There's an extensive Polish-only menu of soups, pickled salads, and other traditional dishes, all served by a brigade of lunch ladies who must have been working here for decades. The soup selection included a Ukrainian borscht made of beets, potatoes, beans, and other vegetables; and the spicy chickpea soup was a savory, herbaceous mixture of potatoes, carrots, chickpeas, tomatoes, and other vegetables. The salad selection included pickled red cabbage, beets, carrots, and "asparagus beans" seasoned with chewy buttered breadcrumbs. Finally, we had the cabbage rolls stuffed with rice and served with a hearty mushroom sauce. The dishes here were all simple (and unbelievably cheap) but tasty, and the rustic eatery was super busy with locals lining up at the register to order and with trays to collect the dishes.
