Two of my friends, a couple, are absolute consumate foodies, and the wide eyes of these two in here was like the kid in Miracle on 34th Street realising there IS A SANTA CLAUS! So what is Cranberries Hampers, essentially it is a delicatessen, with a coffee bar included in the deli area. In addition to this there are buffet and catering services which are good to know if you've got an event coming up and fresh meats, dips, snack bits, salads and whatnot are your type of food. The deli counter itself is full of delicious cuts of meat, and in accordance to what the foodies said, were excellent quality, premium in fact. They went around the place, happily buzzing between the marmalades and jams, wines, marinades, sauces, olives, oils, all of the important stuff you require from a deli. Whence the foodies bought what they needed to stock up on, I decided I was a bit starved and when in Rome, let's eat. In a bit of a rush after their prolonged cruising of the goods, we got our food to go. My healthy sized New Yorker sarnie at £3.30 was a delish combo of chicken, pastrami, and Emmental, minus the gherkin cos they are sooo nasty. Foodies ordered beef, sweet chili and mozzarella, and t'other one, the fussy get, created his own for £4 with change. All in all a nice little place serving the needs of those who require more choice and quality than a supermarket, and appreciate the quality difference.

If I'm feeling really naughty I'll end with a rustic muffin or passion cake. Well it's part of my five a day so it can't hurt can it. it's a nicely done out shop too, well stocked and easy to use. Imagine my delight when I was given the task of making my Gran's Christmas cake last year. My Mam had taken my offer of help (given in July, the haze of Summer generosity a distant memory), very literally. No matter, for The Nut Shop came to my much needed rescue. Armed with a few recipes gleaned from various chefs online, I approached the market stall with a mixture of trepidation and dread. I think the lady behind the counter sensed my fear, and offered her services. After explaining my plight, she masterfully directed me to the necessary ingredients required to create the festive treat. The nuts and fruits that I bought were very reasonably priced, each sealed in individual little packets. With my confidence restored, I even treated myself to some dried apple rings for the walk home! I noticed that The Nut Shop also sold cake decorations, gelatine and other such items that may be omitted from the shelves of other shops. "How did the cake making go?" I hear you cry! It went magnificently. My Gran was particularly complimentary about the moistness of the fruit. I am not sure whether that had more to do with the full bottle of brandy that was poured over the cake in the weeks leading up to Christmas, or the quality of the fruit. Judging it on the latter, my Gran's praise is the highest accolade The Nut Shop could ever wish to receive.

The nutty part involved a pick 'n' mix area of yummy looking nuts and dried fruit - the healthy alternative to the many sweet shop pick 'n' mix's in the market. They also sell a wide range of herbs and spices, trays and tins and jam pot covers among an assortment of food and cake-related bits and bobs. They also have cake stands for hire! I love The Nut Shop for its unexpected mixture of things for sale, all of which look yummy or just a lot of fun!

With red and green seedless grapes at 69p per lb, a sack of potatoes to feed the masses at £3.95, 8 clementines at 99p and even blooming duck eggs, for crying out loud, at 29p what could be more exciting and reasonably priced than R K Harris and the boys? I think my only option is going to be to check out if my local Headingley branch sells duck eggs, and start looking up some recipes. Yey!

They sell everything from imported pastas and grocery items to chocolates and teas. The shop side has an astounding wall of all sorts of bottled goodies that you can buy by the mL, including brandies, scotches, olive oils, and vinegars. I left with little glass flasks of blood orange balsamic and porcini mushroom olive oil that are to die for. Worth a visit!

I defy you to go in and not come out with a sticky toffee pudding or stunning ginger bread house. The bakery really is first class. Yet so is most of it. You'll find teas, wines, meat, vegetables, really smelly cheeses and stock cupboard essentials. The oils are out of this world too. You pay for it but some of the balsamic and dipping oils are just meant to be cracked open on those special occasions. How I can get excited about oil I don't know but in here anything is possible. The other side of Yum Yum is a convenience store, selling fresh fruit and vegetables, pastries, tinned goods, various snacks and a range of wines and beers. They are significantly overpriced, but that is the cost of convenience. I also think their nearby rival Simpsons stock a far better range of products. All in all, it is a useful place to have around, but there are superior alternatives in the area.

You can also have your own sandwich made, they have loads of filling options and the cakes look awesome- its like subway if subway sold proper food! They do a large range of American sweets and drinks although every other shop in Leeds seems to offer these now. Yum's also have a massive selection of beers and I believe they open for dinner in the evenings doing pizza etc, if I lived at brewery wharf I wouldn't need to go anywhere else! They are a little expensive when you consider a meal deal at Sainsbury's is three quid but what you get is vastly superior. Spice Corner was his savour when selecting the mixture of mainstream and more obscure ingredients required. I don't think there is any herb or spice that the stall does not stock. The aromas that waft from the stall are fantastic, it makes me feel immediately hungry. The lady that served us was fabulous. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things spicy, she guided us into finding what we needed, whilst also interjecting her own hints and tips. The prices are significantly less than the brands that rip you off in the supermarkets. So much better value, and the quality is incomparable. The stall resembles somewhere that I would like to shop, grocery shopping with personality.
