Buddy immediately went with Anna with no hesitation. She has such a calm presence and really connected with my dog and he was surprisingly calm throughout this new experience. When he was done he LOOKED AMAZING! After Buddy was finished being groomed, Anna sat down on the floor and my 49 pound standard size Australian Shepherd went over and sat on her lap! Sadly, my pup started having anxiety issues brought on by aging, and I was becoming concerned about her being in a facility that worked on several dogs at a time. My pup had recently been diagnosed with cancer, so that, coupled with her anxiety, had me thinking I'd have to find a quieter grooming atmosphere. To my surprise, Anna announced that she would be starting her own grooming business... and, amazingly, her new salon is exactly what my pup needs. She works on one dog at a time, and the salon is really clean and professionally set up. My pup's first visit was great, and she was calm throughout the process. Anna is very caring and detail oriented, and it shows in her work. I always get compliments on my pup's cuts. I'm so very lucky and thankful that Anna decided to strike out on her own; having this kind of one-on-one care at this point in my retriever's life, is such a huge relief and so very appreciated.

I ended up traveling when the appointment was, so I called the week (four days prior to appointment) of and left a message. Actually left two messages as their machine cut me off on the first message. Canine Design called me back, however, in an area with no service. I called them on Wednesday and left a detailed message cancelling appointment...said two times my full name, phone number, my pups name, and that I would be cancelling the appointment. They did call on Thursday however, I was still in an area not getting service. I finally got into service area on Friday to find that they did not "confirm" cancelation and would not return my $40 fee (which they charged out at time of appt.). I believe it was a Natalie I was talking to and she was "sure" she talked to me on Tuesday and I said "I would call her back to confirm cancellation." My phone records do not show this and I was in area with no service. I tried to see if possibly I was mistaken with another client and she was like "No!". They was no way she made a mistake at all, is how she came across in her communications. I did not refute that Canine Designed advised me of the $40 fee, however, it was not clear that it would be charged at time of appointment rather charged if you did not show. Also, I called to cancel and left 3 voice mails confirming cancelation prior to the appointment. They did not want to work with me on returning the fee. I am sad to see this type of customer service at local establishments. I did the right thing by calling to cancel prior to the appointment so they could open appointment to someone else. I ended up getting the raw deal due to an employee overlooking (my assessment of the situation). I ended up paying $40, for NOTHING. I would look into the a different groomer with a better customer service procedures and mentality.

Almost two years later I finally got a poodle puppy and immediately scheduled her for Stacey's puppy package. My puppy (Merci) was almost 12 weeks old by the time I got her, which is when their first fear stage starts. I was thankful Merci could go to the salon and simply hang around the environment for an hour or two to just become accustomed to the noise, people, dogs, etc. The puppy package is three grooming sessions scheduled 2 weeks apart and ever since our first appointment Merci has been happy and excited when we enter the salon! Priceless! Stacey has years of experience with both grooming and training and is able to grow a dog's confidence and skills at an incredible rate. Stacey had competed successfully in Confirmation, Obedience, and Agility and that experience shines through as she handles dogs. She also runs a small grooming school to help other adults who want to be dog groomers reach their dreams! They skipped the toe nail clippings because my dogs resisted. Their groomers are young and inexperienced and there is always an excuse for why they couldn't do what I was being charged for! Took my guys to another groomer after I cancelled their monthly service and they had no problem doing their nails. They also charged me for a job they couldn't complete! This isn't high quality grooming with experienced staff.

Dog Abuse / Neglect at North Star Kennels:…read more Micah has had our Belgian Malinois for a few overnight stays over the past few years. He knows our dog and usually speaks very highly of her. Our dog is a trained protection dog with very high drive. Upon dropping her off this past trip, my husband explained to Micah that "yes, she barks in the truck everywhere, she's just very excited" Micah decided to take issue with her barking in the kennel truck he uses to transport dogs. He put an electric shock collar (e-collar) on our dog without our consent or knowledge. She is NOT trained to use an e-collar and therefore had very adverse reactions to it. Without being trained to the shock, she did not know what to do with it. Upon arriving at the facility, our dog was covered in her own diarrhea. Micah did not inform us that he thought our dog was sick or reach out to ask if she had been sick before. When we picked her up 3 nights later she was also covered in her own diarrhea again. We found he had used the e-collar on her for transport back to us. He explained she had an "upset stomach" all weekend. We bathed her and she was perfectly fine for us the rest of the day and following days. We noticed she had an open sore on her neck. It was red and inflamed and had discharge coming out of it. We texted Micah a picture and asked if he had any idea how this happened. After further examination by us and our vet we found she had two matching marks on either side of her neck. The vet told us it was from e-collar misuse. The collar was on for too long, and too tight. This causes what is essentially a burn where the prongs meet the skin. The upset stomach is due to extreme anxiety and stress caused by the entire ordeal. We sent this report to Micah who said his vet disagreed. (Without seeing our dog, examining her, or providing information on who the vet is). Micah told us it was from our own misuse of a prong collar she had not worn since she had been home. She has had a prong collar for training and working since she was a puppy, never having any issues with it. Micah presents himself as knowledgeable in the dog training sector. He is absolutely not. No knowledgeable trainer would put an e-collar on a dog for over an hour without the dog being trained to it. Especially not without our permission. To insinuate that the injury was caused by us is incredibly insulting, he stated he could "teach us how to properly use a prong collar". Further conversations with Micah on the phone were aggressive and unprofessional. The vet exam and antibiotics were refunded by Micah, the 3 day dog stay was not. DO NOT TRUST North Star Kennels with your animals.

When she completed her service I noticed that the hair on both hind quarters were excessively removed, exposing the under coating and skin (see photos). I contacted the owner, explained what happened and submitted a photo. I stated I was not satisfied with the service and wanted my money back. I never received a refund. I will never use this company again. It boggles the mind why anyone would want to use your company. I submitted a negative review because the groomer removed an excessive amount of hair. She could have contacted us or you to see if we should proceed. Since we disclosed that our dog has AD in her profile that you have, I'm shocked you didn't advise against it. I'm sure current and future clients will be comforted to know that you display personal information via Yelp when you receive bad reviews.
