We did the Sled Dog Adventure in Skagway and had a great time. The dogs and puppies were super…read morecute. The dogs seemed to be in good condition, but there was some concern about their well-being in our group. Our guide was a bit avoidant with some of her answers about the dogs, such as how many puppies they have a year, what the owners do with the puppies that don't make it as sled dogs, and what happens to the sled dogs when they retire. If we had received solid answers to some of these questions, we would've felt a little better. We also drove past the living quarters of the dogs and they appeared to be chained up to individual dog houses. I know these dogs aren't "sleep on the couch at home" type of dogs, but it still made me a little curious. Some of the dogs also seemed pretty skinny. I could easily see the ribs and hip bones of some of the dogs. They did seem genuinely excited to run, so I'm hoping that they are well taken care of and I am just being extremely cautious. We also didn't have to wash our hands before handling the puppies after touching all of the other sled dogs. We weren't allowed to set the puppies on the ground because they weren't up to date on their shots (makes sense), but we were able to handle them without washing our hands first? Seemed odd. They also gave no guidance on how to hold the puppies and I saw some other guests handling them in less-than-desired ways. Our puppy was also shaking violently and crying after we held her for a few min. I understand wanting to socialize the puppies, but the younger puppies we interacted with (pictured) seemed like they were too young.

Enjoyed our ziplining experience…read more We had Shaelynn and another female guide. (sadly i can't remember her name) Was feeling a little nervous about ziplining. Have done 3 different locations in the past but everyone has been run differently and has had different safety standards. they did a good job in making me feel comfortable about going again though. The guides were friendly and knowledgable. They made the experience from start to finish a good time. Would recommend them for the future if you are going to the area.

Wilderness ATV excursion in Haines…read more Doreen and Annie were our guides. WOW, so much fun, had a group of 12. (6 couples) Kawasaki 800 4 seat UTV's and back country trails. Had a small snack lunch in the end. We had phenomenal views, and great experience. Highly recommended.

Off the grid might be an understatement…read more People say, "it isn't about the destination, its about the journey, man". In this case, the destination, Davidson Glacier, was stunning, but getting there was the real adventure. When we disembarked in Skagway, we didn't have an excursion pre-reserved. We wanted to get away from the endless jewelry stores and tourist traps and do something active, but didn't want to take any of the helicopter or small plane trips (long story). So we looked over the options offered by a local tour company [1] and decided on the Glacier Point Wilderness Safari. It was described as a high speed jet catamaran ride followed by a nature walk and canoe trip to the edge of a glacier. What we didn't realize is that we would leave civilization far behind and embark on something more unique than we realized. We left the metropolis of Skagway (pop. 1500 in high season) on the catamaran for an hour cruise to the remote area of Glacier Point. On the boat, our guide started telling us about the area and the group of hardy and humorous souls that live on the island during the summer months. You see every summer ten people live and work on the island in a little community with no running water or electricity while taking visitors to the glacier. And when the weather turns bad, which it invariably does in Alaska, and the trips are canceled, they have the place all to themselves. And boy was it beautiful. We were the first group to visit after a 3-day storm and they were really happy to see some new faces. Half the fun of the excursion was talking to the guides and asking them about their daily life on the island and what brought them there. It was fun to imagine what it would be like to join them for a few weeks in this exquisite solitude, but I know my limits. One of our family jokes is that I'm a 'state park kinda girl.' The canoe trip was a bit of a disappointment because we are a family of paddlers and although you are in a 30' Voyager canoe, the paddling itself is brief and ceremonial since the guide operates an outboard motor. And based on the skills (or lack thereof) of the motley crew of tourists, the motor is a good call. I wouldn't categorize the trip as active since you do far more sitting than walking or paddling. It was extremely cold, so take them up on their offer of extra layers. Unlike our other visits to glaciers, we got close in and time stood still as we gazed at the intense blue color, fragments, cracks, crags and landslides. Alaska is a land constantly on the move. Most glaciers are receding at an alarming rate, so there was awe tinged with sadness that it will never be the same. You've got to take it all in while it lasts. They had silly jokes, songs, provided history about the area and facts about glaciers. It was totally interactive and you never got the sense they were just going through the motions. All in all, one of our favorite outings in Alaska. And it was WAY OUT. [1] We booked through M&M tours, but others booked in advance through their cruise ships although this tour was not an option on Princess Cruises excursion list.

This excursion checks all boxes . 1 hour Power boat sightseeing ride to base camp. Along the way you will see Gorgeous Alaskan scenery from wildlife , water falls , to nature at its finest. A Adequate sack lunch is provided - sandwich , trail mix , apple sauce and water . It really Hits the spot when your hungry from hiking and paddling . It was also a added bonus to picnic in the Alaskan wilderness . ! Very cool canoe ride/kayak ride and great hike up to Davidson glacier . Amazing pictures !! This was an excursion we booked through Princess Cruises and it was amazing!…read more We were shuttled to the Musher Camp, about half an hour from the pier, and our driver and guide was wonderful. He was super knowledgeable about Alaska, Skagway and the local history and lore. The Musher Camp was so fun! Great for children and adults! They have a "Boneyard area for two retired dogs and an open air area for a guided presentation about the dogs and Iditarod. Then we got to see three beautiful dogs with their puppies, and each group was able to hold a puppy with a handler's assistance. They also have a play:training area with older puppies and a play wheel that helps determine their sled drive. Lastly, we got to make S'mores at an outdoor bbq pit in a gorgeous wooded area. They also offer a short guided hike, or you can shop in their beautiful store. Keep your eyes open during the ride, because we saw a bear cub on the drive! This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it! Musher Camp was clean, the dogs were well taken care of and the location is beautiful!
