The instructors you find with NASTC are at the highest levels nationally and internationally. These are the instructors that TEACH the instructors! I started with NASTC as a weak intermediate skier having tried several other highly touted ski "camps". The instructors at NASTC took the time to really dig into the reasons I wasn't progressing (physical fitness, focused equipment choices, fear on challenging terrain) and helped me set up the building blocks for real success. I made so much progress in my first week with them that I immediately booked a second course. I've been skiing with NASTC every winter since (and in some of the most beautiful locales in the world: St Anton, Portillo, Chile, Verbier, La Grave!). NASTC helped me develop from a "blue groomer girl" to a confident skier that doesn't think twice about tackling black and double black terrain. If you are looking for real, measurable improvement in your skiing, don't think twice. NASTC is the real deal.

The mountain views are spectacular, perched at the top of Donner Summit but offering easy access from Interstate 80. In addition to offering season-long training programs which vary in intensity and duration (from novices to pros), the facility has 25 km of groomed cross country trails. Several years ago, they began opening the trails to the public (previously it was a members-only facility). You can now purchase a full or half-day pass and rent poles, skis, and boots. A full day (pass and equipment) for adults is a great deal at $38. A commercial kitchen provides the essentials to store or prepare a lunch, and the downstairs offers locker storage (unlocked for guests) and showers. For kiddos that are just learning to cross-country ski, their Super Sliders program (which also offers drop-ins- lesson and equipment included) for the 4-10 year-old set is a great way to introduce skiing to kids. Coach Meg is awesome with little ones! In short, this is a destination for many training teams and ski races while also encouraging new skiers to explore and test their limits. The center is a hub for skiers of all levels and abilities- from pro to novice. Give it a shot!

There was minimal to no assessment of my injury and I wound up sidestepping/ sliding/ skinning back to the car a few miles away with essentially minimal help/support. When I mentioned that I couldn't bear weight on my injured ankle I was instead given advice to "keep your weight forward and lean into the fall line". I was in a mild to moderate degree of shock by the time I reached my car. No one outreached me afterward. When I reached out to Tahoe Mountain School after the event with some constructive feedback the response that I received was " Sorry, we heard that the issue was due to lack of skier ability". I'll be the first to admit that my skiing ability was indeed severely compromised by a fractured ankle that required surgery but somehow they seemed to miss the point about doing a basic assessment. As a physician and SAR volunteer (unknown to those in the class) I'd grade the response to real life backcountry injury an "F" and the company's response to feedback as tone deaf.

Also taught us how to use our beacons, and the procedure for skiing with a buddy. Excellent course far exceeding my expectations, and I am excited to have this new wonderful hobby.

He was a nice older man, but I felt like he spent more time trying to remember everyone's name rather than teaching us how to ski. We spent forever learning how to clip in and out of the skis. We then learned how to walk uphill with our skis. We rode the Magic Carpet and made our way downhill. We didn't even go down the bunny slopes. We ended the lesson by riding the Easy Rider ski lift and made our way downhill. I would've liked if we spent more time mastering proper form and technique, especially how to turn properly, rather than rushing us straight to the top of Easy Rider hill. As neither of us had ever skied before, we thought the price we paid for the lesson was fair. For $225/person, it included the 2-hour lesson, ski rentals, and a ski lift ticket valid for the remainder of the day. The young gentlemen working the equipment rentals were very friendly. Most if not all of them appeared to be seasonal workers from other countries.

There were seven of us, and we would practice how to strap in, take the magic carpet, ride with one and two straps on, as well as practice both heel/toe side. Very impressed, we could do a lot in about 2 hrs. We practiced going on the bunny slope about 2-3 times on our own. He took the time to help individuals out who were struggling and always waited to make sure we were together as a group before going back up the hill. Definitely appreciated the encouragement as well as the motivation to just try without handing it to us on a platter. Very reasonable price and highly worth the chance to take a lesson.

We were ready and eager to take it to the next level. We had tried "on the mountain" lessons but were frustrated that in a one-hour lesson you only received about 8 minutes of actual instruction. As soon as we saw the picture in the RGJ of Kris giving instruction on the "treadmill", we knew that this was what we were looking for. We called Kris right away and signed up for the introductory lesson. The bad news is that Kris told us that we were skiing totally wrong. The good news is that we already knew that, and Kris immediately got to work on building a strong skiing foundation. The intro lesson was such a smash hit that when we went skiing the next day we both called it "the first real skiing day of our lives". We are now on lesson five of the twelve-lesson series, and we are seeing improvement at each lesson, and more importantly we are seeing improvement on the slopes. Kris is a great teacher, and the treadmill allows instant feedback. If you are serious about learning to ski properly and taking your skills to the next level, we can highly recommend Kris and the Biste method.

We offer one on one training on our ski simulator called the #SnowBiste and teach using our unique training methodology called the #BisteMethod. Our Method is a paradigm shift to the way skiing and snowboarding have been taught in the past. 1) We can teach you 10X faster than traditional means. 2) Our teaching process is a lot less expensive. There is no lift ticket and no rental equipment, we supply it. 3) We are a lot closer than the mountains saving you time. We are located in Reno. A half hour session of training on the Snow Biste equals a full day of skiing on the mountain. 4) We are not limited to daylight (banker) hours. We offer our training sessions at times that fit 'Your Schedule' and hectic lifestyle. 5) We teach both never-evers (skiers and snowboarders) and advanced ski racing athletes how to get to the next level.
