Have done 3 different locations in the past but everyone has been run differently and has had different safety standards. they did a good job in making me feel comfortable about going again though. Wilderness ATV excursion in Haines Doreen and Annie were our guides. WOW, so much fun, had a group of 12. (6 couples) Kawasaki 800 4 seat UTV's and back country trails. Had a small snack lunch in the end. We had phenomenal views, and great experience. Highly recommended. read more

I was slightly apprehensive about trying rock climbing for the first time, but our guides really put me at ease. They have tons of safety equipment and backup lines to ensure you don't get injured. I ended up enjoying it even more than I expected. I trust these guides with my life (my life was literally attached to a rope in their hands). Huge shoutout to Cami and Andrew who quite literally talked my cousin off the ledge when she was super nervous to belay down the rock face. They both deserve raises. I can't recommend these rockstars enough!!! I was glad we had a small group because we got a couple good climbs in, but I wish we had time for more! Did this as part of a Disney excursion. We were picked up at the base of the ship. Had a chance to take a pee and then head out to the site after a short drive. They did a safety briefing and gave us helmets. Short walk up to the base of a cliff face. Was able to get one rock climb in. There were nine in our group. Was able to get one repel in. They were very good with my two children. They were concerned with safety and at the same time were also very encouraging and trying to challenge them to do as much as they could. Took hike and raft trip on june 1. The trail proved more technical than expected and my wife took a tumble that resulted in a bruised bottom. Our guide Kat responded with poise and presence, making the decision to skip the hike and drive to the rafting put in point, which the rest of the group agreed to do. The rafting was about an hour and made up for the missed hike. Kat was an excellent guide and rafter, would be glad to travel with her again. read more

Had a great time! It was my second time doing zip lines and the first for my friend. The trio of Kaylee, Lucas and Jessie were hilarious. The first three bridges were a challenge but a good warm up. Followed by five zip lines that got progressively longer. Course was up in the trees and the views were great. Safety was important and I never felt at risk. My wife and I were fortunate enough to go rock climbing and rapelling in the morning and to the adventure park and zipline in the afternoon. Absolutely a great time. The adventure park (and the hike to it) is a challenge, but a fun time. Zipling between the trees was thrilling. I was impressed with the amount of thought that was put into safety, with redundant systems, including dual ziplines, dual trolleys, doublechecks, and more. Nothing left to worry about but relaxing and soaring from tree to tree. Don't forget to tip! read more

This is a very disappointing tour to say the least. There was to be a tour of Fort Seward and a naturalist description of bald eagles and environs. The bus was decrepit, uncomfortable, and the driver and tour guides were unimpressive and nonprofessional. This was to be the Haines scenic tour. It was just plain lousy. read more

Heights give me anxiety. Parker and Michelle belayed us as we climbed an 80-foot face. They encouraged us all the way up, making that irrational fear vanish. You're very secure in the harness, and you can feel the security too. The view from the top of the climb is gorgeous. Rappelling is harrowing when you take your first step down. Parker talked me through the entire process as I lowered myself to the bottom of the cliff. Both he and Michelle are extremely patient. This excursion turned out to be the best, most memorable part of our Alaska cruise. I would have gone twice if our stay in Skagway was longer. Highly recommended! read more

Wow! What a ride!! These guides really know how to put a fun interactive adventure park and zip line tour together. We booked this tour thru celebrity cruise lines in Skagway, Alaska. We were promptly picked up at 1:15 pm and proceeded to the adventure park. Located uphill about 25 minutes from Skagway, the tour guides: Taylor, Garian, Nick and Jervah, told the group about Skagway and it's history. Once we arrived at the adventure park, we quickly made our way to helmetland: no! It's not on any map, it's where you put on your helmet. Safety first after all!! We then made our way to get our harnesses. Very easy process and the guides are there to help you out if you have any problems. Once everyone was ready, they gave us a quick what to do and what not do pointers. For example: do not touch the rope with the black marker. However, the one with the blue marker is for you to hold on to if u want to do so. The adventure park part is three small bridges that one has to cross over. After crossing all three you get to the baby zip line. From there we did a small uphill walk to the first of five zip lines to make our way back down to helmet land. By the third one, the whole group was a pro so making it down was fun. The group was fun and we all helped two people that were conquering their fears. The loved the whole thing. After the fifth and final zip line, we took off our gear, returned to helmetland to return the helmets and then proceeded to get some trail mix and cocoa. Me and my friends did mountaineering and sea kayaking, and for kayaking we had Michael and Kira. Both of them were super chill and nice. For mountaineering we had jackson, Danny and Jack, as a shadow. Jacks goblin laugh was great, and they were all THE BEST. Super nice and social. We also went rock climbing and zip lining with Andy and Brandon. That was super fun and they were nice aswell. read more

