I dealt with Jon for a tattoo recently and have to say, Jon and Providence Tattoo is the easiest experience ever for those looking for a tattoo. 1. When I called he was the guy who answered the phone around 2 months ago when I booked a tattoo and stated confidently he could handle what I was looking for. 2. I sent him a design that it took me a year to pick out, little did I know, it was a more common tattoo than I thought it to be (not my intention but it was meaningful to me). Jon made it up in his own style so that it does look different and unique to me. He also took my suggestions about how I wanted to change it for me. 3. The customer service I received was unrivaled. While most of the store is booked out quite a few weeks, he was easy to stay in touch with if I had an idea about how to change the design and never left me hanging for more than a day during the wait. Jon took my ideas, incorporated some of his own and I couldn't be happier. It was affordable, the customer service was awesome, the end result was above expectations. Lastly, if you are reticent about getting your first tattoo, ask for Jon, not only was he a great frigging dude, but he's fine with taking a break a few times an hour so you can both stretch out and feel comfortable. I worked with Jon on a Harry Potter tattoo on my forearm, I am beyond happy that he was able to take the inspiration picture i provided him and deliver 1000% times better. Besides him being an extremely talented artist, he was really friendly and easy going which made for a really relaxing session. My only regret is not getting the name of the front desk attendant to leave him a review as well. This place is EXCELLENT! I was born and raised in Mass, but moved to Minnesota for 15 years for work. I have seven tattoos all from one MN artist. Once I find a good artist, restaurant, repair guy, etc...I will stay with the same one because I know the value of a professional. I Was itching for my 8th so I looked into several places in Mass and RI. Some I pulled up to with people hanging out front smoking cigarettes in a dirty littered parking area or if you actually go in, the smell? Not so good. Which is why I was shocked when I walked in to Providence Tattoo. First of all, CLEAN, no one hanging out front. It smelled like a hospital in there. We were greeted right away even before the door closed. TJ was awesome he took my design and added his own touch. He did my "Celtic Tree of pain" in two hours. Attentive, a good conversationalist and epic artist. The roots represent me in my lowest and most painful time in my life. Injured my back, went through the whole opiate thing. I met my wife who saved my life. which is represented by the heart. The dog paw represents the dog that also saved my life, "Bomber" the bird on the tree branch represents my son. The upper branches are me reaching in victory. The bird flying away is my son! My wife added to her main tattoo as well and came out excellent! Go here first! Highly recommended!! I write this review with a lifetime of experience - but a lifetime with no tattoo experience, until now. At 59, for some reason, I decided to get my first tattoo. I was 'in the moment' back home in Rhode Island with my beautiful daughter and my oldest friend in the world. I actually owed my buddy a debt to get a tattoo for many years, but that's too long a story for here. To celebrate being together and getting to watch our beloved Patriots play in the Super Bowl together, we decided to get tattoos. I had always known that if I ever got a tattoo, what design it would be, so that was actually the easiest part. I worked with the artist, TJ, on getting exactly what I wanted in the size I restricted him to, and he promptly set to work to design something. I don't normally leave reviews but I had to for my tattoos. Was recommended providence tattoo by a friend who couldn't remember who her artist was so I just asked for whoever was available. I ended up having Pat do my tattoos and it was overall an awesome experience. He was super friendly and nice especially with the fact it was my first tattoos and they came out beautiful and exactly how I wanted. Couldn't be more pleased. I got a beautiful tattoo and the place was very clean and well kept. I got tattooed by Dean and he drew up my tattoo nicely and adjusted it accordingly. I was able to come in the day before, pay a $100 deposit, and get an appointment the next day! The only issue that I experienced (which didn't sink in until after I left) was that Dean told me it would take 1 or 1.5 hours MAYBE 2 hours but it ended up taking 3 hours so I ended up paying more than I expected. read more

I got my first tattoo done by Steve and it was as chill of as an experience as it can be (nerves right?). He did awesome work. This was a year ago back at their Angel st. location. They have since opened a second location on Atwell's ave. Congrats to Dennis on the second location! I have only gotten work from Steve but all the artists at the shop have been very cool when I have been in, and Dennis' work in particular is exceptional, based on his work he displays online. I have been tattooed by Steve for a year now and it has been a great experience. He gave me my first tattoo, just a simple "Mom and Dad" on my bicep and I have gone back for a year now. Steve has given me some chest work as well as a half sleeve on my arm comprised of old school, traditional, you know typical hisptery, stuff, anchors, roses whatever. Yes I have stereotypical taste, but the work and treatment I received from Steve was far beyond typical. He is a great artist and you should really check out his flash sheets and get some of his original work. He specializes in traditional stuff, think Sailor Jerry, though I don't want to pigeon hole him, I'm just basing this off his flash sheets and the work he has done on me. His work is of the best quality and his personality is great. Seriously, I love his art and have bought several paintings/ flash sheets from him which hang on my walls and get compliments. I even convinced my wife to get her first tattoo from Steve, and she loves it! Whether you want to chat or just sit and meditate during your tattoo experience, Steve will give you fantastic work and a great experience, whether it's your first tattoo or your 100th whether you wanna chat or just grit your teeth, Steve works perfectly with you and your design. The price is decent. I mean it's not cheap, you get what you pay for. But both the locations, I got work done at both, are immaculately clean. The owner, Dennis, is constantly supervising the cleanliness and directing the other artists and staff to address any problems. The attention to detail and cleanliness sets this shop apart and should make it a front runner if you're looking for the first place to get a piece. I went for 3 sessions here, all with Jon. First one I paid for 3 hours ($350) and received just over 2 hours of work. second I paid for 2 hours ($250) and got an hour of work and then was charged another 200 basically to finish coloring theblast 2 pieces and it took 30 mins. I intended on having an entire sleeve done here and needless to sayni will not be returning. I just wanted an honest artist to do all my work but inetead was rushed out all 3 times and charged top dollar for mediocre work at best. read more

When they say that getting a tattoo is addictive for some people, I can see why. For me, it was kind of a big deal. I'd been thinking about it for years and just never could decide on a place, an artist, or what I wanted. My experience with the body piercing facility upstairs actually motivated me to check on what would be involved with finally getting inked and I'm really glad I finally did. So a friend and I had called an hour and a half before closing to see if they could take a walk in for two decently small quotes we were getting. We were told time was getting tight but yes he would take us. So we get there the place itself is very nice, receptionist was nice, Now the tattoo artist who I believe his name started with a D was very rude and unprofessional. When I had showed my friend where I was putting the quote he stated "Who do you want to talk to me or your friend? Because we were just having a conversation." It was rude and uncalled for. I had told the receptionist I was all set and I received two phone calls from this place afterwards. Not sure if they were going to ask me why, but it's pretty common sense you don't treat a customer like that. I was very disappointed with this place. I have a 7 tattoos and was planning on a new one. My husband got me a gift certificate here and I am not gonna lie I was super excited. I had a couple of ideas of what i wanted but after meeting the artist I kind of lost a lot of faith. He kept trying to direct me to things HE was comfortable tattooing and now what I was asking for. When I mentioned I didn't like the idea instead of directing me to a different artist and professionally saying he wasn't up for the job I settled on updating my tattoo I've had for 18 years. Now he told me the price before he started but I was upset the impression that he would freshen up the faded tattoo. After he already started and we were talking about it he said he wouldn't be touching what was already there. I had 2 eyes on my back. He added a little shading and some eyebrows and charged me $125!
