The Surf City Publix is absolutely the best grocery store in Hampstead, Surf City, and Wilmington! The store is VERY clean and well organized, always stocked with appealing displays. The most important part of this store are the employees! Everyone I have ever encountered is professional, friendly, and focused on making our grocery shopping experience pleasurable. Even during the busy tourist season, the employees are happy to be there and so helpful. Whenever I'm in the South, I try to stop by Publix grocery store. Publix carries Southern foods that you just can't find anywhere else. The produce is super fresh and prices are reasonable. Publix is partially owned by the employees. I stopped by the store in Homestead, N. C. Last week to pick up groceries for the week. The store was not crowded as it was early on a weekday morning. Currently, they are decorated for the holidays and have special sales on Thanksgiving dinner ingredients. I found everything I needed and received discounts as I signed up for their shopper card years ago. The clerks were friendly. There was plenty of parking. read more

Absolutely the best grocery store in the area! They have the best produce and meats, all fresh and delicious. The sales are incredible, don't shy away if you think they're expensive, because they're not. I shop the sales, the BOGO and other deals. The store is VERY clean and the shelves are always stocked with anything you may need! The specialty departments are super, as well. I have ordered cakes from them, extremely delicious! The prepared foods are just like home cooked meals, ready to grab & go! The BEST part about Publix is the staff!! They are the friendliest, nicest and most helpful people you'll ever find! read more

I used to be a Harris teeter loyalist but the employees make it very clear they would rather be doing anything else than helping you or even being there. Took my business to Publix and it's an incredible difference in customer service and overall attitude and vibe of the store. Everyone who works at Publix is so kind and says hello and how are you. I'm consistently impressed, especially with the young kids that work there! It's also kept pretty clean and is generally well stocked. I just avoid going on Saturday afternoons during tourist season. read more

I'm probably just a northerner who's a sucker for southern charm, but WOW this was the friendliest store I've ever been in. I guess I'm used to having to hunt down someone to help me, but the staff was easily visible, and would go out of their way to offer help as I walked around. The bagger was even willing to look up a specific makeup my wife wanted that they didn't carry - and had advice on the closest match I could get - at CVS. Props there. Huge bonus was a GREAT selection of brews from some local breweries - helpfully tagged as "local". read more

I swore I wouldn't leave FL unless Publix came with me and I am so grateful for having one so close by in Surf City. This is such a great grocery store! I mean, who else gives you a whole bar cake for your birthday? Or a floral bouquet to celebrate your anniversary? Publix does! But it's not just the yummy and sweet perks that keeps me coming back, but the overall quality of their goods (especially their bakery, deli and sushi) and their wonderful customer service. I wanted to surprised my 3 sisters and sister in law for a get together they were having at one of my sister's home at Surf City March of this year. I called Publix from CA and spoke to a very helpful and accommodating gentleman by the name of Dan in Produce. I ordered a large fruit basket and beautiful flowers which he personally put together and sent me pictures of both. He delivered the fruit basket and flowers to my sister's home at the the time I asked! He went over and above what was expected! My sisters and SIL were all very blessed and couldn't believe the size & heaviness of the fruit basket and the flowers were so gorgeous. I had gone back to Publix in Surf City summer of this year to personally thank him and to also order a small fruit basket, but I was told that he had been promoted to the Publix in Wilmington. I totally get it. I was very impressed by Dan and the superb service I received from him that day. Thank you Dan! I hope Publix knows how lucky they are to have you as their employee! read more

Ok, I don't usually write reviews for anything but restaurants, but I was really pleasantly surprised by my experience here! My family and I are visiting Topsail Island and came from Northern Virginia, and I can confidently say I have never experienced so kind a grocery staff ever in NoVa! Every time I had to ask an employee for help, they were very polite, engaging, and knew exactly how to help me find what I needed. The store itself is very clean too, and has a great selection of healthy options if you're into that. As a vegan who doesn't eat any refined sugar, I was so happy to find a big variety of food available to me! Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend this store for all your vacation grocery needs :) (PS: on a COVID note, every employee I saw was wearing a mask pulled up correctly and the entire store was enforcing social distancing via aisle control, spacing, etc. I felt very safe!) read more

