I had such a great time yesterday. I like living in San Francisco not just for the micro climate…read morebut also because a few blocks down the street is like me going into a different village/township from the boring suburbia. Hayes/Hayes Valley just has just my favorite gypsy vibe. And Sword & Roses is just a historical representation of this 60s/70s SF lifestyle. I had a much needed concern coupled with recent tragic fire in HK (where my parents are. They don't live in the incident apt complex but still dark mood all over b/c of the bad news) that need addressing and spending a few hours at the shoppe just rejuvenated me. Yes, this is not a shoppe where you browse quick and rush out, I would avoid that if that is your plan cos you could meddle up the peace and flow of things there, j/k. Everywhere you turn, you will find gems literally in the shoppe. I couldn't take pics of the shine to show you out of respect but the place is always warm because shoppe owner heats up the chimney with more wood. This is a tiny little space but you could spend hours or up browsing through every inch and many actually do, taking their time when time in SF is worth a lot. I love the garden, the customers and the ladies who upkeep the shoppe. You will not come in and find this place boring! There is always conversations about meaning of life, spirituality, animal guides, tarot cards, astrology and palm readings. Someone will be searching through books to find their childhood treasure again or getting recycled leather bound journals for their out of town friends as a keepsake. Possibilities are endless, as endless as your openness to alternative healing and spiritual solutions. I brought some incense too (not in the pic) but it has the most gorgeous and tranquil blue that even not burning them (putting out in display immensely) enhance my spirit, my mood and my well being. I got instructions about what to do with the ashes too. Many came from out of town or just across the bay! I recommend stopping by to say "hi" to the friendly ladies or the shoppe owner, they are always up for a good chat and just so open and welcoming, I bet they get asked all sort of life questions so you won't shock them with your challenge. Bottom line, this is a cute, lovely, back shoppe filled with loads of SF histories, good times bad times, and foot prints of some unique souls, some beautiful, some odd and some stranger than old wives' tales. P.S. I will update my reading as time passes with realization of actual events. But maybe I will not, let the bygones be the bygones! Will see.

What a magical find! My friend introduced me to this spiritual and metaphysical store and I fell in…read morelove with it. The store is hidden behind another house. It has a lovely little courtyard where the front store is located. Once you go inside, you're immediately in another world, filled with crystals, tarot cards, incense, oils, large array of spiritual books. It's not big inside but they packed a lot in, including 3 beautiful alters (that you can't take photos of) and places for divinational readings. When I was inside, a couple customers came in and asked for readings, which, the only person working the store, also does readings. The readings are not private so i could hear everything while I was browsing, which I didn't mind. There was so much to look at that I could have hung out for an entire day. This was my second time in the store and I picked up some crystals that I was attracted to and browse the million of Tarot cards that they have because I wanted a new deck. I also bought 2 books and another Egyptian deity figurine. Last time, I picked up some incense and they sell them in powder instead of the traditional cone or sticks. The powder incense has no binders or fillers, so it's only pure ingredients that is easily lit with a match. I bought a shell from the store where I can pour some powder out and light it. It burnt great and smelled wonderful. The gal in the store helped me pick one based on my spiritual needs. This is a very special store and I will always make time to stop in whenever I'm in town!