We booked this zip lining tour with Princess Cruises and it was spectacular! We have zip lined in our destinations and this one was so much fun! Our guides, Jake, Kris, and Miles were professional, respectful of people who were scared of heights, and above all, very safe with each one of us! Brady and Cody made this hike very fun and safe. We had some folks that were not so physically capable and they treated them with respect and did not make them feel incapable. I loved them for that. Haines, and this hike, were perfect. These guides are over qualified for this hike but did not show it in the least. We can not say enough good things about them. We didn't have a good experience on the Glacier Bay kayaking trip. I don't want to turn this into a therapy rant, I just want to relay the information. I've decades of wilderness experience, so that's where I'm coming from. I'll give you the short and long version: Short version: - not enough food - kayaks old and in disrepair - poor hygiene - camping gear not adequate for heavy rain - inappropriate rain gear, leaky boots - not for kids - not forthcoming about any heavy weather that is forecast Long version: - The kayaks are quite old and in very poor condition. They are patched and repatched and patched again. A thin patch on the bottom of my cockpit sprung a leak on day two and in the middle of an East Arm crossing I found myself sitting in a few inches of water. I had to stop and pump out about every 10 minutes for the rest of the day. The guide patched it that night, but the boat continued to leak, at a slower pace. By the end of the trip, the stern hold was also taking on water. - There isn't enough food served for the amount of calories burned. There seemed to be a lack of metabolic-awareness. Guides did not distribute high energy snacks for use while paddling prior to each launch. It was a "wait until lunch" approach, which was after several hours of paddling. Lunch the first two days was cold coleslaw and tortilla chips which didn't replace calories burned. (Other companies provide hot noodles, etc). As far as paddling snacks,they had packed plenty of energy bars, but I had to discover that for myself and be assertive and retrieve them from the stores myself (which I started to do by day 3). Dinner was good but there wasn't enough. Breakfast was sometimes a hit, sometimes a miss, but always not enough. Simple high calorie oatmeal with butter and brown sugar would have been nice, easy, filling, warm. I lost weight on this trip, and I started out thin. - Hygiene is poor. They provide hand-sanitizer in the poop-kit, but no soap, so I have to assume no one was washing their hands. I only recall one of the guides handing around soap one time in 5 days. Mess kits were not assigned so everyone's cups and utensils were interchanged at each meal. Dishes were not washed very well. By the end of the trip several guests were developing cold symptoms (us included). We tested positive for Covid on return. - Old/budget camping gear. Example, no tent ground cloth/tarp. The ground is essentially a wet sponge given all the rain, so if you put your tent directly down on it, it's soaked through immediately. A simple cheap tarp can mitigate this, but they don't provide it. Another example, not enough covered area during rain. They have a cooking shelter, but it's barely enough room for the two guides to do the cooking. We had 10 paddlers and two guides, so three quarters had to take their meals in the rain. Why not just bring a second rain shelter? - Beware their rain gear. It's better than nothing, and better that typical camping rain gear. But it's the kind of thing that is made for the deck of a fishing boat, not for sitting in a kayak in heavy rain. Some of it is poor condition. My wife was given a very leaky boot, which meant a saturated foot on every launch or landing of the kayak. Note that the guides are not wearing the kind of rain gear they give to the guests. They have dry suits or dry tops/pants. I would have been much happier/safer/comfortable had I had the same - and I would have gladly arrived with it, except the AMG told us it wasn't needed and the rain gear would be just fine. Also, they didn't even have gear that fit our younger child. - We were misled by the sales team that the tour was appropriate for children ages 9 and up. It was not; even the guide owned that when pressed. The daily paddling distances and pacing were geared to physically capable adults. It was very difficult to maintain the demands with a kid as your tandem partner. - They're not forthcoming about the forecasted weather. It's Alaska, I get it. It's going to rain. But we had an atmospheric river forecast during our trip, and they downplayed it. Read the NWS forecast yourself and make an informed choice - you might find yourself stuck out there and paddling through something you're not prepared for. I'd make my own backup plan and bring my own satellite messaging device. There is a water-taxi out of Gustavus, and AMG uses it if there is some kind of equipment loss. Bottom-line, this is a sub-budget experience due to corner-cutting, bad equipment, and a lack of mindfulness about how much food people need and their physical capabilities. It's an expensive trip and compared to reports from friends that have gone with other companies, we did not get what we paid for. Be cautious. read more

