This is one of the best Indian places around! They've only been open since December 1st of 2022, but we think they have the best buffet in the New Orleans area! For about $20, you get to eat their daily lunch buffet, which was fantastic both times that we've been here! You definitely get the most bang for your buck here. The buffet menu differs each day, but they have items such as: *Dosa *Pokoras *Chicken or goat curry *Tandoori chicken *Butter chicken *Chicken kabob *Saag paneer *Lamb curry *Fried fish *Biryani *Daal *Shahi Paneer *Carrot or pinapple halwa *Jalebi *A whole selection of sauces, chutneys, and pickles and so much more that I cannot remember! Every item was well seasoned and delicious. All of the meats were so tender and juicy. Really cooked to perfection. The buffet is refilled constantly (because it's so popular here), and it looks clean too. The décor and set up of the tables is also nice - plenty of space.

Lunch buffet! Delicious! Chai was great too!

I tried the buffet. I've been reading about and it was all delicious. The curry was spicy. The hot chai tea was just what I wanted. I'll be back and I highly recommend part of me it to others!

I was pretty impressed by the food at Punjabi Dhaba! I went for the first time this past weekend with some of my friends to try their lunch buffet. The restaurant is out in Kenner, but the drive is worth it to get authentic Indian food at a reasonable price which can be pretty hard to find in New Orleans. Someone in our group had dietary restrictions//allergies and the owner came out to help explain each dish to ensure that they would be able to eat from the buffet. The buffet consisted of classical Indian dishes, but it also had specialty dishes such as Methi Matter which impressed me. They also make fresh dosas with sambar during the buffet period. Overall, it was excellent find in New Orleans for great Indian food!

Coming to post in the light of Mr. Negi's passing to highlight just how wonderful this place is- not only is the food authentic in a way that uses spices that made my parents reminisce about their childhood dishes growing up in India, but Mr. Negi and his team always made an effort to make every guest at the restaurant feel welcomed by personally greeting them and spending at least 2-3 minutes at each table. His hospitality combined with the fun decor made and continues to make this place more special than the average Indian restaurant in a way that stays true to its roots with the food and hospitality. For the food, tandoori chicken is never dry and has the perfect spice level. Same goes for the kabobs that are clearly all baked to perfection in their custom tandoor. Paneer dishes are always on point and a favorite is the appetizer. Buffet quality is always on par with dinner service. And definitely definitely recommend the rasmalai trifle with a side of masal chai to end the meal. One of the most unique and perfectly executed desserts I've ever had an Indian restaurant. Highly highly recommend this place for the amazing food that's made with a lot of love from a talented team. I also catered a 75-person event with them and the food was personally delivered in warmers and was a hit at the party. Portions were more than generous and pricing was very competitive. Thank you for bringing your joy to our little town Mr. Negi, you will be missed.

I've been here twice. Once with takeout and once in person. The staff are friendly but they're still ironing out service issues. When I ate in person we got the wrong food twice, and it was a super long wait, the staff was not well informed on what came with each item. When I ordered takeout they weren't sure if the order was mine, either. But the food is delicious and it's the first time I've enjoyed and even craved Indian food. The spicy level is never the same any time I order the same thing but the food is good and staff are friendly. The garlic naan is awesome. I will definitely go back and hopefully they'll iron some more of the kinks out

An Absolute Gem in New Orleans…read more I was introduced to this restaurant back in 2019, and ever since then, it has remained hands down the BEST Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at not just in New Orleans, but anywhere. I've tried multiple Indian spots across the city, and while some are good, none of them compare to this one. The flavors here are authentic, bold, and unforgettable. Every dish is cooked with so much care that you can taste the tradition and quality in every bite. The samosas are the best I've had crispy, golden, and perfectly spiced. And the biryani? Without a doubt, the BEST in New Orleans. I've tasted biryani at different places, but nothing comes close to the balance of flavor, aroma, and authenticity that they serve here. The environment is another thing that makes this place special. It's always clean, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the service makes you feel like family. Of course, like any restaurant, there can be small kitchen slip-ups if the usual chefs aren't there but even then, the food still outshines everything else you could find in the area. This isn't just a restaurant it's an experience. Every visit feels like comfort food at its highest level. If you're looking for authentic Indian flavors, especially biryani that will make you rethink what biryani should taste like, you NEED to try this place. Honestly, it's some of the best food I've had in my entire life. Highly, highly recommended!

As someone of Indian heritage who has eaten at Indian restaurants across the country and abroad, I do not offer five stars lightly. The Tandoori Chicken Tikka is the best I have ever had -- anywhere, full stop. The char is perfect, the marinade deeply fragrant, and the chicken impossibly tender. This dish alone is worth crossing the city for. The Chicken Biryani was layered and fragrant, with each component perfectly spiced yet cohesive. The Malai Gosht was rich and silky -- a quietly elegant dish that lingers on the palate. The Palak Paneer was vibrant and fresh, nothing like the heavy renditions found elsewhere. The Bullet Naan -- marketed as "eat at your own risk" -- delivered on its promise. Bold, building heat that commanded attention, but never reckless. Paired with a curry, it was outstanding. The Falooda dessert was a perfect finish: cooling, fragrant, and beautifully presented. The wine list was surprisingly decent for an Indian Restaurant. We enjoyed the Brunello! And the service -- led by Manager Aman -- was over the top in the best possible way. Warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in every guest's experience. The hospitality matched the kitchen's excellence at every turn. LuFu Nola is a must-visit. Easily the best Indian food in New Orleans.

Having said that, I've also traveled a lot internationally and have had the pleasure of tasting Indian food that has been on a whole other level of deliciousness. I only became aware of Mantra Indian Cuisine about a year ago after visiting a medical facility in that area and it instantly became my favorite Indian Restaurant. For the items that I usually get, Mantra was head and shoulders better than any other local Indian cuisine I've ever tried and by a lot. When I saw a few months ago that they temporarily closed and that there was a split which ended up with this Metairie location (now Mantra "Original" Indian Cuisine) re opening recently and another Mantra Indian Cuisine opening soon in Mandeville, I was concerned that I may lose access to the best Indian food in town. Well, today I went to try the newly re opened and re named Mantra Original Indian Cuisine at the same location at 3116 S I-10 Service Rd W, Metairie, LA 70001to see how the food was. I am happy to report, at least for my palate, that for the items that I normally order, the food was exactly the same and just as good as before. I noticed no difference in the taste or appearance and found everything absolutely delicious exactly as it was before. I ordered my normal: Chicken Tikka (clay oven), Chicken Tikka Masala which came with basmati rice and a plain naan. The interior looked pretty much the same to me as before. The service was very friendly and efficient and everything was well packaged to go very well, same as before. I also became aware that they now offer a daily lunch buffet which looked really good with plenty of selections. So at least in this first experience since re opening, the food at this location was again excellent and more importantly looked and tasted exactly the same as before. If the other location that is opening up in Mandeville also maintains the same quality as before, the folks on the Northshore will be in for a great treat! I'm attaching a few pics of the items I ordered to go today.
