This is a place, a college with LOTS of beauty. My uncle is a Priest/Dominican friar/Assistant Dean to this amazing college in Rhode Island. The campus is peaceful and serene. My favorite things are they have Dunkin' Donuts coffee there, they have a beautiful walking track and the chapel is BEAUTIFUL. It truly is an amazing campus to see and what a beautiful experience walking through the walk ways enjoying college life. read more

For my 300th review I figured I needed to discuss someplace really special - and what could be more special than my alma mater, Providence College. Although I graduated a number of years ago the lessons I learned and the strong moral foundation I received at PC stays with me every day. It gave me a strong academic foundation that eventually led me to the career I follow today. Founded in 1917, PC is steeped in intellectual traditions that date back centuries and have withstood the ravages of fashion and change. The lengthy Development of Western Civilization program provides a strong liberal arts foundation for all students and encourages a sense of scholarly inquiry that pervades every course of study at the college. Moreover, the Dominican tradition encourages a strong faith that engages the heart, mind, and soul. Attending PC, and being a part of the Providence community is a singular experience that changes a person forever - in a good, charitable, and positive way. In rating PC so highly I could talk about the many additions that have been made at the campus over the past few decades. I could go on about its technological improvements, the specialized schools, and all of the good changes and new things that have kept it a truly top-notch four-year institution. However, as a college is only as good as the students it graduates I think a brief example would suffice. Back a couple of weeks ago I entered a series of three races north of Boston. I wore my old PC sweatshirt, and after finishing I ran into a young lady wearing a PC Rugby pullover. She is a teacher, just south of Boston, and impressed me with her dedication to her career, her level of intellectual reasoning, and the overall maturity that she displayed. Over the next two races I saw her, and met some of her fellow graduates and they all impressed me the same way. If, over the course of nearly a quarter century, the quality of PC's graduates is as high as those recent ones, the school has succeeded in its mission quite admirably. St. Thomas Aquinas would be proud. read more

Seriously? No one has reviewed PC, my alma mater? The shame! I loved my four years at Providence fiercely and would highly recommend the experience to any high school junior on the search for a good liberal arts education at a reasonable price. While students often grumble about the mandatory, daily, two-year Development of Western Civilization program, I can't tell you how many times I use knowledge gleaned from the seminars of these classes. It's made me a bar trivia champ! Great professors include Father McGonigle, Dr. Stephen Lynch (Shakespeare extraordinaire), and Dr. Suzanne Fournier (extremely challenging Modern American Literature professor and English Department Head). Important to note: PC students know how to push scholastics to the side and party. The campus is surrounded by some "lower income areas," which means that you need to travel in packs and be mindful of your surroundings. It also means that beers are $2 and mixed drinks can be found for as low as $1. Who cares that Louie's, one of the most popular campus bars, has a trough in the men's bathroom? Who cares that another frequent watering hole is a former Club Eagles, complete with a built-in sketchy local checking out the coeds? Who cares that the biggest party of the year is called "Ridiculousfest," giving students the reputations of slackers. All part of PC's charm. Definitely some of the best years of my life thus far. read more

PC is an incredibly tricky review because it's really quite a lovely liberal arts college, but there are quite a few cons to it as well. The pros: -The faculty are well qualified and diligent--yes! -On campus facilities are state-of-the-art. -Scheduling of courses was always an easy process. -Online services actually work, all the time. -So many wonderful students in the graduate programs!! The cons: -If you go there for graduate school, be prepared to work a lot harder than anyone who also attended PC for undergrad. There's blatant favoritism at play. -It's not really in the best neighborhood. It's great that there's a community of college students living around the campus but the students do a good job of trashing the neighborhood almost every night. It's a shame they aren't held accountable. Also be very careful if you drive, because drunk college students start vomiting in the middle of the street around 9 pm and don't stop until 4 am. -God forbid you live on RIPTA route 55 and have to take the bus. Prepare for droves of screaming drunks who occasionally get rowdy, act entitled, and are almost always incredibly racist. read more

