borderline... maybe I've fully crossed over the line. This is an hour long workout that goes by super quick. The music is fun and upbeat. With the variety of poses they offer in each class it seems like you hold the pose long enough that your muscles are shaking uncontrollably but switch it up often enough that the hour flies by. Instructors are all different so when you find a few that their style you prefer - stick with them. Erin, Rachel and Noelle are my favorite. I attend mostly early morning classes and they seem to be the instructors for those time slots... which makes me a very happy camper at 6:15am! The classes are through an online sign up. I've not had much of a problem getting into class. Most of the time even if I'm on the waitlist I end up right in the class. I have one minor thing (which I've seen on other yelpers reviews) that I must mention... they don't have showers. So (for me) I still have to run home before going somewhere else afterwards (work, dinner, happy hour, etc). I will also mention I think this is a fabulous workout to tone, sculpt and lift (as Pure Barre says) but I believe most people will also need another aerobic workout. Although I find all my sculpting needs at Pure Barre I still need to have a good run or spin class in addition . I'd love it if Pure Barre did more with their playlists. Maybe post them on their website or facebook page? No phones are allowed in class - so I can't shazam songs I don't know but would like to buy. Really nothing but yourself, waterbottle and maybe a towel are allowed. Things you'll need to know if you have never been to class... bring socks to wear (preferably ones with grippy stuff on the bottom) and nice workout clothes. The nice workout clothes aren't necessary... but when you look around in class, you'll wonder if Lulu sponsored the whole place. As for the price - it aint cheap. Look for deals and steals online. They're hard to come by but I was able to find one that worked for me. Tuck, Tuck Hold, Tuck, Tuck Freeze.

It reminds…read moreme of Vira Yoga in SoHo, the first yoga studio I ever practiced in, which has long since closed but still sits in my memory as a certain kind of downtown wellness institution: essentialist rooms, serious teachers, and no need to announce its own taste. Thrive has a similar quality. It feels built from real experience rather than from a brand deck. Hally has clearly created this place with care and precision, and it is a gift to see a local Rittenhouse operator build something this thoughtful in Philadelphia. The studio is consistently clean, the desk team has always been professional, and the whole operation feels calm and well-held. The clientele adds a lot to the atmosphere, too. They seem like people who have been all over the world and seen the full continuum of people, places, and things, but would never tell you that; they just absorb it. I especially want to give real credit to Lisa Grunberger, one of the wisest yoga teachers I have ever encountered. My yoga journey started with Elena Brower, and Lisa reminds me of that same era of teachers: deeply wise about physiology, a lifelong student of the practice, and unusually perceptive about life. She embodies yoga in a way that feels earned, not performed. There is something very moving about watching someone age gracefully while still working hard to stay current, flexible, and fully alive in the work. Lisa's music deserves its own mention because it is extraordinary. Her class soundtracks map to an era just before music became fully digitized, when taste still had to be gathered, carried, and lived with over time. The tracks are rich, discerning, and never forced. I have had so many moments in her Friday midday class where I hear something and think, "Oh my gosh, this song is amazing" because the music is not just background; it quietly deepens the whole experience. Life and budget have shifted, so I have not been back to Thrive recently, but I know I will return when I can. Thrive has that low key, sophisticated, quietly chic feeling that never seems to be trying to sell itself. It feels more like an academy and a commune than a business, which is rare for a city studio. I admire what Hally has built here, and hope to return soon! Note: There appear to be two Yelp pages for the same business, listed as Thrive Pilates & Yoga and Thrive Pilates. I'm posting this review on both to avoid confusion.

When we arrived at 11:50, the kittens were still not there. They were brought in by Morris Animal Refuge. All the proceeds from the class went directly towards the needs of the refuge. Once we were settled in and the kittens got acclimated, our instructor, Heather, gave some background about Morris Animal Refuge. She stated it was a beginner level class and there wouldn't be a need for props. The class was actually pretty fast paced for beginner level! Heather said she would conclude five minutes early to give us a chance to take photos and spend time with the cats. The cats were amazing, but I wish there were more of them. They mostly hung around at the front of the studio but the volunteers from Morris would grab them and bring them around so everyone had a chance to see them. There were a lot of people in attendance for just a few cats. Amrita provided a clean and pleasant environment and a comfortable temperature for the class.

