While there were many apartments available in Anchorage, most failed to meet those expectations. Then I found the online ad for a studio at the Cedarwood Apartment complex, on 23rd Avenue. The first photo I saw was of the outside of the building; it looked woodsy and inviting. The ad's 3-D feature allowed me to take a tour inside, and I was impressed that the building was clean and free of debris. I was also amazed at the numerous "Apartment Amenities." So I did something I've never done before. I applied for the studio without actually visiting the site and meeting the manager. After my application was accepted, I paid my first month's rent while still in California. Then I made my airline reservations. My plane touched down in Anchorage 3 weeks later, and when I arrived at Cedarwood, I was relieved to find that everything in the complex was exactly as promised in the online ad. My studio was immaculate and smelled of fresh paint. As I settled down for the first night in my new apartment, a comforting train whistle blew off in the distance. I have lived here for a year now, and am proud and happy to call this place, "home!" The manager is outgoing and helpful, and has managed to find tenants who are friendly, quiet, and considerate of their neighbors. If I contact management because something needs to be repaired or replaced in my apartment, it's usually taken care of the very next day. I sometimes sit near the sliding glass door to my balcony, enjoying the changing sky and flyers through it, like birds and small planes. Sammy, a Black-billed Magpie, often lands on my balcony rail for a moment or two, just to say, "hello."

Management doesn't enforce any parking rules. People basically do whatever they want with no repercussions. Management doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. Oh, and they value new renters FAR more than existing tenants. I lived there for almost four years and they were trying to offer me lease renewal rates hundreds of dollars more than they were offering to new tenants on Craigslist. Aside from the management, the quality of people who live there has gone down as well. Multiple domestic violence issues, loud parties, police calls, and blatant drug related behavior on a daily basis. It's sad because this WAS a nice place to live at one point. The couple of stars I will give are due solely to Dave, the maintenance guy. He is amazing and deserves better than to work for Weidner.

It is not worth the cost of rent. The staff in the front office are friendly in the "bless your heart" kind of way. They blame everything wrong in the community on Weidner, even though they are the employees who should be doing upkeep. Landscaping was never done correctly. Nothing about this place is luxurious. Appliances are old and finishes are cheap.

Then tell you that you have to pay this or be evicted. They added a charge for utilities saying this is what utilities cost. But on the lease I signed it said that utilities would be $55 on top of the rent. But they charged an extra $139 as well saying this is the amount that is for utilities. On top of the outrageous charges the apartment is not taken care of and the company does not do anything to repair anything. I called and sent messages for the mice issues in my apartment and they just brought my apartment 2 mice traps and that was their idea of fixing the issue. Then water was coming from my ceiling in the bathroom and they took days to repair this. While repairing this they left my apartment a complete mess leaving trash in my bathroom where they were repairing the leak. They cut a hole in the ceiling and left all the dust and trash in the bathroom and I came home to have to clean it all up. Alpine apartments is not a good place to live. They will lie about you to the court. They said I owe $8000. to them when I have been paying the rent to them. So now I am homeless cause of them trying to get a new and better place to live is not working cause they did a eviction on me and didn't take it off my record like they said they would do if I just leave. I left and now I am homeless. My advice avoid ever renting through Weidner they are a horrible place to rent from and are a bunch of crooks. Who just want money and are not there for the people. But if you don't mind living in a smelly building that has mice every where then this the place for you. But if you like to live in a nice clean place with good management this is not it. There was several issues I've mentioned and I've always had to reach to them again regarding different problems and I'm upset. The laundry they stole wasn't done drying so they took them mid drying. I've mentioned to them that insects invaded our unit and the office had told us that they will put us on a plan to effectively spray down the place and it's been 2 weeks since I've reported the problem. My girl and I were moving down south and needed to stay the rest of our last month to get everything sorted out, and we literally had to pay an entire month's rent for under two weeks of extra time. Why? Because their system can't prorate for that. Sounds like lies, but then I remembered - Weidner Apartments. This company pays bottom dollar for everything.
