In general, I feel that most restaurants in France I've been to appreciate the attempt - and in many places we've been to in the countryside, the restaurant staff don't speak any English - and I manage to get by. The only reason I can think of not getting offered the limoncello is because we are American tourists. If that's the reason, it's quite disappointing. When we travel to Italy, they always appreciate that we order in our (limited) Italian - and we often get offered a post dinner limoncello or glass of wine, and owners will often come over to chat with us because they appreciate that we order in Italian. Alas, despite these owners speaking Italian, they did not show the same warmth and friendliness we receive in Italy. Despite this disappointment, the food was delicious!
