I have had the pleasure of working directly with the math tutors and one thing that I can say with…read morecertainty is that they are very passionate about what they do. They really put the goals of the students first. There are many unique skills that are not covered very well in school, I call them accelerated learning techniques, all of which are practiced in abundance at the Math & Science Academy. Several of my friends have had their children get expert one on one tutoring with SoCal Math Academy, and have experienced dramatic increases in their grades. It's not a fluke, rather the process they use. As a child (many years ago!), I struggled with basic algebra for years, until I had the right teacher come along. He instilled in me the right way to learn mathematics, and from that point on, I transformed from a C grade student to straight A's in math. That helped me get through college and into a great job in the technology field. You'll agree with me that math, especially in a place like California, is a subject you must master if you desire to get into a highly sought after technical area. I am not bashing the SoCal school system by any means, the teachers are some of the hardest working, yet underpaid professions in the USA. Sometimes it's the slightest changes in the environment of HOW you learn for an individual student that makes all the difference. If you or your child, like I did, struggles in a traditional classroom setting, this may be your ticket to getting top grades in math. When you experience one of the tutor's classes, that is what you will experience - a different learning environment that leverages the individual learning styles of the students. I didn't mean to write such a long review, but as a parent and one who struggled with math as a child, I fully understand how valuable having a tutor can be and the HUGE difference it make - not just in math, but also in your career. You can use these same skills in many areas of your life. To the team at SoCal Math & Science Academy, I appreciate all that you do for our children, your absolute dedication and passion for this subject is simply unlike any other. Thank you!

The kids are in a room of maximum of 3 kids and they don't have to be in the same grade. The tutor will then give them various tasks and they'll do them in the hour they're there. What I noticed was although there was improvement, there is often some setbacks where the staff will try to upsell you for another one of their programs which can be rather annoying. At the end of the session, again they try to upsell you into buying another of their programs, but I didn't give in. I just said no thank you. Recently they added an online 'help program' to their in center tutoring -- for an added price of course. I just heard yesterday that the Score Educational Centers have gone bankrupt and they will all revert to their parent company's name Kaplan. Thank god I didn't give them anymore money!

I was struggling to find an effective, yet affordable, ACT test prep tutor for my son, who's a high…read moreschool junior. After reviewing Howard Test Prep, and all of the comments, I decided to give them a call. My son was paired with Rick, who has been more than I could have dreamed! My son - who is not a fan of tutors in general - hit it off immediately. Rick's professionalism and preparedness in working with my son has been wonderful. He has been open and honest about what would, and would not, work to prepare for the ACT. My son had four short weeks, but the time was used very efficiently. Keeping up with the additional ACT-prep homework was important, and Rick didn't set an unrealistic work load, allowing him to keep up with his regular school assignments and extracurricular activities. My son found Rick's instructions clear and easy to work with. It helped him go from a previous ACT score of 28 to a jump of 32! Four points after four weeks! And, as a parent, I appreciated the reports provided after each session with details about the lesson and assigned work. I also liked the convenience of Rick coming to tutor in our home and working around my son's nighttime availability. It made our lives so much easier. I highly recommend Rick as a test prep tutor and would have every confidence to work with him again in the future. Great tutor, great guy!
