I have to agree with everyone's reviews so far. Pronto is the only gay bar in Royal Oak and it seems as though they have taken advantage of that. The food is good...but the service is the worst I've had in my life. I've been told they are trying to overhaul their service staff...but it seems as though that is going no where. How hard is it to find good servers mostly in this economy when so many people do not have a job. I've been there a few times and the service is consistantly bad. I went there as a single diner before and the server took my order and never came back...I had to go to the bar to get a refill on my drink and I had to hunt the server down to get my check. I went there again with my family and he brought everyone's drink but mine and when I asked again for it I was almost done with my meal before he ever brought it. I have found a place called restaurant connection...it is a food delivery service and if you order from pronto they get you the food faster than your server will! As for the nightclub atmosphere...I've noticed you don't get good service from the bartender unless you open a tab. Most of them are shallow and if they aren't attracted to you they don't want to serve you. The drinks are totally overpriced. I've been to fine dining restaurants that have far better food for around the same price and drinks that aren't so expensive. If you are intersted in dining at Pronto...go ahead...just don't expect too much. read more

This is one of my favorite spots. I enjoy the unique menu. I am a fan of their many sandwiches. My birthday club enjoys the fabulous dessert layout. The service has gone down a bit over the years but the food ranks at the top. It is simple cuisine with a twist. You must try the sweet potato fries and the barley soup. I like their hummous as well. Did I mention the cheesecakes are "off the chain". The cupcakes are dry. The red velvet is not your mothers red velvet cake. Otherwise this is a restaurant worth trying. read more

Service was great (thank you Michael! ), and the food was delicious. My boyfriends beer did come out flat and his pot pie came out cold at the bottom, but these issues really weren't the server's fault and were quickly fixed. All of our food, including the pot pie once it was fixed, was delicious. We also finished with two slices of torte and one slice of cheese cake. All three desserts were fantastic. Be warned though that the portion sizes are quite large. We split three days between four people and everyone took a some home. read more

I am going to do two reviews for this place. The one star review goes to the BAR. Patron wise this place attracts the douche bag of the gays. Think gays who don't know how to properly wash their asses and must bathe and douche with the fancy colognes and think their shit don't stink. As for as bar staff well that is also craptastic. A few friends and I walk in and head right to the bar to get our drink on. We are on holiday and we want to get our drink on! The male bartender that was working on 2/19/11 was a complete douche asshole! He rudely takes and gives my friends their orders and tries to pass of a beer that is almost half head to a friend who ordered the beer. Luckily the lovely female bartender made him pour another. He was not happy that she called him on his poor pouring skills. When it came time for me to order my bevie I flatly told him I did not want him to serve me cause I thought he was rude and I didn't like his service and asked for the lovely female bartender. I haven't been treated so rudely by a bartender in the mid west before. The service I saw from him I would expect from some where like West Hollywood or SOBE, not Detroit. So as a result I will not be stepping foot into the bar. read more

I am a Royal Oak resident and business owner and I can honestly say that this restaurant has total indifference towards its customers. I have eaten here several times and many of those times the service has been beyond abysmal. Today, however was deplorable. After waiting for almost 40 minutes for an omelette, the waiter was rude and didn't apologize. In fact, he explained it was "no big deal" and it "was only 20 minutes". After working in a restaurant for almost 7 years in my youth, it was clear the waiter had forgotten to put in the order. After seeing many waiters just standing around as the restaurant wasn't that busy, I demanded to see the manager. I waited what seemed like another ten minutes and the manager brought out the food. She offered no apologies or discounts. She didn't even come back to see if everything was ok. I can honestly say I am disgusted by their lack of compassion towards the patrons that pay the manager's salary. You would think that the people that run this place would want their customers to think they value their experience. They clearly do not. This is just another case of managers who just "say it's just one customer". Sadly too many restaurants these do not care about customer service. I will never eat here again. Awful. read more

Bloody Mary bar was great. Dining room floor dirty. It was sticky. Dining room could use some tic.

My first time here, I walked in and was not greeted by a host or hostess. There were 2 waiters sitting in the back and just told me to go sit wherever and did not even get up to come and show me where to go. When I sat outside the other waiter came up to me and was unsure whether I was dining or not, then got snappy and told me I needed to let someone know that I was here in order to be served. I told him the 2 waiters inside told me I could sit out here and he said "oh well that's not right, I need to have a talk with them." He then gave me a menu and did not return to take my order until 20 minutes later. I ordered a veggie burger and it was okay, terrible service, would not come back. read more

We chose Pronto when the wait at Cafe Muse was almost an hour. Strong smell of Lysol at the entrance. Servings are very big and interesting. The place seems to be doing great but not sure I would go back. Excellent strong coffee. read more