A lot to unpack at this new-to-me class. I've taken a pretty wide variety of chain fitness classes: was an OrangeTheory girly for a while, have taken Barry's, PureBarre, pilates, you name it. I like the opportunity to try new things as it keeps me curious about my body and fitness, so stopping by solidcore with zero knowledge or expectations seemed like the move. This is a reformer-based class that moves FAST - be prepared to live in the struggle and accept it. The instructor did an awesome job explaining the machine to me before class, but the pace is relentless. Which I think is why many folks find this so addicting! I was sore for 3 days after this class and cannot imagine a faster (or more painful, frankly) path to some serious strength gains, given that this workout is resistance based and choose-your-own-adventure intensity. The kicker is cost. When looking at membership details (I attended on a classpass trial) I was pretty shocked to find that 5 classes would set you back ~$170. Not something that's in my budget, but I absolutely recommend trying class and seeing if it's for you. Thanks to the team here for the great experience!

This personal approach to Classical Pilates is very effective and worth your time, effort, and money. I had attended group Pilates classes before and it wasn't the same- or even close. From the time, Brie (the owner/head instructor) returned my phone call, I knew that I would like her energy and enthusiasm. But now I can honestly say-Brie is my hero. I didn't know what to expect so I didn't have any particular thoughts before arriving. I walked in and saw several stations with different types of equipment. My only thought was-"She doesn't really expect me to be able to use any of this." . So I admit it I was nervous, embarrassed, and thought about running out of there before my session started. But Danielle (the receptionist) was good because she answered my questions and checked on my while I waited. She also was very positive and friendly. So I decided to stay. . Brie was great. She kept talking to me and encouraging me through out the session. I worked as hard if not harder than I do when I do cardio at the gym. But it was better. My back felt good at the end. The other people there were good too. They mention not to laugh even though one of them was a dancer. In any case, it was excellent. Brie was great. She didn't even seem to mind my buckets of sweat. Thanks for recommending it Paige and Anthony.

Oh, and they also offer a multitude of messages, which I hope to be testing out soon! This studio is beyond compare! I've taken dance classes since I was three years old (at prestigious schools such as Point Park), and the belly dance classes I have taken here rival any and all in my experience. The instructors level of professionalism and knowledge is amazing, but what I like best is the "comfort" level. Classes are filled with beginners through experienced and professional dancers. I'm intermediate level, but am not deterred by the experienced or beginner dancers. I won't analyze it, I'm just going to say that it works! As for the atmosphere, cozy comes to mind. There are mirrors everywhere (like a real ballet studio), which are essential for gaging body position. Another great aspect is the price: $12 per class; $10 per class (10 class minimum); $9 per class (20 class minimum). You can't beat those prices anywhere!!! One great perk is that, if you buy 10 classes, you can use those however you want. For example, take 3 belly dance classes, 2 yoga classes, 2 pilates classes, and 3 fitness classes (or some other combo). And, if you miss a class, you don't have to pay for it. It really is the best deal around!

Multiple instructors were condescending and openly shaming when I was clearly trying my best. As a beginner, having my form corrected repeatedly out loud, over and over, in front of the entire class was embarrassing and unnecessary--especially when I wasn't at risk of injury. It also slowed the class down for everyone else. There are gentle, respectful ways to help beginners. This studio does not use them. One instructor put her hands on me after I explicitly asked her not to. When I reiterated that boundary, she took offense rather than respecting it. That alone should be unacceptable in any fitness setting. Because of these experiences, I paused my membership for two months. Due to a recent unemployment, I then submitted a written cancellation request 33 days before my next billing cycle. The cancellation form provides no confirmation or record, so I took screenshots. I followed up weekly. After weeks of silence, I was told to "allow three weeks for processing." Despite this, I was still charged. When I followed up again, the manager (Lauren) responded with the claim that members cannot cancel while on pause--a policy that does not appear in the contract or in any published studio policies. When I challenged this and cited the terms, I received no response. I ultimately had to file a dispute with my bank to reverse the charges. Between the shaming instructional style, disregard for personal boundaries, poor front-desk support, and what I consider deceptive and unethical billing practices, this studio is not trustworthy. If you are a beginner, or if you expect transparent, ethical business practices--do not join this studio.
