Adorable restaurant on the University of Iowa campus with exposed brick walls and a masculine, modern contemporary diner feel. Food 3/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Croque Madame 3/5. The hollandaise sauce with jammy egg on top was fabulous, but the sandwich itself was just ok. Garganelli 2/5. I liked the mushrooms but was disappointed that this dish was rather bland, especially for this price point.
Parking is available on the street or a few blocks away. There was no wait for a Friday morning. The breakfast food was good, and was enjoyable. The portions were okay, I am used to too much food from restaurants so the portions felt light.
The rave reviews this place had really stood up to the test. I came in questioning if it would be as good as what I've read online and it definitely was! I opted for the pork chop and had room for dessert after. The portion size was a little small so I would've liked the protein to have been paired more with a starch, but the flavors were amazing. I wanted to drink the creamy broth liquid The dish was served in by the end of it. Same with the banana foster - the caramel was out of this world. The building was a bit loud and the service was pretty casual. However, a rating based upon the food, it surpassed my expectations.
Truly amazing food! Each item was so delicious! The fries with bacon jam were honestly our favorite fries we've had anywhere. As well, the s'mores expresso I had was insanely good. I can't believe it actually tasted like a s'mores but not in an artificial way. The service was great even though it was extremely busy. We were lucky enough to sit by a front window and get to people watch as we ate.
This is a high end diner. Maybe it's just because I started rewatching The Bear, but I got the gourmet vibe here (also while hearing the chef quietly say "hands.") I'm really not up on the U of I culture but I bet this is a favorite spot. We stopped in for a late lunch because my sister LOVES their wheatberry/salmon/labneh salad. I scored a bite and agree. I went with the curried chicken salad sandwich. It was good but I was in love with the simple side salad of mixed greens and that vinaigrette! No words. The chicken salad sandwich was good but I think I would order it again without the toast and piled on top of that green salad. Service was good. I would return.
When we arrived during peak lunch time on the Saturday during the Pride parade, we were surprisingly seated right away. I enjoyed a ginormous (and delicious!) cappuccino and the Glazy Susan which was a breakfast sandwich that was so flavorful. Our waiter was quick to greet us and always made sure our drinks were filled and that we were doing alright. I had been to Pullman years back, but couldn't remember my prior experience. I will definitely remember this experience and will be returning again soon!
Casual atmosphere with a nice selection of menu options. We went with a large group and started with the pot stickers and bone marrow. The bone marrow was excellent--rich and flavorful--though I would have preferred it without the sweet bacon topping. The Pullman burger was very good, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Service was friendly and efficient, making for an overall great dining experience.
Food is high quality, diverse menu, plenty of options. All fresh! Service was friendly and attentive, eager to answer all questions. Ambiance is upscale train car dining. Perfect for dinner with friends and family.

I got the Lazy Suzan breakfast sandwich. They make their own bacon. Served on a sweet bun with garlic patoes. I not a fan of the overly sweetness of the bun and the heavy garlic in the potato. Others in our party had the French Onion Soup, which looked and tasted great. They are known for their burger and it didn't disappoint
There's some true culinary and talent behind this place. Not only do they exemplify with the open Kitchen concept, but the menu is just very well done. The Fried chicken and burgers seemed a little heavy for me as we were just driving through to Kansas City so I opted for a few things from the happy hour menu and appetizer menu. By a few, I mean five because after the first one being so good, I just kept ordering. I can't begin to explain how good of a decision. It was to stop and have an early dinner here. Service was great. To top it off five of us sitting at the counter were all chefs. Highly encourage you to check it out.

Service was extra fast, you can visually see the servers running around. Food came out kind of slow, it was busy after all. Waters never went empty. We got a double "Pullmans" burger with bacon added on, The fries were outstanding, perfectly salted and fried. Burger was a perfect We got a wings and legs with sauces, I didn't even need to try it with the sauce, they were amazingly seasoned and made my mouth water for more. We got the salmon salad, I'm not a big salad person, but it was pretty damn good. And finally the Mo Burger, the flavors were beautifully balanced. The avocado compliments the natural sweetness of the burger. And for desert we got the banana foster, it's honestly outstanding. I have no other words. Overall 10/10, better than most $200+ restaurants.
AMBIANCE: I couldn't think of a better way to spend breakfast on a warm Midwest summer morning than to spend it at Pullman's. I had been telling my twin sister about the breakfast offered at the restaurant. FOOD: She ordered the simple breakfast. I ordered the breakfast tacos. The breakfast tacos were really good! There is a lot of meat present in the taco. The only thing to note is that the dish was oily. Also, this dish comes with a lot of cheese for anyone who is lactose intolerant. Outside of that, I absolutely loved what I ordered. 10/10 will be back to try more items on the menu.

