Skagway, AK. June, 2025. My husband and I were on a Holland America (HA) cruise-and-land…read morevacation, and the HA Skagway Inn (formerly the Westmark Inn) was our designated stop for our one night stay in Skagway. The room was included in our package, but their website shows that rooms are generally about $249/night, plus tax. (There are also specials on-line to lower costs (for instance, get second night at 50% off OR 10% off for direct bookings)). The hotel is closed from Sept. 15-May 1. This older smoke-free hotel, with 94 rooms on two floors (no elevator), had a nice facelift since its days as the Westmark Inn. It's in an excellent location, easy walking distance to the Klondike Gold Rush Park, train station, and other attractions. While we didn't need them, the website says that there is free on-site uncovered self-parking, as well as free airport transfers. The front desk is staffed 24/7, and there's Internet in the lobby. Laundry facilities are also available. Our room, while on the smaller size, was clean and the bed was comfortable. We were disappointed that we weren't able to access the internet in our room nor was there a mini-fridge. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar, and the affiliated Bonanza Bar and Grill, a half-block away. However, breakfast was not included in the room rate. Overall, we had a good stay at the Holland America Skagway Inn, and would stay there again if we visit Skagway again. The price point is expensive for a two-star hotel, but Alaska is a pricey destination and many businesses (including this one) are only open during the summer months.

Centrally-located across from the train station and everything to see on Main Street in Skagway. We chose to eat in their restaurant for dinner and were not disappointed.

Fort Seward Bed & Breakfast - Built in 1904, House No. 1 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has been a home (however temporary!) for many as a B&B

You know that Nicholas Sparks story where a guy and a girl meet at a bed and breakfast and fall in…read morelove... well, yeah me neither. That didn't happen but this is a beautiful historic home overlooking the ocean. A bed and breakfast is an interesting concept- like a hotel but more intimate (and hopefully you have good downstairs neighbors). Upon arrival, there was a handwritten note that listed breakfast time for the next day and instructions for room keys, which I thought was a little odd at first. The music coming from the house next door was a little much and kept a baby in the house awake well past 11:15. The room was a little different than the website had shown, as I was picturing an ocean view from my room but instead got someone's backyard and a dirt road. (One other thing that might've been helpful would be having a mirror in the bathroom instead of outside the bathroom door- for those of us that can't see without our contacts lol) Ali is just the sweetest inkeeper. Day one breakfast consisted of a shakshouka-like dish (with poached eggs in diced tomatoes), sugared blueberries on top of yogurt, grapefruit, orange juice and tea, kielbasa sausage, pastries, and toast. Day 2 was an egg bell pepper frittata with kielbasa and roasted tomatoes on the side, pastries, raspberry coffee cake, yogurt, and sliced melons. The third day was bacon and egg muffins (aka breakfast in a cup) and toast arranged with a nice garnish of green onion top, a patriotic yogurt with blueberries and strawberries, grapefuit- probably my most favorite breakfast and the recipe easy to replicate. It was also helpful to have a refrigerator and microwave available for use. The porch is great for sharing a cup of tea and a conversation. Breakfast guests were friendly and chatty and came from Germany and all sorts of different places. It helps to get a different perspective on things

We stayed at the House No. 1 B&B in Haynes, Alaska. The B&B is a historic home on a slight hill…read moreoverlooking the breathtaking harbor. The area where the B&B is located is very picturesque and probably the best place to stay in Haynes. The owner purchased the home last year and has been renovating it. The home is quite beautiful with high ceilings, large windows and beautiful hardwood floors. We met both the owner and innkeeper. Both were welcoming and helpful with suggestions about where to eat and making sure that all of our needs were met. I was traveling with my 20-year old son, and my 23 and 27-year-old daughters. We stayed in the two guest rooms on the first floor which have a shared bath. The bedrooms are quite large, one extremely large. The beds were very comfortable with crisp clean linens. The bathroom is recently renovated and spacious. Towels were plentiful. For breakfast, which is included in the rate, we had a choice of a continental breakfast and/or hot breakfast, which on this date consisted of egg frittata, wonderful breakfast sausages and bacon, as well as toast, Danish, yogurt with fruit, juice and coffee. The table was set beautifully by the way. All of this was prepared by the innkeeper. We were very pleased with everything about the B&B and would definitely stay there again.
