What a great find! Edoardo Puglia's "Puglittarte" shop is in Castelmola, which is about 1,000 feet high above the very touristed Taormina. We hiked up there, but it's possible to drive or take a bus as well. Most people stop in one of the town's 2 major piazzas with a stunning view down to Taormina, but we managed to catch a glimpse of his shop, which you can find by looking for large oil paintings on nearby walls.
Edoardo is a self-taught painter who works with oil and spatula, and while I'm no art connoisseur, I found his work to be evocative of nature's power and beauty. We ended up buying a beautiful framed painting of Mount Etna at night, with brilliant colors as you stepped further away, and which appear to change in different light. His prices are reasonable too, especially if you want something small. Instead of buying some hokey souvenir, I'd strongly recommend Edoardo's little shop!
The only thing to note is he doesn't take card, so you'll need some Euros handy! read more