Stopped in for brunch on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. We chose to sit outside, which turned out to be a wise choice. The inside seemed very nice with lots of options to sit in a large bar with comfortable looking chairs/stools. Our server was very nice as well as all the other employees that I talked to. I had the breakfast tacos, which were highly recommended and did not disappoint. My friend got pancakes and they were to die for. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back to try more of their offerings. read more

Just a VERY GOOD ! I asked my server what I should order and was recommended the Pullman burger , it was perfect. It wasn't so big that you need a shower afterwards (I hate that) and you can actually pick it up without the inside ingredients falling apart and the flavor was on point, not overpowered by any single ingredient just a great tasting and looking burger!! Definitely overtip the staff they deserves it! read more

Started off with an old-fashioned and my GF ended up getting the black and blue drink, off of our waiters suggestion. Both were really well received and tasty great. I ordered the Croque Madame, fries and she got the fried chicken. My dinner was fantastic. My only complaint would be that it was a little light on the ham, but it was still amazing and I couldn't finish it anyways. But it had a rich béchamel sauce that was perfect for dipping their hand cut fries. SO GOOD!!!!!! (Truly one of the highlights of our night.). Tried the GF's fried chicken and quickly found out why it was an award-winning chicken. Very juicy and flavorful. As for the interior of the place, it reminds me of an upscale diner. Very cool and modern. Our server, Hank, was out of this world. Made sure to check on us, keep our drinks full and offer suggestions. In a world where good waitresses and waiters are hard to come by, he was a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to go back! Ps. After dinner, get a Pullman's gin and tonic. Really good service, amazing food, and the atmosphere was on point. I loved the dinner feel and the bar tender was super helpful. Great suggestions on food. I got a coffee and can't complain. Price for 4 was a little up there though. 5 stars read more
Pullman Bar & Diner is an Iowa City gotta-f'in-have. End of story. Full stop. Why I love it. - Service is always pretty spot on. - Menu has something for everyone-- my fav lately has been the Prince's Hot Chili Chicken Sandwich. Cooked to perfection with just enough heat. *SWOON* - The patio is a little slice of heaven in downtown IC. - Brunch is where its at-- don't skip the coffee cake or delightful Counter Culture french press. (The Irish Coffee is also a great way to start the day.) - Craft beer selection is delightful. Pricing is pretty standard. This gem is open daily and available for delivery via CHOMP. They don't take reservations and seating is limited-- it's definitely not super conducive to a large party. Park at a nearby ramp (clock tower). read more

It's a great atmosphere if you're into places that are a little noisy and a whole lot of cozy! It's a very well kept establishment that definitely gives you that downtown vibe. The thing that stood out to me most though is THE PEOPLE. The staff are an absolute joy and I love how you can talk to the chefs too while they cook. The food is great but the menu is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. That's a good thing for me because I can never make up my mind! They have a great impossible burger for my vegan and vegetarian friends out there. Lots of choices on the drink menu too. Had a great time and would definitely come back! read more

Did not know what to expect when we were walking in but it's a modern style of a diner and the music just sets the vibe. There's no TVs, so if the game is on, prolly best to go somewhere else. As for the food: we ordered the pot stickers and kitchen fries for starters. The pot stickers outshined the kitchen fries, but that's only because they were top notch. We also ordered the fried chicken with a side of the prince sauce. Arguably one of the best tasting hot sauces I've had. It does have a kick but it's not overwhelming to where you can't enjoy it. The Pullman Burger was pretty epic as well. If I had to rate the burger and chicken, I would give a very very minuscule edge to the burger. Really depends on what you're in the mood for. read more

As a "Biscuits & Gravy" connoisseur of southern heritage -- I ordered the classic -- my all time favorite biscuits & gravy -- adding a fried chicken breast with an over easy egg that was of sensational taste and spot on presentation. A few diners try to imitate this all time staple in flavor & presentation, but the Pullman Chef originated this entree that had the gravy, biscuits, egg and fried chicken breast tunneling a symphony of delightful flavors in harmony throughout my body. This diner is the real deal that allows you to select from an array of delightful choices with the aid of a wait staff that checks on you, and that delivers your food hot when it hits the window. Parking is always an issue in a downtown college town ( Go Hawks) so be prepared to do some creative looking. The menu provides a lot of reasonably priced dishes that are somewhat above average. I am still trying to understand what is a"convenience fee" that is added to the bill. My only drawback while sitting close to the windows to mid floor there were a few dead flies on the window sill which should be checked to make sure they are cleared before seating a guest. Nonetheless, the total environment was trendy with sturdy tables and cloth napkins for a casual afternoon of "me time" enjoyment. read more

Pullman is a great elevated diner experience on the U Iowa campus. It's certainly busy during peak brunch time, but the ability to get on the waitlist via Yelp makes it easy. Parking is tricky too so either plan extra time or grab a spot at one of the $1/hr parking garages around. The service was fast and pleasant, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food however was spectacular. We ordered the huevos (added pork) and the breakfast tacos (added avocado), both of which resulted in cleaned plates. The drinks from the bar were also quite tasty. I recommend the French 75. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is pretty noisy and crowded but certainly cute. If you want a bit of a quieter experience maybe try the outside seating. read more

This seems to be a place that is part of the All Star Club -- worth checking out to see if the ratings are not over inflated--each time in downtown Iowa City the parking is awful --- is there close parking?