Glacier Bay Sea Kayaking Equipment was poor (most "waterproof" things leak). It was an expensive trip for the family, so my expectations were for functional equipment. Staff was great. Luckily, the weather was good, so the impact of the degraded equipment was not terrible. It's an easy fix with some investment. My letter to AMG following the trip went unanswered. Beware because SE Alaska weather should be met with equipment that doesn't leak. read more

This review is for the Zipline and Adventure Course excursion. No experience with the hard core stuff, which all looks cool. The important parts of the zip course are good: A. Guides were safe and good and pleasant B. Course is safe and in a beautiful area C. Everyone will have a good time So what's less than perfect? A. 3 hour excursion, maybe 10 minutes of action (25 people in our group; we waited for everyone at every obstacle) B. "Adventure Park" is really one set of rope ladder type walkways. Cool but less than a minute if you are moderately coordinated. C. 5 zip lines that were all fairly short compared to another place we'd zipped (which had 11 long lines) So... If you're psyched to go zip lining for the first time and this is when you have time, go for it and have fun. If you've been before and are just looking for something new and fun, I'd probably try rock climbing or something else in retrospect. read more

First time zip lining and it had to be in Skagway. I had a great time. Loved it. We got on a small little bus called the Beaver. Old but cool. Once you get there you have to do a little bit of climbing. Not a lot but enough to lose my breath a little. They bring you to a few areas to fit your helmet and zip lining equipment. They are very into safety and checking to make sure you're secure. We had Andy, James, Mike, and Dillon as our tour guides. They all had breads. Very safe and gave us lots of directions for our own safety. Also, our tour guides were very funny and lots of personality to keep it really fun. You go on three different rope bridges which are pretty fun to get you ready for the real stuff. Then you go on a baby zip to get your ready for the big ones. Six zip lines. Safe. Fun. I loved it. Just wish we could go through again. It was a blast and I have to say that our guides made it very fun. If you have a chance go zip lining in Skagway. It's a blast. Also, they give you trail mix and water when you get done. Don't miss out cause it really made Skagway a fun place to visit. Enjoy and happy zipping. read more

Skagway, Alaska is definitely a beautiful place! This was definitely my favorite stop on the 7-day Alaskan cruise I took last August on Carnival. Since we had a longer stay in Skagway the group I went with decided to take 2 shore excursions. The tour with Alaska Mountain Guides was the best! After a representative from the tour group picks us up at a meeting spot on the ship, you are taken to this super cool bus which takes you to the climbing spot in the woods. We were fortunate to have Drew, Ben, Mike, and Tony as tour guides. They were very energetic (especially for the 7AM tour we took) and great at giving us a Skagway history lesson as we drove approximately 20 minutes to the course. I must tell you the drive through downtown Skagway and the scenic highway is beautiful. Once you arrive, there is a bit of a hike to get to the staging area. The guides were very serious about safety and ensuring that everybody on the tour had their harnesses and other equipment on properly. With an overall group of about 15, the course takes approximately an hour and a half. The ropes course and zip lining was SO MUCH FUN!! Everybody on the tour seemed to be having an amazing time! Once done they do provide snacks and H20. Tips: - Bring bug repellant as there are quite a bit of mosquitos in the woods - Dress in layers as it was cold in the morning but warm as you go through the course - Tip Well! Assuming you get the same tour guides we had, these guys were amazing! Can't wait to come back next time I'm in Alaska!! read more

My husband and I booked the zip line excursion through Celebrity at our last stop during our cruise. We definitely ended things on a high note! We had never been zip lining before, and our three guides, Austin, Colton and Connor, made sure we were safe and had lots of fun. I thought the pacing of the ropes course and zip lines was well thought out, and I really appreciated the trail mix at the end. Overall, I think it's the guides that really made our experience great. As you are planing your Skagway Excursions the zip line is a must Ben and Ryan were a wonderful team they fit right in with the humor which made it so much easier. They taught, helped and pushed as needed and we all had a great time. My husband was a little concerned about his ability they made sure he had a great time.... we had a blast and now that we are back to civilization we both still think that this was the best part of the cruise. Alaska Mountain Guides - Climbing Near Me - Skagway, Alaska