I've been to this Publix twice during my March 2019 trip to Topsail. They claim to focus on customer service and they live up to the promise. Sometimes they are almost too helpful! I'd prefer that, however, to poor customer service. I'll be shopping here exclusively during my trips every year. Tip: Take the kiddos to the bakery for a free cookie! As a regular shopper, every Wednesday morning for 4 years since moving to Ooltewah Tennessee and 30+ years traveling to Florida, I was shocked at the rudeness offered my wife and I on the first day of vacation! Was so very upset, as Publix has ALWAYS had the greatest reputation for customer service, that 6 out of 7 employees were clueless and rude. It all started after.entering the store and going to the deli for fresh Boars Head sandwich meat for our house. After several minutes of being the only customer at the deli, one.of the employees slicing cheese, while talking with another employee who had his back to me shrink rapping deli meats, advised me that someone would help me soon. I said, "I hope so!". Which elicited a response, "Well, an employee had cut their finger". Which, upon leaving and advising the customer service manager how appalled I was with the service I had received, informed menthat what I was told was incorrect.....a lie!. I told the deli employee I needed 1/2 pound of turkey breast, my wife said arriving guest would like some ham, I asked what kinds of ham they had available? Crickets! After scanning the display case to find what styles were available, the employee rudly asked if I was done! I informed him no and that his assistance picking from their ham choices would be helpfully, I got a stare that would stop a bull moose's charge! Found the ham choices, made my request, and was informed I could pickup my order later! Still, granted as the only customer at the deli and my deli employees would gladly show mena cut piece to make sure of the proper thickness, i concluded, new policy....go on. The rest of the visit was met by clueless, unhelpful, millenials! With the exception of the fact when my wife asked for assistance finding caramel sauce to go with her icecream! The bearded young man walked her down the isle and retrieved the caramel sauce. Could it get better....only worse. When returning to the deli, i waited patiently for my two packa of meat as therenwas now three customers waiting to place their orders, and was told my order was on the shelf....along with three others, no names associated! Maybe the checkout would go better...NOT. The middle aged lady at checkout, after the third time rudely telling my wife that she needed to move her empty basket to the end of checkout, as the bagger need the cart to place our groceries in....and was not cery happy when I informed her that he already had a cart! Didn't pointnout the obvious, if she had taken the time to look, he had already placed a bag full of groceries in an empty cart at the end of the checkout lane. I would commit further about the slap happy way our "refrigerator required" purchase were place not in the Publix branded cooler bags, I had three, and I mentioned that MY store allowed me to bag my own, I ignored her rude response. NO..if you as a grocery store offweing bagging service, train your employees first on how to bag groceries! Good luck with better service than I had.....thumbs worn out or I would continue. read more

This store is a pretty recent addition to the area, and actually the first Publix I've seen outside of Florida. When I was younger my Mother and I would go every week to a Publix in south Florida and I would get some sort of delicious baked good. Roughly 26 years later Publix STILL has amazing baked goods, hands down the freshest I've ever gotten from a grocery store. And the woman who was working at this particular bakery was both pleasant and engaging, which I find refreshing since it's something of a rarity in the north where I live now. I highly recommend the cookies here, my gosh were they good! The selection here is diverse compared to the other stores nearby, though the prices are a bit higher. For instance a bag of spinach was roughly twice the cost you'd find at Walmart. But the fact they had more obscure items, like black rice, made up for the price differences. I should also mention the workers here were exceptionally kind, and my family even remarked on the difference in customer service here. So if you're nearby, and need amazing baked goods or higher end food items, definitely stop at Publix! read more

Never would I have thought to give a review of a grocery store...but after my experience in this Publix today...I had to...my family and I was vacationing at Top Sail for the week and it was our final day....we wanted to have a seafood boil to wrap up the awesome week we had...after being disappointed by a few stores by not having crab legs.. I was told to try Publix...I did and I was not disappointed...as soon as I walked in I was greeted with the warmest hello and welcome...it was when I arrived at the seafood counter that the hospitality and the most outstanding customer service I've ever had happened....that's where I met Lin(Len)she was amazingly helpful from the start...I told her the size family I was trying to feed and she knew exactly what I needed...not only did she provide the crabs and shrimp but she also shared a seafood boil recipe and technique with me...the customer service did not stop there...Lin(Len) proceeded to escort me around the store to ensure I got everything that was required for my boil...I've never had someone so helpful...she was cheerful and very professional...it's a rare thing where I'm from and this was so refreshing...after I was totally satisfied with all my items I had to thank her...so Lin(Len) if you are reading this..thank you again and if you do make it to Maine...it will be one great gain for the state... read more

Rude employee-I walked in with my two young children, we ordered food from the deli section. The first thing I was asked is " When is your next one due?" Followed by "Its ok honey, I have five of my own." First of all I am not pregnant. Second, even if I was when has it ever been ok to ask?! On Saturday, this store's employees showed this visiting Washingtonian (the state) what "southern hospitality" really is . I was greeted at the door & by an employee in every department. 3 different employees cheerfully helped me find certain items. Their selection of food was great & the quality was very evident. When I left with my cart full of bags & went outside to call Uber for a ride back to our RV, Uber said there were NO CARS AVAILABLE, when I had no trouble getting one 2 hours earlier. I waited about 5 minutes to try again, but with the same message from Uber. The gracious greeter came out to suggest that I wait inside the store out of the cold wind & that she could put my cart of groceries into their cooler. At first I said that I would try Uber again & stayed outside. A few minutes later she came out & said that this time she wouldn't take "no" for an answer, so I followed her back into the store. She showed me to a bench inside & put my groceries into their cooler. I kept trying to summon an Uber car, but to no avail. About 5 minutes later the sweet greeter told me that she & a box boy were going to take me home. It appeared that they had discussed this with a manager. Our RV was only 5 minutes away but they offered me a ride without knowing that. They unloaded my bags of groceries out of the grocery cart & into the back of her SUV & drove me back to the RV park. When there, they unloaded the groceries & handed them to me in our motorhome. They were SO kind & really helped me out of fix after being stranded by Uber. I cannot say enough about these great employees.Their manager should be very proud of them. I highly recommend this store. read more
