i checked out provin trails the other day, i love the feeling of nature and sand so close to home, but i was very confused on where to go (maybe i'm bad at reading the trail map). the loop was less than a mile which i was bummed about but i would definitely go back. people were hammocking over the little dune area and in the trees, which looked lovely.

Provin Trails is located on 4 mile road just next to Robbinettes Applehaus and Winery. The parking lot can be accessed from 4 mile road and then you will make your way into the trails where you will find a hilly terrain. The trails are perfect for hiking, running, and walking all year round! It is also a fun place to cross-country ski and snowshoe in the winter months!

This view was taken at the top of one of the many hills, while sitting on a bench to watch the sunset.

I Love Provin trails! Great place to bring the kids to burn energy and listen to nature. I can't believe how close it is to the city. When you're here, you'd never believe you are so close to downtown Grand Rapids. The only downside is the parking lot, there is not a lot of room. I will definitely be back to Provin trails and swing by Robinettes to pick up a donut next time, since they are right next door.

Best trails in the Grand Rapids area for running your pooch. There is great landscape and terrain for you and the four legged friend to get some exercise. This place is one of the very few spots in the area that the mutt can roam around. It will always hold a special spot in my heart because I brought our late great champion, Brodie here often. Now I carry on the tradition with our new lil' guy Ralph. He absolutely loves it! This time of year (fall/winter) is particularly great because the foliage is gone and you can see your dog getting about almost anywhere. Like I said the place has some rugged terrain which is perfect to tire the puppers out! Hands down 5 stars! Not sure why Michigan doesn't invest in more areas like this for dogs to romp. Provin Trails is one helluva gem!

Wonderful rich pine air. A mix of coniferous and deciduous forest intermingled with sand dunes -- an interesting ecological mix. Makes for flat and sloping trails, some steep but still quite walkable in gym shoes, not too slippery. Open underbrush makes for a spacious feel while walking even enveloped under tree canopy. Very nice, but I was done walking all the trails before I knew it! Lots of people walking their pups, but you still have plenty of quiet and trails to yourself.

Nice trail to walk your dog

I've got lots of thoughts running through my head, simultaneously, all the time. So when I stepped…read moreup to the check-in counter at Millennium Park Boat Rentals, the thoughts in my head were: Wow! It only costs $8 per hour to rent a kayak? Sweet! Wow! These people checking me in and telling me safety information are incredibly young! Will they be able to save me and my family if our kayaks flip over and we fall into the lake? Wow! What a beautiful day! But I wonder how often people fall into the lake. I also wonder how deep the lake is. I also wonder if it's possible to be trapped underwater if your kayak flips over. In the end, I decided to kick it on the sandy beach and wave at my family as they happily paddled on the lake. They had a great time kayaking. I had a great time not kayaking. Like Hot Chocolate says: Everyone's a winner, baby. Kayaks are either single-person or double, and we used one of each. There are very few instructions given, which was a little alarming to me. (You mean you just assume we know what we're doing?!) But fortunately, my family knew what they were doing, so they didn't need much instruction to get themselves out on the water. As you paddle around the lake, you pass the Millennium Park beach and splash pad, plus little islands here and there. There is about four miles of shoreline to explore. I was told that the lake was nice and calm, and that it was a pleasant time on the water. We rented kayaks, but Millennium Park Boat Rentals also offers canoes, paddle boats and stand-up paddle boards to rent. Keep in mind that rentals are seasonal -- this place is only open from Memorial Day-ish to Labor Day-ish.

Everyone is flocking to the more well-known parks during the government mandated stay at home…read moreorder, as we can still leave our homes to go outside and hike, exercise, bike, walk, etc. However, it's not always easy to maintain social distance at a packed park! The City of Grand Rapids is recommending you try another park if the parking lot is half full or more in order to safely social distance. My boyfriend and I checked out Aman Park the other night right before sunset as the park closes at sundown. There are a few separate parking areas leading into the park, but the one closest to the yellow gate is the closest to the trailhead. There are several different loops, but we chose the shortest one as we didn't want to be wandering around in an unknown area after dark. The whole area is wooded and I felt very secluded in nature, which was nice. We only saw one other family walking around the trails while we were there, making social distancing easy. The terrain was pretty flat and easy for me to walk. The trails are marked which makes it nice to navigate. I would highly recommend checking out this park if you'd like to be in nature while maintaining social distance.

Me personally I love the ones with steep incline and areas where you actually have to climb. I would totally recommend this places for any types of hikers. Just pick the right path.