I should start by saying I am a huge fan of pronto. I love the patios, the food is great, the prices completely reasonable. Additionally the back patio is incredibly kid friendly and as a parent of two this is important. It's for this reason we do brunch at pronto nearly every Sunday. All of this said the hostess service is absolutely atrocious. There are three separate incidences in the last month where she has been less than accommodating. First, on Mother's Day. We arrived as a rather large group - 9 of us - immediately as the restaurant was opening in hopes we might be able to beat the morning crowd. When we walked in and told the hostess we had nine she immediately responded with "absolutely not." We then asked if we could be split up to tables near each other and she told us she had way too many reservations coming in at 9. With a large group we waited outside discussing what our next move was and by about 9:30 noticed that there was yet to be one person seated outside on the patio. The inside also looked rather empty. One person from our group asked a passing server if they were seating the patio to which he responded "yes, we just aren't very busy yet this morning." Thankfully upon explaining the situation to him he was able to get us 4 tables all next to each other. Also important to note, not one additional table was seated on the patio the entire time we were there. The second occasion was the following Sunday where a group of 5 of us asked to be seated on the back patio to which the same hostess told us it wasn't open yet. Knowing her previous willingness to help I ventured to the back patio to see 4 tables all enjoying breakfast. I then again asked a server who promptly moved two tables together and brought out menu's for us. Finally, just last weekend another large group outing with 4 adults and 5 children (yes, 5!!!). We asked the same hostess for a seat on the back patio as anyone in the restaurant industry can attest to 5 kids inside is the making of a horror film. Naturally she responded that the back patio was completely full. But that she could get us a table inside. We initially agreed but in true form I ventured outside to see just how full the patio was. 2 tables seated back there. So again, I went to the front this time to the hostess and explained that there was plenty of room and that it really is in everyone's best interest to have the 5 kids in our party outdoors. She then told me that what she meant was that she had just seated a number of tables back there at the same time. Again, let me remind you there were only two tables seated outside. Thankfully another server came to the rescue overhearing our conversation, intervening and telling us "there's tons of room, let's put a couple tables together for you." All in all we will still return to pronto and most likely continue to enjoy brunch there every Sunday. The hostess is terrible and I hope management will either spend more time training her on how to properly accommodate parties, who happen to spend a good amount of money on any given visit, or replace her with someone more adept at their job. And while the hostess is my main reason for the two star review as she puts a damper on the overall experience I must say the serving staff is fantastic. Not only have they saved our seating situations every time they are quick, friendly and pleasant. read more

Pronto! is a fun place to go, especially if you are of the queer-minded persuasion. Their bar has a great selection of beers, but the prices of beer and liquor are a tad too much. Don't expect specials here, either. The food on the other hand....it's a tad "meh". I have had many of the sandwiches and the pizza once (don't ever get the pizza), and all of it was just nothing special. Their desserts, although I've never had one, do look very very tasty, that might be this place's saving grace as far as the grub is concerned. The service also is very hit or miss. Sometimes I am greeted with a fabulous smiling face, but one more than a couple occasions, I was forced to have an extremely bitchy and scoffing server who could give 2 shits less about their job. I wish this place was a bit more consistent and less dramatic...Very fun at night though, as they play amazing music videos that would make even the most bitter queen place a smile on their face. Decent sandwich spot downtown....IF you choose the right sandwich. Fries, sides, and service are on par for the area. Adult beverages are no-frills but solid. Ambiance leaves much to be desired. If you are not familiar with the area, Lunch is not this restaurant's big draw. Pronto offers the RO area nightlife an unmatched LGBTQA friendly social spot. The food and desserts at Pronto are fantastic, but the service was just okay. I'm not sure if our waiter actually spoke English because he barely uttered a word to us the entire time we were there. In the bakery area we were sort of acknowledged as we waited to place our orders, and although the place only seemed to be at about half its capacity, the staff seemed to be too busy to help us. Went there today for Sunday brunch with a group of 8, the service was something out of Restaurant Impossible! Actually, so was the food. I thought Robert Irvine would walk in any moment and close the Kitchen.Eggs and toast was powered type scrambles and the toast came as plain bread! It was really quite bizarre. The angus burger way over cooked, the fries cold and soggy. The fried pickles are very good! Service is chaotic and more like Something out of the Marx brothers! I cannot believe they are still open. Our meals staggered out one at a time over about 20 minutes.Try Lilly's down the street for a decent brunch. Nothing Pronto about this ridiculous excuse for a restaurant.I believe part of our problem is that our group is all retires and straight! Families and straights were seated on one side of the building, gays on the other. They cannot legally discriminate; they just make sure you never come back! read more

