I have visited El Salvador in Central America and loved the pupusas, so I was happy to discover Pupusas To Go right here in the RGV. The building, located on "I" Road (Veterans Blvd), in between Eldora Rd and Sioux Rd in Pharr is not large, but hard to miss with the bright yellow color. There is private parking in front. Once inside you find a clean, pristine dining room in the colors of the Salvadoran flag, white and blue. You can order at the counter if ordering take out, or sit at a table for dine in and the lady will take your order there. Their menu offers more than pupusas. They also have tamales, empanadas, plantains, breakfasts with eggs, and more. But I wanted to try their pupusas, and two were big enough to make a meal for me. If you are really hungry you may be able to eat three. The pupusas came hot to order (you choose the filling you want), and were delicious. They are freshly made from scratch, so it may take a few minutes, but is worth the wait. The pupusas come with a side bowl of "curtido" (slightly pickled cabbage slaw) which you put on top. They also brought out a very mild tomato salsa and some green hot salsa. I loved all of it. The prices are very reasonable. The staff was very friendly, courteous and efficient. This restaurant is family friendly. There was a TV playing a telenovela, but not too loud. Because seating is limited, I would not recommend dining in for large groups, but their take out would certainly be a unique and delicious option for large groups. I would like to return to try some other fillings and entrees. I enjoyed it and think you will too! read more

Food is good. People are kind. Although the place has 2 ac splitters, it's hot and humid. If you are dining in, your in for a +45 minute wait time (you'll probably order a few drinks before you get your food. Only four tables. But the frustrating part is the wait time. They take a very very very long time. read more

Pupusas to go looks like a hole in the wall, but don't underestimate it! The Pupusas are very tasty! I had some cheese, loroco, and chicharrón Pupusas, and each was better than the last. Most Salvadorean joints make their chicharrón filling flavorless, but these were perfectly seasoned and hit the spot just right. I also had some Yucca and Chicharrón which was warm, fried and crispy. Lastly, their plantains were sweet and the crema that accompanied them was salty and nicely complemented the dish. Take a loved one, or even a hated one, you may end up besties after tasting their great food. read more

the food and service here are both great!! everytime I'm in the upper valley I always make it a point to stop here and buy pupusas:)

I'm from Los Angeles and from EL Salvador so I have had my share of salvadorean food , namely pupusas, I was visiting family in the area and ran across this jewel, typical ambience of the restaurants in El Sal, humble, cozy and yummy. The green Chile salsa cinched the deal !! If you are a pupusa enthusiast it's a must do read more

One of our favorite spots! Always great food, we prefer take out so we can eat from the comfort of our house. The only thing is that they do not have rice pupusas but it is very difficult to find some if its no in El Salvador. Recommend everything from the menu! read more

This place is fantastic! It's a small Salvadoran restaurant that serves authentic pupusas as well as tamales and pastelitos (meat pies). I highly recommend a loroco and cheese pupusa as well as the pan con pollo (chicken sandwich). I've never been disappointed and I wish more people could come and try this hidden gem. Salvadoran food is truly a gift from God. read more

1st time ever trying pupusas. Came here on the recommendation of fellow Yelpers. I went in person to order to go & informed the waitress I had never tried this. She explained they are basically gorditas just larger & flatter w/no opening & minced meat instead of chopped. Apparently they don't have the combos anymore so I ordered 3 pupusas & actually ended up sharing w/3 other people as an appetizer. There's a lil wait for your food but, only cause they make 'em fresh to order (who doesn't appreciate that?). The slaw is ok but, better when you get a piece of jalapeno in it. The green salsa is delicious & tops it all off perfectly. I'm looking forward to coming back & trying their other items. FYI, parking is a bit tricky! read more

I remember the first time my husband and I came to eat at Pupusas To Go. We were kind of second guessing ourselves because the building is nothing to write home about. We are both so glad that we decided try it. Because we had never eaten Salvadoran food, we were unfamiliar with the menu. The lady at the pick up window was very helpful and offered suggestions. She was also very patient and we never felt rushed when ordering. I ordered a cheese pupusa and my husband ordered 2 with meat, cheese and beans. The pupusas come with salsa and a pickled slaw. The food was very fresh and the flavor was savory! The price was also very reasonable at about $4 a pupusa. We will definitely be back as well as recommend this establishment to others. read more

A friend of mine and I ate lunch here. The food was delicious, the pulpusas, the cabbage relish, and the dessert we tried. I had one of the pulpusas stuffed with cheese and beans. My friend had one with cheese and some sort of flower. The cabbage relish was perfect. For dessert, we both had ripe plantains stuffed with a type of crema, raisins and topped with cinnamon. Wonderful! The was friendly, but our waitress only spoke Spanish. Fortunately, my friend was bilingual. Later, the manager arrived, and he was very nice, helpful and spoke English perfectly. The bathroom was having problems that day, but hopefully, that has been taken care of. I will be back. read more

I tried a couple of times in their previous location and they were always delicious. Now we came for the first time to the new one and had the same great experience. But this time we ate at their restaurant. Tried chicharron and loroco popusas. Loved them. Their pasteles (empanadas) were also very good. Prices are reasonable. The banana dessert was ok. Will definitely come back again! read more

Never had popusas, but this is the place to go to. Really good service, food may take a while because they are made from Scratch. read more

