The Pub Club is family owned and operated with a small number of staff that always seems to be working when I go in to grab a bite. The waitresses are welcoming with a warm smile, telling you to sit wherever you want. The uniforms that are worn by the staff are very casual, consisting of a Pub Club t-shirt and jeans or black pants. They did not carry trays instead they used their arms to balance the baskets of greasy food.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was different because it was mostly quiet on the dining side, with minimal noise coming from the waitress station and kitchen. On the other hand, the noisy bar on the other side of the thin wall could still be heard. This made you feel as if it was okay to yell when there was an important play in a big game, such as the Iowa-Iowa State game (my date). This will only get you looked at for a few seconds by everyone in the dinning room trying to enjoy their meal with their families.
When it comes to ordering the food, there is not much of a selection but the fan favorites seem to have made the cut. My favorite was the Philly cheese steak with fries and coleslaw. The food didn't take long to get to the table with the coleslaw arriving first. It was a small portion that looked bland but tasted good and had a fresh crunch to it. Next came the main dish, the Philly cheese steak, served with a rather large crisp and juicy pickle. It came out piping hot with a perfectly toasted bun, big chunks of onion and peppers mixed in, melted Swiss cheese, and meat. It was a medium sized sandwich but the rest of the plate was filled with an assortment of fries. read more
