We started looking around on our own, but as prospective first-time homeowners, we were wary of potential missteps. Mike hosted an open house at one of the first properties we checked out, and although the house itself didn't turn out to be a perfect fit, Mike was. His easy, friendly manner was immediately disarming, and he quickly put to rest any fears we had that we would find our ideal house. Because short sales were so prevalent at the time, they were nearly unavoidable, but thanks to Mike's clear and honest assessments of certain properties' short sale situations vs. those of other properties, we were able to successfully bid on the house we fell in love with and save a bundle in the process. Of course, that's not to say the short sale process was, well, short. But that's par for the course, and Mike was endlessly supportive throughout. When I would get nervous that we hadn't heard a peep from the buyer's lender in a few days, I would call Mike and find out that he was already on it. When the SOLD! sign suddenly disappeared from the For Sale sign in front of our future house and I freaked out, he looked into it without making me feel like I was being totally irrational (I was). He checked in with us regularly, keeping us apprised of any recent developments, and communicating with the buyer's agent on a near-daily basis. Keep in mind, this sale took about 100 days to close, thanks to the buyer's lender (no love for BoA here), but Mike was with us the entire time.