We hadn't been here since they moved from their previous location in McAllen but we were finally in the area so we stopped by. The Pupusas were just as delicious as they were but they now sell them individually so I felt like our lunch experience was more expensive than what we expected. The empanadas were delicious and these are definitely the most authentic Pupusas in the valley. read more

Saw this place on here and had to give it a try! This place serves mainly food to go but we enjoyed our meal outdoors on the patio. They did take awhile but are made to order so it's to be expected. I ordered a pollo con queso pupusa and a revuelo with chicarron, queso and beans. They were served hot and very good! We ordered their combo A at $6.99 which isn't a bad price! It came with 2 pupusas, chips and a drink. They food was very filling! We enjoyed out meal here, I will come back when I'm in the area. read more

This place was recommended in the news. Thought it will be a good as the described it, but not at all. The food took a long time to come out. While we waited the "Manager" or man in the front talked about other customers in a negative way. I got tired of his negative remarks about every customer that order or came in previously. When we got our food the Masa was uncooked. There was no flavor at all. When we were ready to pay I asked the man my total. He said "cash or credit" I then asked for my total again. Three times I had to ask. He finally rudely responded that it was more to pay with credit card. I paid with cash. His attitude was just horrible. Never again eat there. My mother came out with an upset stomach. Bye! His response was. Correct! BYE! Never again! read more

Come try this place! It's awesome! Mostly to go, although there are some tables outside. This is pretty much just good Salvadorian street food. I love that the valley is finally expanding it's culinary horizons (who doesn't love Mexican but for a long time we didn't have anything else. The pupusa revuelta is awesome and the pastelito de carne is amazing. The combos are good deals, basically 2 items, slaw, chips, and a drink. You probably won't need the chips though because the food is very filling. McAllen is lucky to have this place. read more

Haven't had pupusas in years since I left Cali... This place is awesome!! Expect a little bit of a wait since everything is made to order. Like another reviewer said, they're very similar to gorditas. They run $2.99 a piece but they're really good sized. Friendly staff and excellent food!! Hope this place is around for a long time!! read more

This is by far the best pupusas ive ever had! Friendly owners and wonderful cooks! Im from Houston and im down here for work, and let me tell you ive been coming here 2-4x a week! Yes this place is amazing! There's two ladies that run this joint and they don't speak English but thankfully yo hablo poquito espanol. Anyhow, my go to pupusa is the chicharrones y queso. They are made fresh so be prepared to wait! At 3.25 a pop they're pretty affordable and one can fill you up. They also have meals where it's a bit cheaper but they come with drink and chips so I only ordered a la carte. Anyhow, definitely worth a visit read more

Love this place! I keep coming back when I am craving Pupusas, the cheese and beans are to die for!

Great customer service and even better food. I recently stumbled upon Pupusas to Go and I come to find out it's still a new restaurant but with the quality of food I expect it'll be around for a while. Been here three times and on my last visit this past Saturday I ordered two tamales salvadoreños and three Pupusas. The tamales were big and the masa was flavorful and the chicken was nice and tender, by far the best food I've tasted in the Valley. Ohh yeah the Revuelta pupusa is the highlight all day long. Definetly recommend it. read more

The best place for Popusas. The Valley has no other better place. From the service to the food. AmaZingly super delicious.

Finally!! A pupuseria in the RGV!! This is a typical salvodorian dish!! Pupusas are some what similar to gorditas for those of you that haven't had pupusas.. This place is a small shack.. You will wait a bit for them since these are not frozen and are made when ordered. The price is pricey in my opinion.. A pupusa is normally 1.29 to 1.50 at the highest,. They're priced at 2.99 each here. They make the pupusa pretty big so 2 should fill you up.. I also bought the empanadas de leche which were delicious!! Everything was very tasty and can't wait to go back and try the tamales!! I just wished they had ensalada!! read more

The pastel de carne was great. The popusa revuelta was good. The pastel de platano con crema was pretty tasty. And last, the tamal was so good! Will soon be back to try other tasty treats. read more

This is should be a quick stop to great food, but it is not as quick as you'd like. That's due in part to the food being so delicious you can't want to eat it! It's the only place I know in town with authentic popusas. The owners are very friendly and prices are reasonable. Portions are really big! Wish it were closer to home to go there more often and try their whole menu. read more

I'm gonna keep it short and sweet. The pupusas are delicious, that cabbage/carrot side is the best thing ever. It does have some wait time since everything is made from scratch and when you order, but it's worth the wait. Most people order to go. 10/10 read more

This is an alright restaurant. I did not try the Pupusas but if they were as good as the beef than they're really good. I also liked the rice. The building is definitely not anything fancy so don't expect waiters in tuxedos. The reason I gave this restaurant a 3 out of 5 is because the service isn't fast (After all, the restaurant does have "To Go" in the title). Also, the food is not authentic Salvadorian food. It doesn't state anywhere that it is but it should be. Overall, this establishment gave me an okay experience. I might not come again. read more

This is one of my favorite take out places when I am looking for some comfort food....Yes pupusas (I like the spinach with cheese and the bean and cheese) with the curtido provides a nostalgic/ sentimental value of a life I lived in Central America, but I digress.... The workers (possibly owners) offer fast no nonsense service along with their delicious food that is made to order. The usual wait time is 10-20 minutes. I am also a fan of the empanadas de platano con crema de leche when I am seeking a dessert. If you are looking for something different and do not mind that it is not the healthiest option out there....consider Pupusas to Go, you will not be disappointed. read more

It was quiet delicious! And the food was made fresh and hot which I loved! I cannot wait to go back!
