Within a few steps you are immersed in Autumn, sorta warm, hint of cold in the air, leaves blowing out of the trees like snow and a fantastic amount of leaves carpeting the ground. All colors - yellow, green, brown, crimson, so beautiful. I was looking for poison ivy - it can be on the trail in bright red, there is a picture at the entrance- but didn't find it. The wind was whooshing around, and you can see the Grand River as you walk into to park. The trail down to the river is step, well marked and slippery with all the leaves. Wear hiking shoes w tread. The trail has fantastic rock formations, erosion of the soft stone plays a critical part in the unique formation, ridges, ledges, springs and seeps, and crevices. The rocks can be slippery and there are roots interspersed in the leaves. It was slow going ... but no falls or slips for me or hubby. If you have kids- help & watch them. This park is one of our oh-so-favorites in the summertime, and it's a popular place on a Friday night. ⁣ ⁣ I absolutely love walking around downtown EGR, and one of my favorite places to walk is Waterfront Park. If you follow the path to water, there is a beautiful lookout of Reeds Lake. You can admire the sun shining on the water or you can have a seat and read a book! In the summer, I love to grab ice cream at Jersey Junction and walk to this lookout. ⁣ ⁣ It's a great place to take kids, as there is always plenty of fish, tadpoles, frogs, and turtles to see! It's a great area to walk and run! You can often find people fishing at the end of the dock too! ⁣

Disc golf, to me, is like the putt putt of the skies, except you have to go somewhere specific for putt putt and I like that disc golf is available at this park & just generally at random parks throughout! It was super vibey seeing families playing disc golf as my friend & I hiked throughout the park. The park is beautiful and so scenic in the fall & our dogs loved crunching through the leaves! They got to take a nice water break along Grand River, which was perfect too! Also, I'm not sure if Fitzgerald Park includes The Ledges trail, but I'm including my review of The Ledges here anyways because I couldn't find a separate Yelp page for it! I love that the park is connected to the trail! The trail is beautiful and a lovely hike too! On one side of you is Grand River, on the other is a bunch of gorgeous and unique sedimentary rocks! And occasionally above you is a bridge! The trail isn't ideally wide enough for social distancing, so it's a bit difficult as people walking towards you are crossing paths. It's also a bit frustrating seeing all these people climbing on the rocks, when there's clearly a sign at both ends of the trail that says NOT to climb on them because they'll get eroded!! Other than that, it's a wonderful trail to hike, and if you start from Fitzgerald Park, you can walk to the downtown Grand Ledge area, where there's a fun little island park restored in the middle of the river that you can loop around at to head back down The Ledges trail back to Fitzgerald Park! It was a lovely afternoon hike through the park, trail, and island park all in all! :)

You have to pay to use the beach area & sprayground, put the playground area is huge and free. The beach area can get very crowded on weekends during the summer, so I stick to going mid-morning during the week, packing a lunch to enjoy there & then heading home for naptime. The grounds are very well maintained and there are very nice picnic shelters you can use. There is also a sand volleyball court and a walking/bike riding trails along a series of small man-made lakes. Last summer I didn't know that you could purchase an annual family pass for $40 until the summer was half over. I'll be going that route this year--we live only 10 minutes from the park and it's a welcome change of scenery for my kids, so I'm sure we'll be going almost one a week or every other week during the summer.
