We had a…read morelist of places that we wanted to try in Epernay, but some of them are closed in Sunday and we had a bit of trouble making reservations due to the language barrier. The style and decor of this place is a bit dated, but I'm not sure if it's old or purposely done that way. When we walked in, it was empty, but it filled up quickly. I think we were pretty much ahead of all the crowds by 30 minutes everywhere we went. You have the option of 4 or 5 courses, cheese course is included with either choice. I think every table we overheard asked about portion sizes and whether they should choose 4 or 5. 4 courses is plenty of food, but you should choose the 5 cause you're in Champagne, so why not. The sauce for my langoustines was a bit too fishy for my taste, but my fish and beef dishes were both really good. And tart for dessert was delicious. The French really know how to do pastries. They don't do wine parings, so we were recommended a bottle and it went very well with the food. We did learn that the champagne that is aged in oak goes better with food. Overall a very good dining experience.

The skin was just crunchy enough.. the fish was tasty and almost buttery. Definitely not disappointed. For dessert we had a chocolate cake to split. Although I wouldn't pick this place for ambiance, I definitely would say it had great food and a nice waiting staff. Will come back if in the area!

La Lombardie - House made tiramisu made with biscuits roses de Reims

I'm not gonna lie, this probably wouldn't have been my top choice of places to go if I was choosing…read morefrom a list, but it was recommended to us by our bed and breakfast host, and she was willing to give them a call to make a reservation, so we decided to give it a try. We thought she was probably getting some sort of kick-back, but it did make deciding easier so we headed here for dinner. The booking was probably a bit superfluous as we were the only people there to start. Later, more people showed up, it's probably due to us eating earlier than most French people. Since it was summer and gorgeous outside, they sat us in their rooftop garden. It was really amazing up there. Since it was a pizzeria, we went for pizzas of course (again, not what I would probably choose as a first choice in France). We had some green salads to go with, and my partner ordered a mojito (as I was driving). The mojito was really good (and strong). At one point someone ended up picking more mint from the herb garden on the roof as well, so it's nice to know that the ingredients are really fresh. The pizzas? Fantastic. I had a foie gras pizza (because France) and the toppings were really fresh and amazing. I'd never had red currants on pizza, but I'd do it again. The crust was cracker thin, crisp and amazing. My partner had the barbeque pizza with a base of barbeque sauce and several types of meat. Also really fantastic. I was blown away. Some of the best pizza I've had. The salad were a nice touch as well. For dessert I had tiramisu made with the rose biscuits of Reims. I really enjoyed it. My partner had the ile de flotante, which was also nice, but it turns out isn't made in house (the menu did say that), so it wasn't as good as some I've had in the past. But who cares? Everything was great. The service was really good as well, which is always a plus when you're in Europe. We actually thought about trying to come back here another night, but they were closed so it didn't work out, but if you're in the area, it's definitely worth stopping in.
