When I pointed this out and asked for the room I booked they said "you have two beds what else do you want - we're booked." The room they gave me was terrible and so I decided not to even checkin. But then I needed a new hotel immediately. I checked Trip Advisor and saw this hotel had room. I called explained my situation and they had a room for us!! Then I had another bad experience with getting there and again the hotel stepped up with their customer service in helping me get my suitcases to their hotel 2 blocks down through a construction site (the driver dropped me off 2 blocks away). Not only did they get us in but the room was perfect and the location even better. We couldn't believe our good luck! One of the many pluses of the hotel is that they provide shampoo, conditioner, and soup all in the shower in dispensers in the shower. This is so much nicer than a little bottles that are given out and other hotels. Breakfast was included in the amount that we paid for the hotel. And it was a great spread of delicious items for breakfast. The view from breakfast was great too. The location. Location, location, location. This hotel is not only a block from the Port but it is also close to shopping, restaurants, a metro right next to the hotel and buses. The location is excellent! Everyone I dealt with at this hotel was nice, accommodating, and went out of their way to make our stay fantastic. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was our first time in Marseilles and absolutely loved the city's diversity, energy and vitality. As others have mentioned, Sofitel is situated on a hill with superb views of the Old Port. The view from our standard room (no balcony) was wonderful too, and I was thrilled to see beautiful fireworks over the harbor on Saturday night. (Not sure if the fireworks happen every week, maybe I just got lucky:) We ate dinner at Carré Bistromanie the first night, located on Sofitel's third floor. We booked ahead online to get a window table; the place is small and popular so reservations are recommended in any case. We both chose the daily special - roasted chicken with fresh mushrooms and fingerling potatoes - and it was the best chicken I've ever had, hands down. I've heard that making a moist tasty chicken is a good test of any chef's skills, and if this dinner was any indication the chef at Carré Bistromanie deserves an award! Lovely polite service and chill atmosphere as well. Our buffet breakfasts (included with our room rate) on the 7th floor terrace were ample, including fresh squeezed juices, eggs made to ordr and many varieties of yummy pastries. Our room was modern with a spacious bathroom and huge shower. The only downside (and it's minor) is that there were no drawers for storage. That may be an issue for a long stay, but not for us. The pool is shared with the neighboring property Novotel. I would definitely return to this Sofitel.

The paint on the walls of black and white stripes is akin to the store's outside facade. And just like Sephora, as soon as you walk in the door, the weary traveler is bombarded with the unmistakable fragrance of perfume but unfortunately, instead of it being pleasant it was the awful scent of a bad men's cologne. It's very potent. The first day when we checked in I thought it was just due to a hotel guest whose sense of smell was just dulled due to an accident with his nose. But no, it was the hotel's signature fragrance. The fragrance was there for our entire stay. Luckily, it was confined in the lobby and the rest of the floors were fragrance free. What saved the hotel was how well appointed the rest of the facility was. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom's rain shower had a strong pressure. Additionally, the daily breakfast buffet was very sumptuous. It was just well done. And the best draw was the LOCATION. It is literally steps to the port and all of the sites.

Rooms are modern-minimalist with an eye for aesthetic, yet lacking with some functionality. For example, loved having a Nespresso in the room, bed was comfortable and maid service was good. Toilet was oddly placed in a very small stand-alone room the size of a broom closet. The shower was elegant, yet the half wall of glass caused pooling of water on the bathroom floor, no matter how careful we were. No bathroom fan was also a letdown. Overall, a great hotel with friendly staff. We would stay again if we return to region, and perhaps spurge for a spa treatment!

I must admit that my expectations weren't that high when I booked my 79€ room. I assumed that it would be fine, nothing more, nothing less. Things got off on to a jolly start when I swung by an hour before check-in, expecting to have to wait in the lobby, but was warmly greeted and told that I could head upstairs right then because the room was ready! This extra hour to freshen up before some meetings was a life send. And then when I asked if there was WiFi, the woman at the desk took pen to paper and immediately wrote down the free code. Hellooo, love this place already! But that was only the beginning. Then, when my meetings at a cafe later that afternoon suddenly turned sour because the WiFI that was a crucial part of my presentation, died, I called the hotel and asked if they had a meeting room free where I could continue my presentation and they said YES, that they did, and since I just needed it for an hour, that I could have it for FREE even though it usually costs like 400€ a day!! Now that's hospitality for you. In addition to that miracle gesture of kindness, the hotel checks all of the boxes that make for a great stay: super central location, quiet room, spacious room layout, pleasant interior design, full bathroom, cool bath products (Anne Semonin, thank you very much), friendly, competent staff and...drumrolll please....a jacuzzi bathtub! I rest my case, this place rocks!!!

Had a little trouble finding parking for this hotel-as they do not provide a parking structure, and we had to find one nearby. Luckily it seems the hotel has a deal with the parking structure at which we parked, so we got a lower rate for the overnight parking. When we checked in-the reception was very helpful, providing us with a map of the city and even bumping our hotel room up from a 2 person room to a 4 person room for free so we could have extra room! The rooms were very nice and clean-a small upset was the hassle of having to redo the wifi login/registration every four hours-but at least the wifi was free.
