For some reason I had always passed by Sweet Basil's without trying the food. Well there was only one way this could be remedied. I wasn't in the mood to be too adventurous so settled on chicken with lemon and egg fried rice. The food was of a high quality and the sauce was all gloopy as can be the case with some places. Although I didn't eat in the restaurant when I went to pick my food up it looked really nice and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I was also really impressed with the prices; you get a large portion for what you pay for. I ended up only eating half and heated the rest for lunch the next day. Two meals for the price of one!

(desserts not included in the early bird menu) my verdict: DON'T COME HERE! not unless you want to be thoroughly disappointed! no wonder we were the only customers in!

I changed my mind and decided to have a salad with my fish but it took 3 attempts to get the waiter's attention but he was friendly and said it wasn't a problem. The mains were delicious, we all enjoyed it. Halfway through some jolly music started playing with a waiter coming out with a sparkly cow boy hat and another with a dessert with a sparkle. Turns out it was birthday song but not one any of us had heard of but was good. Desserts menu was disappointing though. We had a large group so we had several different curries, again, impossible to pick the best. The lamb was fork tender, the chicken juicy, the sauces, makhani, vindaloo, tikka marsala, balti, all divine. Fantastic chapati, fluffy rice and great service will make me certainly go back to Nawaab when I return to my other home!

We had to fight our way through the throngs of people just to get to a member of staff to ask if they had a table free. We had a short wait and then they showed us to our table. The menu is extensive. Almost too much to think about in some ways. It was very busy in the restaurant and the noise of people chattering was a bit difficult as you had to shout to be heard at the other side of the table. The tables are quite close together as well. Therefore not a place I would recommend for a romantic meal for two. Having said all that the food was fabulous. All four of us had something different but there wasn't one complaint between us. The prices, I would say, are the higher side of moderate but defintely worth it.

Poor experience at this pub with misleading pricing on the 2 for £22 menu. The offer included a…read moreshin beef pie and gammon in the 2 for £22 but we were charged £26 for both items because my wife chose the smaller size pie however there was no reference to this on the offer menu so we were charged £4 more because we ordered a smaller meal! This was discussed with manager who completely refused to amend the bill. The food was ok but the managers refusal to do the right thing spoiled the evening.

He was great with us and said he'd definitely get us in...awesome customer service, especially for me as an American used to the service we get in the U.S. And, this isn't the first time that the people there have been as friendly as this. The bartender was just great as well. At one point after we had finished our meal, she came over and asked if we wanted to close out our tab (it was nearing 11:30 at this point) or if we wanted to hang around as she reckoned she would still be there until 1 AM or so serving the guys at the bar. So, the two guys I was with both ordered another pint and we sat for another 30 minutes or so. Also, the food here is great! Yes, they have the typical pub food that we all love, as I've enjoyed the scampi and chips and meat pie before. This night though, I was feeling something a bit lighter, so I went with the balsamic-glazed chicken with roasted veg. It was SO delicious! It is difficult to find 'lighter' options in pubs sometimes and this one was filling without making me feel like I left with a weight in my stomach. My fiance had the special, which was sea bass (Yes, in a pub!) with prawns, and he raved about it. Now that I've gotten that off my chest I can confidently say that I truly enjoyed my experience here the second time around as well. Before I even closed the car door the aroma was already overpowering all other thoughts in my head and all I could think was FOOD. Such a primal experience. I assure you I behaved myself in spite of the glorious food that would lay before me in just a few minutes. We opted for the buffet which is £10.95 per person and I found it to be excellent value. For the sheer amount of appetisers that I ate, I can confidently say I ate [more than] my money's worth. There is a great assortment of dishes and the ones I can remember are: chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, lamb karahi, pilau rice, naans, chips, chicken madras, chicken tikka pieces, seekh kebabs, and onion bhajis. There are definitely more than that, but that's pretty much what I feasted on and thus what I remember. Everything was delicious and there is a curry for every craving. Korma is more on the sweet side while the tikka masala has more of a bite to it. Although I wasn't drinking this time, I noticed they have Stella Artois and Budweiser for only £1.50 which I thought was incredible for a restaurant, especially when most places charge double that for some pop. The service is incredible, really. We felt very taken care of and everyone we encountered during our visit was so polite. Can I also just say how much a restaurant's bathrooms speak for the cleanliness of the restaurant as a whole? Those things were immaculate and smelled like they had just been cleaned, and I found myself thinking this during two separate visits, so I am definitely thinking this place is consistent. Ah, I love consistency in a place. They obviously won't have everything on their menu out in the buffet, but worry not because the menu is always available as well if you would like your food especially made. According to the menu I picked up, all the food is 100% halal and the place has been around for something like 20+ years, so they must be doing something right. :)

It's a bit late but I thought I ought to mention the Christmas buffet. It was good value in that it's the only place that doesn't quadruple it's price on Christmas Day but the quality wasn't as good as it is at other times. Some of the dishes were distinctly short of meat and there were many empty tureens when ever we went to the buffet. My impression was that they just hadn't expected to be so busy and were badly stretched.