I had a brunch with friends once and I was still a little hungover from the night before, the bartender brought me chicken broth in a coffee cup and I was cured! Sadly, this place has changed enormously since it changed hands a few years ago....and not for the better. First we'll start with the restaurant. Plain and simple? The food goes from mediocre to just plain bad. I was there recently and I ordered a sandwich and it was a disaster. Unless of course you're a fan of bread sandwiches. I mean there was nothing on it except for a rubbery piece of cheese and a very sad and goopy piece of avocado. I used to come here all of the time and maybe the food wasn't great...but it was fair edible food. I so wanted it to be good...now the service... the waiter was cute enough but someone needs to tell him that good looks are only going to get him so far in this life...I mean he wasn't THAT cute and his incompetence was astonishing. I waited 15 minutes for water....and it feels like most of the staff is under skilled and/or under trained. NO ONE SHOULD WAIT 40 MINUTES FOR A SANDWICH...and one of the most troubling things of all about this place? it's dirty! they need to hire a commercial cleaning service and clean this place from top to bottom...and then they need to hire a night porter to KEEP the place clean. Now for the bar portion. It's puzzling to me how they hire the bartenders in this place. It seems as though the criteria is a rude, inattentive, incompetent and self involved diva.... I understand that when it's really busy you might have to wait a while for service. But when it's a little slower and you're sitting at the bar waiting for some one to get you a drink and he's over in the corner talking with a cute boy(or boys) or fiddling with the videos so he can get it to play some music that he(and only he) thinks is cool...it unacceptable. Last time I was there I waited 10 minutes and when the bartender FINALLY came over to take my order he said "how long have you been sitting here? you should have said something" LOL....so the onus is on me? I WISH I could have said something nice about Pronto...it was one of my favorite places to go and socialize, but it seems to me they've gone WAY off of the track. What a great find! Sit outside, weather permitting and order the Hummus. Hummus in Detroit is a Greek staple and this place does it as well as any in this city of Greeks! Then go for either the Greek Salad with hot, fresh pita bread, or flip the menu over and just point at any of the fresh/baked, collosal sandwiches they have on the back. amazing stuff in a fun setting. They don't carry Zodiac here, bummer, but order a Martini anyway, it's fun to sit there, watch the Royal Oak crowd (You have to love the mix of the fine people of Royal Oak) and just have a great time in a great place read more

I had heard this was not a place to eat before but decided to try anyways. Not only we had to wait one hour after ordering our food to get it, the potatoes were somehow frozen and too hot at the same time. The coffee tasted like it had been made a week ago and the server spilled it every single time he brought it to the table, not apologizing a single time. The environment is noisy and has no acoustic treatment at all. Plan on ordering your check 45 min before you have to leave because this is how long it takes for it to come. read more

Usually like this place. Ordered some carry out the other day. Was told it would be ready in 15 minutes, which I thought was pretty quick. Showed up about 20 minutes after ordering. The order was not ready. Eventually the majority of the order came out but I was told they were waiting for one appetizer to come out and I'd be on my way. I waited patiently for about 15 more minutes until I finally asked what is going on. Once I said something the hostess walked right back to the kitchen and came out with the appetizer. So, all in all, after being quoted 15 minutes to pick up my food, it took about 40 minutes before I was on my way and my whole order was cold aside from the 1 appetizer. Overall a poor experience. I have not been here in quite a while but had lunch there today. To quote another review, What happened to this place?? It was FILTHY. In fact we considered leaving since we were sitting next to the dessert cooler which was so loud, I think it was dying, no music, everything just looked so dated and dirty. I felt like I was eating in a basement. My friend went to the bathroom after we ate and said if she had gone in there beforehand we would have left for sure. Unpleasant experience. Went there to plan catering for an event and the owner was completely rude. Was insistent on doing things his way, would rudely insult any other ideas and discount them. For example, my 83 year old grandma asked to have a cabernet at the event and he laughed at her and said "nobody drinks cabernet in the summer". This is pretty much how any of our suggestions were taken. Would definitely not recommend as a caterer unless you want no say in your event. My first review on Yelp, or anywhere really. I just had to say something about the horrible service we received here. I wish I could say we had bad service; but really, we barely got ANY service. A friend and I were meeting four other people here for birthday drinks. We decided to go early with just the two of us for dinner. Our server greeted us fast enough, took our drink and food order. That was the last we saw of her; (I believe her name was Chelsea,) other employees dropped off our food, and we had to approach the bar to get another drink. That was fine, it was busy and we understand. But when we wanted to cash out, we couldn't get our server's attention, even though she was working behind the bar and we were making eye contact with her. At this point, the rest of our group had arrived and was seated on the patio. We eventually moved out to join our friends, knowing our server would come find us when she felt it was time we paid. Finding our friends on the patio, they said they had ordered one round of drinks, and were ready to order food. 20 minutes later, the server had not returned. We saw her at other tables dropping off drinks and taking orders, it was our same server from inside. We evenually called out to her as she was passing our table to go back inside, and she told us, "One minute". Another 15 or 20 minutes had passed before we saw her back on the patio going to other tables without acknowledging us. One of my friends went inside to tell another employee that we wanted to speak to a manager. It was another ten minutes before our server came to our table, at which point we said we just wanted to leave and cash out. She returned later with our bill, with no apology and without even making eye contact. The manager never came to talk to us. We are all servers, and have been for several years. We understand when a place is swamped, but no apology, acknowledgment? I go to all places from Bistros to Applebees, and I've never had an experience this bad. I'm not sure what we did to offend this woman; maybe we're just not Pronto's ideal clientele? Whatever it was, I'm never going back. read more

