This was my first tattoo experience and I'm glad Propaganda Tattoo was the shop I walked into. I was visiting SD for the weekend with some friends and had been itching to get a tattoo. Ended up seeing some great reviews on yelp about this shop and some friends and I decided to grab some scooters and take a look at the place. We walked in and we were greeted immediately by everyone in there, very welcoming. I didn't have an appointment but Teer, who owns the shop, offered to help me out. As my first tattoo, I was feeling nervous/anxious but Teer was super cool making me feel comfortable telling interesting/funny stories to keep me distracted and making sure the piece looked how I wanted it to look even when I was unsure. I walked in and inquired nicely to get a small wrist tattoo on the same day weeks ago and the lady artist who spoke to me didn't seem very accommodating and tossed me to the other artist, Ashley who ended up doing the work. I didn't mind because she did a good job but I felt dismissed initally for no reason. She said to take out the plastic sheet in 3 days and moisture it which I did and it turned out well. I came back the following week to get a tat on the ankle with the same artist. The owner kept annoying us with unsolicited banters and racist jokes while we were stenciling which is delaying the work because the artist was getting distracted and I had somewhere to go after that. Again, Ashley did a great job with the tat work and design but didn't tell me what the after care is even when I asked. She just said that I can take out the plastic sheet whenever I wanted and that's it. The tat got infected because I did exactly that. (Photo attached.) Took out the sheet the next day and carried on with life. Didn't take care of it because there was no proper instruction given. So now the tat got infected and my dermatologist is the one helping me take care of it right now. Hopefully it's nothing serious. I've been contacting the artist but she hasn't been responding. They also said they only take cash for small tats which I, fortunately had, but in here it says it's possible to do Apple Pay or credit card. So it doesn't make sense why they said that. So yeah, great job on the design and the work itself. But very poor reviews in terms of accommodating new clients, customer care and follow up. Definitely getting my next tat somewhere else. read more

Recently, I went into remission from a debilitating disease, and this tattoo is a symbol of that fight that I went to get to this point. So, for Jason to draw up something so beautiful is without a doubt a heartwarming thing to do. I have absolutely zero complaints about this shop! As soon as I walked in I was greeted and helped out by Ashley. I showed her a Vegvisir and Helm of Awe, both of which are very specific designs. She drew them up perfectly and gave me some suggestions on sizing due to the intricacy of the Vegvisir. I had the stencils on me no more than 30 minutes after walking into the shop. Throughout the whole process Ashley made genuine conversation which was really nice. There's nothing worse than sitting for 3 hours getting a piece done with nothing but small talk. The last tattoo I got was 7 years ago and I was a little nervous since it had been so long. Ashley made the process very comfortable and the time flew by! She also took her time to make sure every line was perfect. Great line work! The owner of the shop (I'm pretty sure he's the owner) came in and started cracking jokes so that made the experience even better. I could tell that the shop treats every client as a "regular" instead of a cattle call shop. If you're ever in the San Diego area and you want to get a tattoo, Propaganda is the place to go! The price was incredibly reasonable and the people that work there are amazing at what they do and they're super personable and knowledgeable. After researching what people had to say around town (and MAN are there a lot of tattoo spots in San Diego...hello military town!) I found Propaganda Tattoo. I checked out their website, reviewed the artists' galleries and liked what I saw. So last Saturday I had the day off and decided to take a chance and did a walk in to see if they had open spots. I never recommend doing that as a general rule, but this time even I made an exception. I was immediately greeted by Brad. He was very nice and told me he didn't have an open spot that day, but he called up Travis who was available 90minutes later. Perfect! So we kicked around Point Loma killing time and came back. Travis sketched up my idea I wanted after I showed him a picture. I picked out a design for a Ogham tattoo and I really wanted to make sure it looked like brush strokes, and he really nailed it. Another kudos to Travis, it's like he knew when the pain was getting intense for me because right as I was about to say ok that's enough, he would let up for a moment. It may just be the timing of adding ink to the tattoo gun, but never was the pain too intense. Thank you Travis for my lovely new tattoo! He had another free spot after me, so my husband also got his tree of life tattoo done. Travis once again took his time and made the tattoo look fantastic. Very happy with the results of both our tattoos. Good price, friendly staff. The parking lot has practically no spots but I won't hold that against them. That's all of Point Loma short of Liberty Station. Heads up to anyone looking for a smaller and simple tattoo, this place is $100 minimum. Also, you must be 18 with ID to get inked here. I went in on 11/28/17 to talk with Marianne, who's work I had seen and admired via Instagram, regarding pricing and the concept I had in mind. Lets just say Marianne was amazing to talk to, super upbeat and friendly. She totally understood my vision and was able to provided feedback on how it would translate from paper to flesh. You better believe I put the deposit down right then and there. 12/06/18 rolls around and I show up for the appointment. Let's just say, her sketch blew me away. She tweaked a few things from our original discussion so that the tattoo would flow better with my body, which really showed her great attention to detail. Total time was around 3 to 4 hours, I honestly lost track due my adrenaline and my need to distract myself towards the tail end of the process. Marianne was great to talk to and kept me at ease during the whole process. I am still over the moon with my experience and my new tattoo.
