While everyone we met was very nice, several repeatedly verbalized how understaffed they are and how poor the facilities are. The air conditioning did not work, nor did the television remote. The room was clearly meant for one person and my mother was a second patient stuck in a small space. On more than one occasion her oxygen machine began to squirt water all over her face and one time when I reported it I was told "oh that is okay." I was shocked that anyone could walk in and out, even at 9 oclock at night. I appreciated the kindness of several staff members, but having a parent there was scary and we felt helpless. I am not sure if I would be writing a review if the above was the worst of it. Unfortunately, on the second day my sibling showed up at 1pm and found that my mother was still asleep. At that point we learned that she had not woken up at all that day for longer than a few minutes. When asked whether she had spoken at all we were told yes, she had repeatedly said "Help me." She was left in bed and ignored, and nobody told us. My sister tried to wake her up and eventually the daughter of another patient came to help her, but she would not wake. When she said she needed to return to the hospital she experienced resistance, and later my sister overheard staff talking about how stupid it was for her to leave. Needless to say, when she arrived at the hospital she ended up in ICU and we are still working to understand what happened. We are not able to comment on the quality of the rehab work since it never occurred. I do not question whether there are good people working at this facility (we saw it), but it is very clear that they lack the staff, training, and resources for the job. I will forever live with the guilt of allowing my mother to stay there, though.

To get decent food for mom was a fight with the kitchen everyday. The quality of the food was horrible. Even the Dietitian agreed with me. Most of the CNA's are lazy. If you asked them to do something they had a bad attitude. It got to the point that I was the topic of conversation during the staff meetings. I wasn't asking for anything that Waterview wasn't mandated to provide their residents. It is clear that if you are a hands on, concerned family member, that asks questions, you are not liked. The Administrator Lisa is a bully and the maintenance guy Adolfo thinks he runs the place (because the Administrator gives him that power). I've complained to Corporate CEO and I was told that they spoke to the Administrator, but all she did was mention it at her staff meeting, stating "they reported me, but as you can see, I am still here. I discharged my mom during the coronavirus outburst, and was give a months worth of expired medication. The medication had expired a year ago. God only knows how long they had been giving mom expired medication. Who else there is getting expired medication? They just care about numbers, not your loved one. I can go on and on about how bad this place is. Please....if you care for your loved one, stay away from this place.

Two of the three staff psychiatrists determined that he did not have dementia and shouldn't be on the drugs. It took numerable emails and phone calls to Christian Health management including the CEO, Medical Director, VP of Mental Health, Heads of Social Services and Nursing to get him out of this hellhole. And he lost 17 pounds in 40 days. Ramapo Ridge drugs patients, they don't treat them. Don't ever let one of your loved ones go there. They should have their license revoked. My husband died after 10 days in the hospital. He was not responding to any treatment, and I thought it best to stop his suffering and use hospice.

We spoke the other day with the medical director. He took a good amount of time to talk to us about my loved one's medical condition and our concerns. Looked in depth at his chart and history. Ultimately told us to invite our loved one's PCP to contact him to share thoughts to try to dig deeper into some things. In short, very personal attentive one on one care. Very knowledgeable. You don't get that everywhere if at all. The fact the head medical director made himself available to us without requiring a scheduled meeting or heads up is amazing care. Every staff member we have encountered is kind and friendly. Very personable and outgoing. You don't get the bare minimum. You can tell they care. They joke. They express concern. They listen and interact. And we have seen this with other patients in other rooms when no third parties are around. So it isn't just best behavior when family is present. It is the way of life here. So I continue to be so pleased with this facility.