Skagway was one our ports of call on the Alaskan cruise we recently took and we wanted to make the most of being there. After perusing through the list of excursions the cruise offered, we settled on rock climbing and rappelling since it seemed the most active and interesting of all the activities offered. I had only been rock climbing once before doing it in Skagway and at an indoor facility to boot so I wasn't quite sure what it was going to look like or how hard it was going to be. We were picked up from the dock by one of the guides and he was very friendly and informative (I believe his name was Palmer). He drove about 20 minutes inland and we arrived at our destination. We did a quick hike (it really can't even be called that) up to reach the climbing site and were introduced to the rest of our guides (Meredith and Nickel) and were given the appropriate gear- helmet, shoes, and harness (I know everyone has their own level of comfort when it comes to clothes but I would not recommend wearing jeans when doing an activity like climbing as it can be unyielding and restrictive). We were given some safety information, a quick introduction to rock climbing, and then split into groups. We stood at the bottom of the rock face and as I volunteered to go first (I don't know why) I was fitted into the rope and declared ready to climb. I gazed up the crag and was very uncertain and a little scared. The rock face looked like it'd be slick (because of the rain) and since I was going first, I hadn't had the opportunity to see how it was done or which parts of the rocks would be easiest for me to climb to reach the top. I know it sounds stupid because obviously you're supposed to just "climb" but it looked a lot harder than it sounds- it wasn't like there were those little colorful handles jutting out of the rock face like the indoor walls, you really had to look at where you were putting your feet and look for places to grab onto with your hands. It took me some time to climb up as I did it fairly slowly and methodically, looking to find holds I felt were big enough for me to grasp onto and inching my feet along nooks and crannies to step in/onto as I went up. The rock was indeed slick from the rain but fairly manageable and despite my fear (of heights and just being a wuss in general) I made it to the top. It was a very cool, exhilarating, and happy moment rolled into one. Everyone in our group got 2-3 turns to climb up and each of us got a turn to rappel down from the top. Our guides were really positive and helpful, shouting up encouragement and cheering us on from down below. There was a good sense of camaraderie amongst the group and our guides Nickel and Meredith were awesome. Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School runs in Skagway during the summer only but they offer all kinds of other climbing/training/and excursions throughout the year all over the world (Climbing Kilimanjaro, Sea kayaking with the whales, Skiing/Snowboarding, Hiking/Trekking to name just a few) . They were very professional yet personable at the same time and I would not hesitate to use their company again if I decided to go on an adventure trip in the future which I hope will actually happen soon. Just had a wonderful experience with AMG at their Skagway location. The package my family and I did included zip lining, repelling and rock climbing and we really can't say enough good things about the entire outing. This was a great mix of everything and was perfect for both complete beginers as well as people with prior experience. However the real highlight of this tour and company (Alaska Mountain Guides) is the staff. They were knowledgable, friendly, and extremely experienced. We had a group of 12 and they knew all our names by the end. They also were really great making everyone feel comfortable while still challenging them a bit. This was great for my parents who were in their 50s and had never done any climbing or repelling before. The both repelled and climbed sucessfully with the excellent instruction of our guides team - Charlie, Mel, and Mark. They are equally seamless with the logistics- we were picked up right at the dock and dropped off by our charming driver Tyler perfectly on schedule and had a lot of fun along the way. Strongly recommend using this company if you are interested in Alaskan excursions. AMG also offers excirsions in several other locations that i will certainly look into for my next vacation! read more

First of all, Skagway is probably the coolest port of call for all the Alaskan Cruises. Not as touristy, more "real Alaska" in my eyes. They have some really cool shops but best of all, it is a home base for great outdoor adventures. That leads me to Alaska Mountain Guides. I have never, ever, ever rock climbed. Ever. My husband has been bouldering numerous times but never climbing. I am so glad our first rock climbing experience was with Alaska Mountain Guides. These gentlemen were so kind, fun, informative, and above all EXPERIENCED! They knew how to teach without making you feel like an absolute loser. I'm a touch on the big side and awkward in just about every activity including walking. I am also VERY afraid of heights. What made me rock climb, I don't know. But I am SOOOOOOOO glad I did. Our guide was super supportive and got me to the top of a 30 foot sheer rock face with vocal direction alone! That was HUGE for me! My husband tried the harder route that took him 50 feet and he made it too. They also didnt make me feel like a wuss for not wanting to rappel down from over the cliff top.... The gear was very well maintained, the instructions were clear and precise, the scenery was beautiful, and the day was unforgettable...... How do I say unforgettable? We went in 2006:) read more

The tour was not found via general googling, and I believe it is only available through cruise lines. This is the only tour during my trip that I felt that I had enough time to fully enjoy the experience without feeling rushed and feeling like being treated like cattles. There are indeed many walls to choose from, whether you are a beginner (like myself), or want a challenge. I almost wanted to give up on my second climb, but the guide was calm and motivated me to reach the top of the wall! Way to go! There are at least two climbs per person. Since our group was small, we had the option of climbing another one! Afterwards, the guides took us on a short uphill walk to the top of a 80 feet cliff for rappelling. Amazing! read more