Really? This place has it all. A menu with something around 1000 items, a special menu, dessert, a store, a bar and...whatever else. There's the problem. It's almost like "we can't do one thing well so lets just bombard people with everything we can and hope for the best." I've been here a couple times since I live close and this place is the classic have to eat so I guess I'll go there since they pretty much have anything I may want. It's the internet jukebox of restaurants. The proverbial "I don't know what song to play since they have everything so I'll just play this." I've seen enough reviews about the service and they ring true. Service here is a lost cause. The moment you walk in the door it seems you might have to get on one knee and thank them for allowing you in the door. To say this place is pretentious is giving pretentious people a bad rap. I almost feel priveleged for going there and actually spending money. Again it is a place to just get food. The way you are treated one would think some crazy good food is expected. I missed that part. Somehow I just paid for a Reuben sandwich (ironically they call it the #1) with about 2 slices of meat and 15 pounds of sauerkraut and half a gallon of sauce. The bread was good. I found out they don't bake their own bread which is one of their better ideas. I guess the sauerkraut is piled on to create some large sandwich. Right up there with the pile of lettuce in chinese take out. I will say that I could chew the sauerkraut. This is good because I could have taken off my shoe and bit through that before I could the obvious nuked corned beef they claim to be famous. Biting into a sandwich and pulling out the whole 2 slices of meat you put on there and having to chew on it for 15 minutes does not constitute a good meal. I suppose if you sit there and break your jaw chewing long enough they may just offer you a dessert. I'll admit, I was taken. The display is quite impressive. (Another service sidenote. Clueless. I was told to go look at dessert and "just pick something out." ) A dessert lovers dream come true. Visually. Now, I hate to hate but...giving me a wedge of cake the size of my head is a nice gesture. However, a larger pile of freon from seemingly 8 days ago tastes like more freon. I would think one that seems to take dessert seriously would offer up something from this century. I should have asked which one was made in November because last July isn't tasting so fresh. Not crazy about the food. Pronto was once one of downtown Royal Oak's consistently good restaurants, a lively place that offered fresh, innovative dishes and friendly service. So, it was terribly disappointing when we returned this week to find a dining room with zero ambiance, a long wait for our sandwiches (25 minutes), setups that were poorly set up - the host handled each and every utensil (yuck) as she laid them down on the table. Worst, we got up to buy desserts (because we were told they were being put away for the night) and found that our table had been cleared! We were standing within eyeshot! Service was not quite substandard, but close to it. Will not return. read more

Ok I have been to Pronto over 100 times but yet given only a 3 star. Why? So what keeps me going back? The menu is huge. They have all sorts of sandwiches, salads, soups etc. They have quite a few vegetarian options which is a bonus for me. They also have an extensive dessert selection that are all made off site but by Pronto. Another plus is the waiter/waitress are USUALLY very friendly. I had one complete asshole there to the point the manager came out and apologized. Another bonus is the hours and they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, they do have a bar on one side of the building that is very gay friendly with pool tables. The cons? The kitchen is slow. You can sometimes wait 30-35 minutes for your food. You can tell the wait staff sometimes get frustrated by this. It is good for kids as it can be loud so if your kid is crying (like mine) sometimes it just blends in with the rest of the noise.... read more

I've been to this place 3 times since moving to the area. Every time, I've had good food and excellent service. All wait staff was super efficient and friendly, and the food was good. Love the variety on the menu. I also brought two toddlers for two of the three visits, and even they were treated well. Will definitely be back (for the pork tacos!). read more

I had a wonderful experience with a peanut butter brownie at Pronto recently and HAD to update! Apparently, the trick is to get your brownie on Saturdays when they are FRESH :) :) They are just how I remember them from long ago that way. Yay! read more