I enjoyed the AQ experience. I'm sure you will too. The faculty are top notch and the facilities are state of the art. The school allowed me to be creative and learn about many things I never would have considered. Who know you could take a Jewish history class with a rabbi at a catholic college. It's important to keep an open mind and this is a testament to that. It's small which allows you to thrive if you're motivated. Classes are all under 30 people other than into science courses. Admin are helpful and really care. read more

Surprised there's only 1 review here. Enjoyed my multiple visits here, even when I wasn't at the basketball games. Nice campus, if not a bit preppy and presumptuous, with some great grounds. ResLife is too strict for me, so I preferred visiting when friends got off-campus digs. read more

Awful place. When students are caught for plagiarism by faculty and reported to the dean, the dean does nothing and thinks it is OK. Seriously? If any news reports this stuff, it is gonna be a big scandal. Faculty members all know this problem, nobody bother to fight. Basically it means it is a college where you admit a bunch of rich students, get their tuition and money, and let them pass everything. I would not like to hire any of the students produced under this kind of environment. On the other hand, this review will be attractive to students who want to plagiarize. read more

I am not an employee but I had an on-site interview for a prospective employment opportunity inside the Philips Memorial Library. Let me tell you, the library is nice on the inside and out and in a decent location however, the staff members (both the student staff and supervisor employee on duty) who I initially saw, treated me with sub-par respect. I know I'm a pretty easy and outgoing person and a visitor but the library lacks customer service etiquette and training skills. My first impressions to others is to be aware of the greeting you may encounter. read more

Let me start off my saying that Providence College somehow manages to attract/select some of the best and most genuinely friendly and sociable people each year. For this and many other reasons PC was easily the best 4 years of my life. People who knock it are usually a) students/alums who wanted to go to BC/Notre Dame/a more nationally known private school but didn't get in or couldn't afford it or b) alums/students who realized too late in the game that they would have preferred a more liberal university approach rather than a more conservative one. Spoiler alert: Providence is a Catholic school founded in the Dominican tradition. You will have to take the Development of Western Civilization as one of your core requirements to graduate (a program that I personally found academically rewarding). Regardless of what you believe is the best approach to a university education, the bottom line is that when YOU decide to attend a more traditional Catholic school, you can't then complain all day that the focus of certain core requirements is Judeo-Christian/Western Civ centered. I personally believe that this sense of tradition, morals, and values is an amazing part of PC. It not only fostered my academic growth, but also contributed to a very potent sense of community. PC is a fairly small school with about 1,000 students in each grade. It wouldn't hurt if it were a little bit bigger, but I wouldn't trade the sense of community at PC for anything. You can't walk to class without seeing a few familiar faces and waving to a few friends. Class sizes are generally small which allows you to get to know your professors and classmates and allows for good class discussion. There are tons of activities to get involved in. While you have to interview or "try out" to become a part of the bigger student-run organizations and performance-based clubs (i.e. a capella), there really is something for everyone. It's hard to find a PC student who hasn't been involved in some type of organization or service activity at some point in their college career. The campus itself is pretty but not beautiful, although it's always improving. Definitely exudes a real college-campus feel. While PC may be similar to schools such as Fairfield and Holy Cross, the fact that PC is actually right next to a city definitely gives it one-up socially. The PC shuttle can take you to downtown Providence or East Providence, which is right by Brown University. If you ever get bored on campus, which isn't very often, exploring Providence is a great option. It may be a smaller city but it's accessible and has basically everything you need in terms of restaurants/shopping/bars/coffee shops. The fact that we have a decent basketball team in the Big East also provides for fun "Friar Fanatic" school spirit, although it's no secret that we're not as die hard as Duke fans or anything like that. It would be cool if we were that good, maybe someday. In terms of the students themselves, many go by the mantra "work hard, play hard" or "work hard, play harder" depending on who you ask. PC students are very social and like to go out at the nearby bars, nearby upperclassmen houses, or in the city of Providence itself. There are a lot of fun social traditions that keep things exciting on and off campus. Basically, the people are incredible, fun, and friendly, and by your senior year you have tons of lifelong friends. Yes, it's unfortunate that the tuition has gone up, but unfortunately that seems to be the asking price so to speak of all the private schools in that category. You can't knock PC for raising the price to its competitors. I just hope that the student demographic (genuine, generally intelligent and down to earth) doesn't change because of the price increase.
