When someone is ready to go, it is important someone there to guide you if the patient doesn't want to go elsewhere BUT stay @ home with their families UNTIL it's time for them to leave earth. That's exactly where the Hospice & Palliative Care came in to help when needed. They provided my home comfort for my mom, in 2008, when she decided to come live with me. They called in for everything SHE NEEDED, to make her life easier: bed, support, someone to come clean her, do her nails, and I can call them anytime day or night - someone is always on the phone ready for my questions or whatever I needed. I'm not a caregiver, nor have I ever worked in a hospital, nor would I ever want to, . . . but I became one instantly, just because I have that 'mother experience - two kids of my own,' and taking care of a mother was difficult specially if she became a tantrum teenager @ almost 91 years old. Very difficult indeed! It was also a chance for her & me to bond, with a happy ending. But that's not why I'm reviewing, just something to think about, why I NEVER gave up. She was my mom, afterall! Hospice & Palliative Care made it easy for me, because they are always there to guide me, & support me and give me advice, or comfort me when I'm breaking bad, and calm me down take charge once again. My mom was able to eat foods she used to eat @ home, or when she was younger . . . the hospital or any care giving home wouldn't have given her choices. Mom was able to get help when she rang the bell, or if she needed help just to go to the bathroom, or for a walk outside in my backyard, in the comfort of our secluded private backyard and a driveway where she can easily walk her walker. Or do that by herself, while I sit in my hammock, doing my quilting or reading a book, or tending my roses. Sometimes, when I visit people in hospice care, elsewhere, I feel nothing but sadness for them, because their families are nowhere to be found, or seldom visits them. They have no views in their room, but 4 walls. In my home, mom had enough to keep her entertained, and she could see my garden from her bed, or listen to piano playing next room, or someone to pray with her everyday, or read poems to her. She always have my husband & me, or families 24hrs. day or night. The Hospice & Palliative Care, care about safety, medications, equipment we were using, and they'd want us to ask questions and to help us understand the care I'm giving mom. They listen. I believe that is was also important that the doctor they provided also understands my mom's illness and they succeeded and will recommend Providence Home Services to anyone. With their help, I think I gave mom the best care she needed with their help. read more

I get my diabetic supplies from here and absolutely love the service! I have been a diabetic for 10 years, and every time I call in to order my supplies, I am treated with respect and care. The team that works here is exceptional at customer service. Kaylee is especially personable and respectful for as young as she sounds, and so is the supervisor, Heidi! If you would like good care for your family, go to another home health company. The staff, especially the management staff here only care about the bottom line and money in their pockets. Your Physician may be paid a bit extra to refer you here but the care is exceptionally poor. Please just use another company. read more

Providence is the gold standard for home healthcare services in Portland and surrounding communities. The reason I know this is because I've experienced it from the professional standpoint and the personal standpoint. I worked in case management for a local hospital for awhile. When I got ready to discharge patients home and knew they had insurance coverage for Providence Home Health, I breathed a sigh of relief. I knew absolutely what needed to be done would be done correctly and on time. The sigh of relief included knowing that any professional working with my former patients in their homes had good hearts and top-notch medical skills. My own stepmom had transplant surgery a number of years ago and had some years of health issues stemming from the transplant. I was there often when Providence Home Health professionals stopped by to help her out. They were often rays of sunshine in some bleak times for her. Over time, she got better and all is well now, but I don't believe that would have happened without Providence's expert home services. Besides their obvious superiority in the professionals they send out to the home, what puts them over the top are the folks they use in the administrative part of the business. Their case managers are long-time nurses who can really help you out with not only the medical issues but also the insurance issues. They are also outstanding communicators. The office staff is also excellent, knowledgeable, and caring. Most people have no idea what home healthcare even is until somebody they love is discharged from the hospital. I had no idea what it was all about until I worked in case management. However, I can tell you that if a case manager or a social worker mentions the words "Providence Home Healthcare," you can be assured that you will have an excellent experience. read more

I am more than impressed with Providence Home Health. They sent out a nurse 3 days a week to take care of a wound vacuum. Each nurse was so professional and knowledgeable. Each had been with Providence 15 years or more. All seemed happy with their job and employer. It showed in the care I received. Even the substitutes on holidays were superior quality. The one negative review had to be an anomaly. Everyone I dealt with went out of their way to make sure I knew how to operate my wound vac. read more

This review is primarily based on our experience with O2 and related equipment. I am writing this review with the experience of having had service of a nearly identical kind from a competing rival as well. First, let me say up front, that the delivery drivers have always been friendly and on time (and in the rare case of NOT keeping to schedule, the driver did call and inform us). My main beef is with the administrative/billing practices. Let me explain: my father uses a small portable tank in his normal mode of being. Their billing system/process breaks down the equipment provided/billed by, simply: oxygen ('A') tanks in our case, and what is listed as 'gaseous oxygen system'. At first, when we began service with them a few years ago, they insisted that we had to have to O2 concentrator -- which I explained would simply not be used (even *if* we deemed it useful or necessary, and even *if* the prescribing pulmonologist included it in his official recommendation -- which he didn't). So, after fighting back the bureaucracy to NOT have the concentrator, we are left with ongoing service to bring oxygen tanks to the house (with metered regular) on an approx. monthly basis. This works for us, and is consist with the doctor's prescription / recommendations. Here is summary of our rather less than stellar experience with PMS -- they (eg; Providence insurance bean counters or PMS claims processors/billing people themselves) 'decided' NOT to submit claims for one of the items I described above -- for the ENTIRE YEAR. At the end of last year (CY 2017), they send out a bill for $350+ approx. The sad, and I believe highly misleading aspect about this situation, is that it took 3 different conversations with PMS staff to get an admission and decent explanation of what was going on. The billing representative said, and I recall this to the best of my memory: 'well, insurance has the legal right to sit on a claim for up to a year and that's what they did with [with items provided -- but curiously, not for the other item...]. She explained this because this apparently is standard practice -- or at least, not uncommon to her. The fact that the service was rendered, and we were receiving regular statements/bills from PMS but none had even a scant mention that the pending charges were being 'sat on' all freakin' year long! I informed the billing representative that not only our conversation be followed with personal letter to the director of PMS (and perhaps the larger parent --Providence Health Plans as well). The OR AG's office and Insurance Commissioner should check them out too. They are HIGHLY deceptive in their billing practices -- and being that it involves Medicare / elderly patients, it is particularly unnerving. If you can, use Apria . Our experience with them was FAR, FAR better, and we NEVER had been pressured nor forced to use equipment we did not want and we NEVER had any lack of clarity or problems in dealing with insurance or billing. AND, they cost essentially the same or even slightly less. Finally, because a close family member had a recent hospitalization, one of the nurses or assistants confided to me before release, she said to me 'watch the Home Health and Medical Services people closely -- they do some shady stuff'. Very disappointed. Doctor said they would bring nebulizer to my 93 year old dad and explain clearly how to use it. They made no call to let us know in advance when they would arrive. They came and dropped it off while Dad was at dinner. No explanation, nothing to help us in its use and care. read more
