I was frankly a little skeptical about taking my 9-10 year old Craftsman 24" snow blower (that's…read morenever been serviced) to Nelson's after reading all the negative feedback on Yelp, but it wasn't starting up and I had no clue how to fix it. The guy there was nice and helped me get it out of the back of my SUV. When I asked for quote for figuring out why it's not starting up, he said they charge $85/hour and would call me with an estimate once they take a look at it. I dropped it off on Saturday, Mar.14. They called me with a detail quote two business days later on Tuesday, Mar.17. They suggested more efficient and cost effective way of fixing it would be replacing the carb assembly. They also pointed out one of my tires was low which caused the auger scraper to wear unevenly and recommended replacing that as well. Spark plug was original and new one was pretty cheap, so I asked him to replace it, too. By Thursday, Mar.19, they fixed the engine not starting issue with the new card assembly, put in a new spark plug, tire innertube, new auger scraper, flushed the fuel system and put in some non ethanol fuel, which they told me has a 12 month shelf life, so I can keep that in the tank till next season vs regular gas only lasts about 30 - 45 days, so that should always be used up before storing it away after the winter. All that (see the last pic of the invoice for more detail) for $243.08 and some great advice along the way. Hopefully the snow blower will last many more seasons, especially now that I know how to better take care of it. I guess others who left all that negative feedback and low rating had some bad experience, but mine was great and I would certainly recommend giving Nelson Bros a shot! Hope this review was helpful and I'm sorry about the bad pics.

Cool little family run business serving the Mequon area for decades! It looks like the majority of…read moretheir clients come in for equipment service. There is always an abundance of machines queued up on the South side & back of the building awaiting service attention. The new equipment showroom is small, but packed to the ceiling with all your lawn & garden needs. You'll find a few bigger new machines displayed on the front lawn too. I've stopped in a few times for parts. They always have my item stocked, but expect to pay full retail. Serious money can be saved by shopping parts online. Although, sometime you just can't wait on shipping & have to overpay. The garden center does have some rental equipment available. Propane re-fills are also available.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. We needed our riding lawn mower repaired so we asked someone to…read morecome out and take a look. At first we didn't think anyone would be home and they told us to just leave the mower out and they'd fix it. REMEMBER THIS, they would have had to call us eventually to tell us it was repaired or ask what was wrong in the first place. My grandparents were the only ones home so they answered when the technician arrived. They are from another country, English is not their first language. They tried their best to explain what was wrong but didn't get the message across, my mother was at work but was available to call and translate for the technician but he REFUSED. My grandma ended up calling her herself and held the phone up to explain what was wrong, (the mower wouldn't start) a back and forth argument ensued about how my grandparents told him one thing and my mom was telling him another. And eventually he ended up spraying starting fluid and charging $120 for it and leaving. My mother later decided to text the company and let them know their technician was extremely rude and unprofessional about the entire situation. Just know if you are a US citizen that speaks English as a second language YOU ARE NOT A VALUED CUSTOMER HERE. We offered a way to remediate the situation and you refused and argued, that's on you not us. Do better. In the texts he mentions we should have been onsite and that they can't do the job if they can't communicate with us, yet they tell us to leave the mower outside when nobody is home? That doesn't add up, which do you want? If anyone takes the time to read this just know I'm not making this review because my feelings were hurt, I'm making this review because people deserve to know the kind of service they're paying for. This company's lack of professionalism, blatant disregard for customer communication, and discriminatory attitude toward non-native English speakers is unacceptable. Businesses that operate with such poor standards and hostility toward their customers should not be rewarded with your hard-earned money. Take your business elsewhere--somewhere that values all customers equally and treats them with the respect they deserve.

I did what you are not supposed to do and threw a tarp instead of snow threw my two stage snow blower and bent the blade. Brought it in and had the initial diagnosis and hoping the axle is not bent too. Within 6 hours (This is February) John called me to tell me the good news and then the bad news. A few other things like bearings scrape plate and skid plates (he said he would just flip them so no need to buy parts for that) would need replacing. The minimum was the scrape plate to do but the labor to do all of this was one hour ($80) and it would take him a total of an hour to do everything so why wait. John was very honest so I didn't hesitate to have him repair everything. With it being mid winter he said it would be 5-10 days but it was only because he is waiting on the parts. Not bad at all. Check out his facility. Very clean and organized which tells me John takes pride in his work and business. With spring almost here, I wasn't sure if I would be able to try the snow blower since being fixed. Well, Wisconsin and yet another heavy snow fall and I was able to try it out. I can say, it runs like new and I can't remember it ever running like this. All the things bad on it I just got use to. I think overall, this was a really good value in terms of price and quality. You can't put a price on honesty too and I haven't done a great deal of work with John, but I trust him.
